Katrina - Florida humane society I received a call thursday inquiring about a male puppy. I wasnt home at the time so I returned the call the next day... A family from Indiana rescued two yorkie females from the Katrina aftermath...they adopted them without papers and for the purpose of breeding..theyre now registered CKC so they can have puppies that are registerable...now looking for a tiny male to breed them to!! I would have thought these type of rescue placements would have more restrictions as well I would have thought they would have at spayed them before proper placement into a forever lap.:thumbdown |
Alot of cute fluffy purebreds were "rescued" right out of the shelters where they were being held for the rightful owners...there were over 100 Yorkies rescued but missing from the shelters and the owners are still looking for their babies:( |
That's awful! |
yep didnt make me happy!!:thumbdown |
That's to bad! I would think they would have been fixed before adopting them out. so sad! |
That is so horrible for those little dogs. They go from a nice home, through a disaster, loose their family and then fall into the hands of "greeders". This is so sad and un-acceptable!! I thought these placement people were better than that. |
UGG! I can see the adds now: Rare Katrina Yorkie babies for sale! Get a real live baby from the Yorkies that survived Katrina!! This makes me so angry!! |
 That's terrible! What kind of shelter or rescue would adopt out an animal that was "intact"?!? Didn't they even try to find the owners? That is just so sad. |
This saddens me to no end... |
Being a Katrina survivor myself I'm sad for those little ones. :( |
Hi Lilmomma, Hope you are getting along well now...I worked NOLA, Katrina Yorkies and we found several. Many lawsuits still going on..... many folks in NOLA had intact animals and those surely disappeared. I remember one lady who bred. Both her breeding parents were stolen although they had collars with her name and phone #, and their litter of 3puppies, 6 weeks old disappeared from Lamar Dixon, the LA state shelter. Her yorkies were logged in, then disappeared. All that was left is the paperwork. Things like that happened alot. |
I cant believe this, poor pups. I tried to adopt I thought it was hard, they would not let me have a yorkie because some day I may have kids :(and wanted to take them for walk vs a fenced in yard, but yet people like this can have them. |
I still can't believe anyone would have left their precious family member(s) behind like that! I mean I live in Florida and we're likely to have to evacuate for a hurricane in the future and my car will be loaded with my two yorkies, my bird, my hamster and my three reptiles (plus their supplies) and if I could figure out a way to get my 55 gal aquarium in the car my fish would be coming too!! I figure clothes I can replace at the next stop and all my pictures will be on disks so what else do I need to take. |

in my honest opinion -- that has got to be a tough call to make, and the people who choose to stay and weather that storm with their babies are angels. |
