Anyone else have to watch their baby eat? Since Buddy was a puppy I would stick my hand in his bowl and mix up his food when he was 1/2 way finished to get him use to having someone touch his food and keep him from being food aggressive. (He did become food aggressive anyhow for awhile but we worked it out.) Anyhow, today at 4yrs old he will only eat with me standing next to him. If I leave the kitchen so does he. So I stand there and praise him for eating then, on his own, leaving some food in his bowl, jump up on me to REQUEST I mix it up so he can finish it! Twice a day this happens. Anyone else create this problem? I think it's cute but when I'm not around and he's at my daughter's he won't eat. |
I wrote about this in my rituals thread a while back. Mika got to where she wanted her mommie to stir her food mid-meal or she wouldn't eat the rest of it. LOL these yorkies.....least it gives us something to do eh. |
Speaking of rituals !! I have a larger dog (cocker spanial) that is good at pushing the small dogs out of the way and inhaling there supper. So at night I give Cooper and Lucy small bowls with chicken veggies , sweet potatos ,rice. Any combination really. Anyway I started putting there little bowls on my bed which is right off the kitchen , when i was busy and couldnt sit with them to make sure they got there share. Well after a couple times the little ones started jumping on the bed when they saw me get the 2 small bowls down. They lay side by side and wait patiently while I fix it. But it has reached the point that they dont eat anywhere else but on my bed!!! Just a little spoiled... |
Tucker will only eat if I'm in the kitchen, too! This is only since he became an "only child". He used to eat out of Rusty's bowl with him. And he and Maddie used to scarf down their canned food in three gulps. But now, he will only eat if I'm standing there and he eats it one piece at a time. Takes a piece, sets it on the rug. Picks it up and eats it. I free feed him, so if I can't stay in the kitchen I just leave. He'll leave with me but then every time I go out there so does he. |

My middle boy, Kalani, won't eat unless I'm standing nearby. When I went to Hawaii last year the sitter had a heck of a time trying to get him to eat anything:( Hoku & Pi'i, on the other hand, will inhale anything not nailed down - LOL! |
I thought I was the only one with this problem! If I feed Hot Rod and go out, he will not touch his food! I have to be in the kitchen somewhere looking at him every so often. Hubby used to get frustrated with me because I used to sit in his pen with him and he would climb all over me while I held his food bowl for him. I knew then that I was over spoiling him but I said that I would do what it took to make sure he ate. I just figured he would outgrow it. |
They love their rituals! And you think they're not paying attention. Little Juju has decided that she will only eat in her bed! When I say, "Are you hungry, girls?" She runs to her bed. Little Miss Muffet...lol. |

Look at that face on Hot Rod, how could anyone resist being at his beck and call? |

lexi is the same way, i have to be in the kitchen when she eats. if i walk away, she follows me... when mom watches her and i not home, she actually sits on the floor with lexi and spoon feeds her... shes nuts |
Guess im nuts to . Once in a while Cooper will just sit there and look at his bowl, but if I pick up a fork and offer him a bite he will eat everything... |
Chloe is the opposite. She doesn't like anyone watching her while she eats. For a while, until she would get over her problem, we had to feed her in her crate. She no longer has to do that. |
We also have goofy ways around here. Snoot has to eat in the bathroom, LOL! I have to put him in there and shut the door because the girls won't allow him to eat. Trixie won't eat unless I'm in the room with her and I have to sit smack beside Pia. She takes a bite and and looks up constantly to make sure I haven't left. Paisley on the other hand is a little piggie and would eat upside down and could care less who's there or not there. As long as she can consume as much as possible, she's happy. :D |
Diesel is the same way! There have been times when I take his bowl into the bedroom with me if I plan on cleaning up in there. That way he can see me and eat. It really is sad. He is so bad that one year I took my daughter to the beach for a cheerleading competition. He refused to eat while I was gone. My husband tried to give him canned food, babyfood and even reg chicken. He refused to eat any of it. I left on Friday and came back on Sunday. He could not get enough to eat when I got home. He greeted me at the door, jumped up and down screaming and crying. After I picked him up and loved on him a bit he got down and made a B line for his food! |
