We belong to Yorkshire Terrier National Rescue and have helped by picking up dogs and transporting them. The people we have worked with are wonderful and do fantastic things for these little ones. One of our's is a rescue that we got when he was 2 1/2. He is now 4 and we have never been sorry. All he needed was lots of love and stability. Our best wishes to you and your babies! |
Congrats on your new baby boy!!! I wish more of us here on Yorkietalk would adopt!! So many babies need good homes. Good for you!! (and your new boy) |

Updatae We have Mavrick at home!! We got him at 10:00 Monday night. He traveled about 5 hours to us. I think he is adjusting OK. He is not eating much and he and my little Rigger have not played yet. They have had two little snapping episodes over our attention. He has piddled in the house twice but I expected that due to just being in a new place. He is very loving and quiet. I think it is just going to take a little time for him to get 100% at ease. I keep reminding myself that he has not even been with us for 48 hours yet! We are thrilled with him. He is a large Yorkie. Rigger weighs about 11 pounds and Mavrick 13. Rigger is a porky yorkie and Maverick is taller and slim. Rigger is blonde and Mavrick is silver, black and tan. Rigger has big ears that stand straight up. Mavrick has little ears that do not stand up. I want them to be best friends!! How long does it usually take? Thanks everyone for your kind words and encouragement when we were going through the waiting period!! |
I have a 1 yr old boy rescue for about a month now...We have 2 girls...We love him,..My 6yr old yorkie girl tolerates him and sometimes plays with him, but my 2 1/2 yr yorkie girl runs and runs around the house with him....It did take a couple of days to trust us and know we aren't leaving him and now he's one of the pack...Funny though, he wont kiss you on the face, only sniff your face, as for the others, our faces are like lollpops in the morning...I want to reach out to him so much because I know he was neglected in his very early months and in time maybe I'll get that smelly, wet lick on the face...;) |

Hang in there! The first couple days/weeks can be tough but they will adjust eventually. Having two is wonderful and more props to you for rescuing. Congratulations and enjoy your new baby! |
Yay! I was looking through the posts because I was interested to hear what the public thought of UYR. I've been a foster mom with United Yorkie Rescue for over a year and I LOVE IT! I have never done anything so gratifying ever! It's easy to find time. What's another mouth to feed? :) Sometimes they stay a few days, sometimes a few weeks, sometimes a few months. It's hard to give them up, but having that special bond with a dog is a wonderful feeling. :) I started reading your post and when you said you were considering adoption, I was so excited for you.... Then I found out it was through us! I remember Mavrick from our website for many months but I never knew who adopted him (I'm in Florida but we share a state director, Dianne, who is also the VP of United Yorkie Rescue). I was really hoping while reading this that you got him. Then I finally got to the end! YAY!!!!! I hope all is well and that you love your new addition. Adopted dogs do sometimes come with "baggage" and sometimes not. I think the love and gratitude you get from them is priceless. They KNOW they've been saved. I think it is such a special and wonderful thing you did. Remember, we cannot rescue dogs unless we have loving homes for them to go to. Thank you for taking Mavrick and giving him a loving home. Have someone take a picture of Mavrick, Rigger, and the whole family for our Happy Tails page!! :) Take care and yorkie kisses to you all! Jenn (foster mom for UYR in Miami, FL) |
