Sonny and Cher - can you believe that? Oh boy, I'm going to really date myself too and give you guys a good laugh in the process. Who remembers Sonny and Cher when they WERE Sonny and Cher? Well I was in love with them as a teen .... crooning to each other like silly love birds -- You've got me Babe..... Skip forward grown woman, kids in school, husband works a lot - I wanted a small dog with long beautiful straight hair..... :) and I loved terriers. After doing a lot of research on Yorkies, I was sold..... and will be forever more |
wow! Diggy! She is gorgeous!! :) I wanted a female Shih Tzu sooo bad! I read they had 'hair' and my old boss had one and she was soooo cute and playful! So I talked about them FOREVER and my mom and her hubby bought one. She is a little BEATCH!!! HAHA so I decided I didnt want a shih tzu anymore cuz my mom has one and I didn't want a FEMALE at all! HAHA SO I found a couple more breeds that had hair and I thought the Yorkies were the CUTEST breed EVER.. those soulful eyes and up ears. The long shiny coats... wow! Little did i know their coats were soo much work that I keep them in a SHORT puppy cut their whole lives so far! HAHA I am so glad I stumbled upon this breed! :) |
Fantastic Photography, Beautiful Bella! Paula - your Bella lives up to her name - Beautiful! I just can't imagine her ever being anything but a beauty. Those two pictures are absolutely beautiful - i love the play with the light and shadows. |
I have always loved yorkies and wanted one most of my life. After my kids all grew up and moved out, I decided I was getting my little yorkie. My husband wanted a big dog. We got Jake instead, and now we have two. My husband, who never liked smaller dogs, is now just as in love with the boys as I am!:) Now I'd like to eventually get a girl. Bella is beautiful! |
Wow so many different stories of how people end up with Yorkies and each is unique. For me, I grew up with Japanese Spitz and Shih Tzus. Knew nothing about Yorkies until 2 years ago. I didn't have friends when I first came, felt very lonely and hubby was very busy so he decided to get me a dog. He originally wanted a big dog but our small living space wouldn't allow one. It was either a Husky or a Yorkie for him because his friend had a Yorkie and it was full of spunk and my hubby loves that. I myself wanted a small white dog instead and was thinking of Maltese and Westies or Pekingese but Pekingese shed and my nose is sensitive so my option was Maltese or Westies. That was until we saw an ad and the breeder have both Maltese and Yorkie so we went to see and the rest is history :) |
I've always had German Shephards an though they will always remain my first love I wanted a dog that could travel with me as I travel often for business and pleasure. My girlfriends tried to talk me in to a Maltese but then I met my now breeder quite accidentally and after speaking with him several times he invited me over to visit and that was that - I fell in love with Lucy. She stole my heart and owns me and Thomas today :p |
Well, I have to be completely honest, I was never really interested in the breed. I have always had boxers and I couldn't even accept having another dog breed. My sister in law got one and I had the opportunity to get to know her little baby and I completely fell in love with the breed!!! I searched for a couple months trying to locate the perfect puppy yorkie for me. Needless to say I will go back...I LOVE HER!!!!! |
For me I have alway's thought that the breeds of the Maltese and Yorkies were very Pretty and I wanted one at a very young age and it stuck with me. Nothing else would do! My actual road that lead to me getting my Jeter started about 11 years ago. After I got married and had my boy's I still wanted so badly to get a Yorkie but we rented a Townhouse and at first they charged a fee of $300 for a pet. Right when I started looking at getting a boy, our townhouse switched rental companies and the new owners did not allow pets!I was so upset! i wanted to get our own House then and their! But that didn't happen for Quite a few years due to my husband changing jobs. My mother ended up getting 2 girl Yorkies by the time we found us our house! Thankfully my husband decided that Yorkies were OK after all to have and he came around to the idea of use having one ( he so wanted a Great Dane) So we had gotten our house at the end of August of 06 and we started some remodeling so getting my Yorkie was put on hold for a bit yet again. In May of 07 my husband tells me to go ahead and get in touch with the breeder so I could get my Jeter!! My breeder that I used was one that my mom got her Sindee Luo from and she was great working with her! We kept our fingers crossed for Maggie to have a boy for us and on October 1st I got a call that Maggie had her pups on September 30th and that there was 2 girls and 2 boy's!! Pictures were Emaild and I just knew what boy was my Jeter! I am so happy with my little guy! He was so worth the long wait! |
