| ![]() I posted yesterday about the problem I've been having with Joey chasing our feet / ankles. I am so paranoid he's going to get stepped on again! So last night I filled a coke can with pennies and started shaking it at him really loud when he started to chase my feet - well, now I seem to have made the problem worse. Now he barks incessantly at me when I try to stop his bad behavior (including barking). He was sooo bad this morning - I kept putting him in time out (another suggestion here) to show him he is a bad boy. Well, he just barked and barked. I took out the bitter apple again to re-try it, and all he does is back up and turn a few times and then he keeps barking!! I have also tried spraying water at him - he loves it! I know he is probably lonely while I am at work during the day, but we walk him when we get home every night and play with him A LOT. He sleeps in our bedroom too. I leave Animal Planet on for him during the day to break up the silence. What else can I do ![]() |

| ![]() Get him a playmate??? Just a suggestion. I know Recon was really lonely when he was an only dog. How about rescuing a little playmate for him even if it is just a cat?? |

| ![]() Have you tried using a spray bottle. My dogs are barkers too and the spray bottle gets their attention.

| ![]() When he is barking DON'T let him out....our trainer said that (puppy kindergarten), that when the barrking gets worse it is because they realize it's not working and panic to get louder and see if you break and let them out..or whatever!! Keep them in there, say quiet or no bark and wait ...when he stops for 5-10 sec say GOOD BOY!! and reward ./...try this repeatedly, and good luck. But never let them out when they are barking or doing bad because they learn..hey I barked and I got out!!!

| ![]() Maybe you should seek the advice of a professional trained. But please be sure to explain that under NO circumstances will you allow your dog to be hit or FORCEFULLY trained. Some trainers have harsh methods which I do not agree with. My Maltese suffered severely from seperation anxiety and I got a second dog. They're both SO happy and the problem went away so quickly! Just a suggestion. ![]()

| ![]() it's hard to ignore him in the pen because we are in an apt building....I am so scared that our neighbors are going to start complaining. He really does go on and on....but, I guess I will have to try it. I wish we could get him a playmate, but we've only had him for a little over a month and there is no way my fiance is going to agree to another one until we train Joey ![]() Regarding trainers - I do think he does need obedience classes. I have put a lot of inquiries into trainers and have been appalled at the prices they charge! I am in NYC, and these people charge $150/hour!! There is a Petco near me, but they are smack in the middle of their puppy classes (can't join late), and the next one doesn't start until September, at which time Joey will be too old to join. I am hoping to find a class/trainer that works with our $ situation and schedule soon ![]() |

| ![]() On another thread someone suggested putting a towel or sheet over the crate and it helps calm the pup down. Not so much barking. I'd give it a try. |
