| Coat confused...help I have a yorkie and so does a friend of mine. The two pups were together today for the first time. They are two weeks apart and both girls. My pup has "not so soft" and shorter hair (except the new hair coming in at the roots is much softer) at this point and their's is really thick and much longer. The two side by side look totally different other than coloring. My pups hair is tight to the body and not plentiful yet...and theirs is stuck out and puffy and tons of it. Does that make sense even when they are almost the same age (both between 2-4 months old) Can yorkie pups coats really vary so drastically? |

| One of my girls has silky hair that lies close to her body. Another girl, Cocoa, and also Chipper have fluffy wavy hair that feels coarser. There is a lot of variation in colors, too, from the same litter. Recently there was a post where the breeder even had a two blonde Yorkies. I've also read of a white Yorkie showing up in a litter. Hope that helps a little. I don't claim to be too knowledgeable.

If my pup has what is called a wiry coat....what would that look and feel like at 4 months old? I think that is what she has just cause the hair that is coming in at the roots is MUCH softer than her "old" hair....and she doesn't have a lot of hair neither...about an inch or so long and flat to the body.... is that wire coat? | |

| Their coats can vary a lot! I have two males, and they are related (Jake is Jackson's uncle), and their coats are entirely different. Not only is Jackson much darker, but he has a cottony coat, and Jake has a silky coat. I love the differences! In fact, I was looking for a darker pup when I got Jackson, just because I wanted the two different looks. My boys are so different, both in looks and personality. Your pup is still young, so there are still lots of changes to go through! Jake started out black and tan. He's almost 2 years old, and his coat is silver and gold. Jackson is still very dark....some pups stay darker, some don't. I have a feeling he will stay black. Jake started to turn silver right around a year. The coat changes are fun to watch!
