I don't think anyone on this thread thinks that YTers are idiots. Some people really do not understand the retail market and I was just stating an example. If you took it as an insult well it wasn't meant as one. I also studied finance and economics. I think "honest" sellers are not trying to pull a fast one. Items are posted here all the time and most people know how much they are sold for in a motar and brick store. I for one know I have not done any thing dishonest. I had one member ask me why was shipping half of what the item cost and I directed her to the USPS website and showed her I was charging her actually .60 less than USPS was charging me. I think this thread was started to promote controversy. You really shouldn't purchase from sellers you don't feel comfortable with period. I know I do this because I enjoy it. I am a certified shopaholic and enjoy buying things for my furkids. I am a business owner and do this on the side because of the enjoyment of finding different things things and offering them for sale. Believe me my website sales doesn't even cover my electric bill. I do this out of enjoyment and if I can make a small profit out of it better yet. I am just amazed where this thread has gone. |
it really irritates me when people way mark up things they get at Walmart and yes Ive seen people do it on here also. I can understand marking it up a little for the gas that it took to get it and shipping and handeling though |

I think that putting up shipping costs is a little more dishonest than jacking up the product cost, because making money off of the postal service and being disingenuous about shipping just seems wrong to me, but then again I have learned about what it should cost items and I stay away from people that charge too much. For instance, I saw a person selling a Nintendo DS game with 12 dollars shipping!! Good lord!! No wonder nobody had bid on it. |
Yes I have noticed this as well. I personally have not seen it being done here (I must of just missed it) but I have seen people selling things on eBay that came from Wal-Mart for MUCH more than their worth. There is one seller in particular who does this non stop. This is actually her BUSINESS and she has an eBay store that is FULL of regularly low-priced (only she sells the items at HIGH PRICES) doggie stuff from Wal-Mart, Target, Claires, Ross, Tuesday Morning, and even Petsmart and Petco and I'm sure other places as well. She will sell a $6.97 Wal-Mart shirt for $25 bucks. A $7.97 Wal-Mart dress, sometimes for $30 bucks. Sick, sick, sick!!! :thumbdown |
I'm glad a lot of you guys are clearing up why people will mark up what they pay for an item at Walmart, it makes sense now that I think of the time, gas, shipping, etc. that they put into getting the item. One thing I have seen before though is selling used items (such as used dog shirts) at a price higher than the retail price! That is one thing I definitly don't agree with. You wouldn't buy something at a garage sale that has been used if it was more then you could get it brand new!!! I've only seen it like once or twice, can't remember exactly when and what it was, has anyone else noticed this? |
Maybe not at a garage sale, but I have seen it happen time and time again at auctions. When I go to an auction, it is usually for a specific item and I do my research before hand. I refuse to pay a new price for used items, but many people will bid them WAY over new prices. Of course I am not talking antiques, just day to day things (two kids in college needed apartment furniture and appliances) |
I see them too Quote:
I often wonder why people would buy this kind of pupmed up priced stuff on eBay, but they must not know better. There is an old saying "Let the buyer beware" |

i totally see where the original poster is coming from and i used to sell stuff on ebay. i sold things that were hard to find and in high demand. It took me a lot of time to find these items, but i never sold them for more than they were at "full retail price." I felt it was up to me to find the item for less and then make my profit that way. What upsets me about the walmart shenanigans is that those dresses were NEVER SOLD AT WALMART for 25 dollars! if they had been and then they found them for 6 bucks on sale months later, and then charge "retail price" on ebay i see no problem there. but those 6 dollar walmart dog clothes are so not worth 25 dollars under any circumstance. i mean .. come on.. walmart is such a huge business... and them selling these dresses etc for 6 dollars..and you know how much profit they want to make.. i mean theses dresses probably took sooo little to make. they are not high quality items at all. seriously. :thumbdown |
You know, there are alot of people out there who do that. However, there are those of us who sell on E-Bay to make ends meet. I know that what I sell, I have a "great" price. When people buy from me I feel good that I have saved someone money. Don't buy from people with "high shipping costs". You can ship USPS, flat rate, $4.60 anywhere in the US. I just bought an item that weighs 1 OZ. I got charged 8.95 shipping...rip off. If you need socks visit me, Bestbuy424! You have to be very careful when you are buying things...and report anyone who trys to rip you off! |
What is YTers's? Is it a website? |
