I don't know what to do anymore!!! Maximus has found a way to get to his "wound" even with the damn ecollar.... it is now at the point that I have underwear on him and an ecollar and I am afraid he is going to get infected....any SUGGESTIONS???? |
Get a larged e-collar. I had to do the same thing w/ my Codie. Or try puppy diapers. |
If you could only see my poor baby...I caught him doing it last night at like 9:30...so we got a pair of my boy short underwear I cut the sides, and sewed them to fit his measurements and now he is wearing them also...I will have to post a pic because on the front of them it says playboy bunny or something like that and my bf was making fun of him all morning...lol, BUT my bf is going to buy diapers this morning...I am glad someone else did this also..my vet seemed to think it was IMPOSSIBLE!! |
Tell your vet that I said NOTHING is impossible until you're dead ... and even then I'm sure God negotiates. :D Let me know how Maximus does w/ the doggie diapers. Poor little guy. |
Someone just mentioned a onsie might help him from getting to it. Onsies are probably better for girls but you might want to try it. Good Luck! |
Thanks...he ate threw the side of the onsie the night after surgery...he is determined to give me a heart attack!!! |
He must be itchin' to get down there! Literally. Poor little guy. I don't know what to tell you :(. |

I wish I had some advice, but wanted to wish him a speedy recovery. PS I really want to see the pics of him in his undies... |
This may not be what you would expect, but first see what he is doing to the area when he licks it. If he is only licking it, it will probably help heal it faster. Watch him for a minute or so and see if it is damaging the area. If he is biting or picking at it, then keep trying to cover it. My dog had a small wound on his leg once (the white shepard). Anyway, we did all kinds of things to try and keep him from licking it....not only was it frustrating, we did more damage. Then we were like what the heck, and let him lick it. It healed right up in no time! Like I said, see what he does and if it isn't harmful, ask the vet if it is ok to let him do that. |
Thanks...he actually made himself bleed a little yesterday which is why I was feeaking out..and taought myself to sew...I am just unsure of how long before he should be healed enough not to bother him...because the ecollar is making him itchy around his neck also..I think..he keeps putting his head down and pawing at it, so I take it off and hold him so I know he can't cause any disturbances DOWN there but the minute I put him down without it..he is munching AND LICKING :( |
I've heard good things about this collar.. It's called the Bite Not Collar. You may see if a vet in your area carries them becaues you might not get it in time if you have to order it online. Here's the link: http://www.bitenot.com/ |
Thank you I will go see if anyone near me carries it because I am afraid of infection!! |
Poor you, you must be so worried. Poor little maximus must be so itchy down there. How does the little smarty pants get to his wounds with an ecolar??? I am just imagining in my head that he's double jointed..haha..I'm sorry you're frustrated. I don't think I would have any more suggestions, all of the ones I would think of have been mentioned. I hope his itching stops so he can let it heal. I would freak out if I saw blood, so you're a trooper. |
This whole event has not been good for you! With the vet not answering the phone, giving you the wrong meds, and now this. It will get better though, I promise. :) How long is Maximus suppose to keep the collar on? I have always heard that if a dog licks an injury it will heal faster, even if it is an injury on us. I imagine he just wants to lick it to help it heal, especially if he is itching. Poor baby . When I had my dalmation neutered, he never did have to where a collar and I let him take care of it. Of coarse, I kept a close eye on it. |
I put a band-aid over Sully's stitches!!!! And it worked! |

Our little Hercules (isnt that an oxy-moron?) recently started itching his neck, and eventually he scratched it to the point of bleeding, but he would keep making it worse over night. We woke up one morning to him crying and blood all over him. Now dont give him anything without consulting your vet first, but we just basically drugged him up. An eight of a tablet of childrens benedryl works wonders while we were away at work or sleeping. I actually had to sleep on the couch with him for the first two nights just to make sure he wouldnt keep scratching it more. But needless to say its just a little bald spot of skin now. It took alot of patience and alot of lost sleep and two emergency vet visits but anything for my lil man. You could always get one of those lampshade looking collars that keep him from reaching any part of his body with his mouth, could always try that. Worst case scenerio though just take a few days off work if you can and stay with him and watch him like a hawk for a couple days and he should heal up fine. You just cant stop until hes healed, otherwise he will get at it and make it worse thus wasting everything you did up to that point. Well we hope for a quick recovery for Max!! |
1 Attachment(s) I've been there!! Max was neutered last month and he did everything he could to get to those stitches. He even pulled one out  The onsie didnt work, he ate that off. Sooooo I used Missy's panties from when she was in heat. They were about $20 at PetSmart but worked wonders! They are like a diaper and they are made of jean material with a pad inside, they secure closed with velcro. After Max bit of that one stich and licked it so much it looked pretty bad. I was upset like you are, thankfully the undies worked! He kept them on for about 3-4 weeks. I would check his stitches daily and remove the undies to wash every so many days but other than that they stayed on all day and night. I'll try to post a pic of Missy when she was wearing them. |
Thanks..that's what Maximus looks with my panties on...lol, my bf actually went to buy some diapers for him today to try and see but maybe I will pick up a pair of undies (gotten manly it up a little)..lol, they are sooooo determined....so little and yet they are sooo clever!!! |
1 Attachment(s) Good luck! Let us know how the diapers work, but if he eats through them try the undies ;) |
I am so lucky that when Bruce was nuetered our vet was great and he was great. He stayed overnight but of course I visited and they gave me updates throughout the day/night whenever I wanted them too. The next day he seemed perfectly fine when he was picked up in the morning, was energetic and playful and did not try to lick his wounds at all, without a collar, he just wore panties. But...What my vet told me to do if he licked the wound was if he did try to lick it I could put bitter apple AROUND the area to discourage him, not on it but AROUND it. She also said warm compresses may relieve discomfort including itching. The bleeding you saw could also be intra-scrotal bleeding and not from chewing. My aftercare info. says something like 10% of male dogs nuetered older than 4 months have it and that it is not a serious danger provided it resolves itself in 3-7 days. Good luck! I feel so bad for little Maximus ! |
You have ONE Determined little boy don't you ? I bet he looks to cute in the panties that you almost bust out laughing everytime you look at him...I hope you find something that works - maybe the itching will be gone by tonight ? I wish I could help but all I want to see is pics of him in his new drawers - aren't I terrible ? Be a good boy Maximus...Those itchies will be gone soon and you'll feel back to normal in no time ! Chanel & Cheri send you LOTS of smoochies ! |
