Boy vs Girl Dog I was just wondering if there was any major/noticeable difference between a boy dog & a girl dog, personality wise?? Also, which one is more of a cuddler? & which one is more energetic?? Thanks for any info. |
The cuddler and energy thing is more about the individual dog. I have had both and both are great in those areas. It just all comes down to the dogs temperment. |
I agree each dog is individual. I have had both and some were cuddlier than others. |
IMO, I have always found the boys to be more of the cuddler's and momma's boys. I find the girls to be a bit more independent, although they still love to be w/you, but sometimes like to just be by themselves and can be a bit moody................I guess maybe just like us!!!! I have one of each!!!!:aimeeyork:aimeeyork |
I have a mama's boy here, may be he is my first dog, and he was (is) always with me all the time. My girl is more independent, she is always out in the living room playing with toys while my boy always sticks under my feet while I am in the kitchen. |
I agree with the posts above, it really depends on the individual personality. I have both male and female cuddlers. I also have a couple real energizer bunnies and a couple not so energizy bunnies, LOl. |
I've never had anything other than a female - and they've always been the most cuddly, sweet and adorable little pups on planet Earth~~ |
Boys Boys Boys! I'm all about boys! :grin2: |
Boy's vs girl's I have both. I have always thought boy's are the cutlers. Girl are like us woman they want the loving on there terms. Boy's want the loving all the time. But each dogs is deferent. I love my boys. And i love my girl's but i think the girls are even more stubborn to. JMO:):) |
I think each individual dog is different. I have two boys who are both big-time mama's boys. One is very sweet and wants to cuddle all the time. The other will cuddle at HIS convenience lol. But, both have very sweet dispositions. I got them from the same breeder, but they have different parents. |
Thanks for the reply everyone :) |

Both of mine are boys! They are definitely mama's boy! They always want my 100% attention and loves to cuddle! |

So now I'm wondering if I should get the girl yorkie, or the boy maltese. I've read about both & they are both so different. The maltese seems to fit me more though. But I heard theyre more of barkers than yorkies, which is bad since I live in an apartment. & I've heard their barks, much more irritating. |

Oh gosh! Tough decision! I would prefer a yorkie over a maltese, but I would prefer a boy over a girl! I have 2 boys and my mom has 2 girls... her girls are a lot more independant and stubborn where my boys are way more laid back and cuddly! Her girls won't lay with you for more than 2 mins, whereas my boys will get comfy and not move for hours if you stay there! :) Im sure it is all about the individual dog's personality but I just love the boys! |
I would suggest if it were possible to spend time with the dogs, one-on-one (and in your home is possible) and see which one you would prefer with you since you have a choice. *I have a boy yorkie and I love him!!! He is a cuddle bug! |
I have a girl yorkie... Gracie and she likes to be left alone when she is sleeping during the day... but at night.... she LOVES to cuddle with the mama! :D I LOVE IT!!! I LOVE yorkies... but if you are wanting the boy maltese then go for it... these little babies are so cute and sooooo much fun! :) good luck with what ever you decide! ;) |
That is a tough one! I have a boy yorkie. I love him to pieces! He is very cuddly and loves people, but he is also very sensitive and has to have very gentle handlers or his spirit would be completely broken. I had a boy silky about 10 years ago. He was also a cuddler and very outgoing, but not at all sensitive. Nothing scared or deterred him! I've never owned a female, but have loved my boys. That being said, I truly think that is all depends on the individual dog's personality. The best thing you can do is to spend as much time as you can with a dog to see if your personalities coincide with one another. Good Luck in your decision! |
I have a boy and a girl and the girl is more the cuddler. The boy is smarter and easier to train though |
I think it's all individual personality (cuddling, etc.), and not whether you get a boy or a girl. I asked the breeder what the differences were, and she said that the only difference was that boys will lift up their legs to pee and girls will squat. I always wanted a girl, but I ended up getting a boy and couldn't love him more. I'm sure that you will fall in love whether you get a boy or a girl! |
I'll be another to echo its all with the individual dogs. my female (though not a yorkie) is a total mamas girl. She doesn't go more than 10 ft from me when she's out loose in the house. She's a total cuddler- If we are in the bed and I move to where I'm not touching her, she will move back to where out bodys are touching. Slade is independent. He doesn't care WHO he's with. Heck, i left him for a whole week with my best friend and he didn't want to come home. He's not very affectionate and not a cuddler, but thats just his personality. |

You're so lucky about Slade! I wish that Linus wouldn't lift his leg up because is favorite thing to do is to pee on my door! |
I got Slade neutered early (4mnths). He is also in a house full of women so he never had any role models to teach him how to lift it. |
imo and experiene ... boys are a lot more calmer and girls are more hyper and can get quite moody when its about that time of the season....hehe..but every dog have their own personality... |

Before i got Mr. Snickers.. (i call him MR at the moment cause he thinks he is a big noy lol he is only 5 months .. hah lol)i also had 2 Scottish terriers already a boy and girl..The Boy Zorro is soooo cute he ALWAYS want to to cuddle.. all day if he can.. And Zazou the female dog is more independent, she only comes for a few min if she comes and otherwise she will lay in her bed or somewhere where she has the space.. When i was looking for wa yorkie i wanted a girl,. but alsop people told me to get a boy because they are more mommy's boys... When my eye fell on Mr. Snickers i got him.. but i must tell you , he doesnt want to cuddle all the time. and he prefers to lay on his own.. or next to you... Only when we are out and he is with me,. he will stay and sleep and cuddle on my lap all day.. but when we are at home.. i can only really cuddle with him when i pick him up when he is sleepy.. so he dont noticed, but after a half minute he jumps up and walks away and go lay next to me or futher on the couch HAHAHA Is that maybe because he is 5 months old ..?? you think he will be more cuddling with me when he is getting older??? |
I've always had girls. I had a little maltese who was a very cuddly little girl & who never left my side - she passed away a few years ago. I currently have another maltese who is a sweet girl, but definitely likes her space. I now have a yorkie & well I'm in love with this little girl. She wants to be with you all of the time & is the most cuddly out of the 3 girls. I think it really depends on the individual dog & their personality. Both breeds are lovely companions. |