I worked at a Chiropractor's office and one of the patients would bring in his yorkie, Cassie and his other dog Molly... And I absolutely fell in love with Cassie and her human like personality! That is where my obsession started... and a year after that I got Lola :) |

my story is sad with a happy ending.... We had adopted a Dobberman from our local animal shelter, he was about 2 yrs old. We had him for about 7 months and he seemed like such a wonderful dog but very protective. Of course we had no idea about his back ground or up-bringing. But after 7 months I came home from work one morning and he was sleeping with my skin kids and I went and turned on the light and sat down on the bed to wake up the girls for school and bent over to give him a kiss and he knocked me down and tore my bottom lip in half and bit my arm. I had about 22 stitches in my mouth. So they took him away because I would not allow him back into my home. Well I started having very bad nightmares and anxiety attacks. So I tried to turn my nightmares around and concentrated on finding my lap dog, my baby! I searched and searched for her, I knew I wanted a female, and I was pretty sure I wanted a yorkie. I did lots of research on the breed and found someone in OH who had a female. My mom ended up buying her for me and hubby and I drove to get her and it was love at 1st site! I adored that girl from the moment I laid eyes on her! She was so precious, she was my baby. Her name was Kloey and she healed me and took my nightmares away. But sadly she was hit by a car a year after I had her. I was devastated, I had no idea why on earth god would take her from me, I only got to love her for a year and that was just to short. But now I know why he took her from me... Lillie, Baby, Rocky & Kibble |
I knew I wanted a puppy but didnt know what kind. I had seen people walking adult yorkies but I had never seen a yorkie pup before. I researched about them on the web and thought they were the cutest puppy I had ever seen. One of my favorite places on the web to go look at them was the Wizard of Claws site. I know bad site, but I didnt know anything about puppymills, brookers or bad breeders then. I bugged my Husband for two years before we got one. Then we got our second a month later. They are little hoodlums but theres not a day I regret getting them |
This is really good reading. My husband and I always had medium sized dogs and one day out the blue, I said to him someday I would like to have a Yorkie. His response was, "those little yappy dogs". Well Samantha was one of those things in life that are meant to be. She needed to be rehomed. So she came to us at a year old. My husband fell in love in no time and thought she needed a partner in crime so along came Odie and last but not least came Roo our ex-mill yorkie. They are our furkids, no doubt about it. It's funny to see "men" get mushy over them. My husband sure did a 90 degree turn.:animal-pa |
It was 1970 and I liked everything with long hair! Boys, myself. We always had Shelties, my sisters dogs, so I decided I wanted an Afghan Hound, My Mom of course, said no way, there were 4 of us kids in a very small house. My sister and I shared a bedroom that was 11 ft by 7, with 2 beds and 2 small dressers, a sheltie, Lance and a cockateil. So i decided a yorkie would fit the bill with the long hair. I took my last 150.00 out of my savings and frma an add in the paper my Dad took me out to see this yorkie, they showed us the aunt who of course was pretty. The puppy was on the bigger size but what did I know. Well we took him, I named him Karma (yes I was a hippie) and he grew to 16 lbs, had a short wavy coat and floppy ears and could be pretty mean. But I loved him all the same. He was really attached to my Dad so when I moved out I couldn't take him away from the home he always knew, with our sheltie and my Mom was home full time, So after I moved out I got Zorro, then Gracie after Zorro passed on at 13, and when Gracie passed on at 6 1/2 my husband and dtr wanted a pom so we got Maya, but I missed my Yorkies so now I have Cali, Pixie and Roxie. |
My grandma has emphazema and I was looking for a dog who did not shed and would not make her breathing any worse so I read and did research and came across a yorkie! Once you look at one how can you not want one lol! |
I grew up with German Shepherds. I would tag along with my mom to the shows and I always hung out at the Terrier rings. I wanted a small dog when I was little.....and my loves were Parson Russells (Jack Russells at the time) and Yorkies! I also had horses growing up so I was around Jack Russells a lot and ended up owning and showing those first, but I always still wanted a Yorkie. London was my first and she came to our family a few weeks ago and then went to heaven last week. I only had a short time with a Yorkie in my life but I will cherish every min of it! She was a very special little girl and heaven is very lucky to have her as an angel. Hopefully, when the time is right, I will find another Yorkie baby to join our family. |
After my Cocker Spaniel died in January of '06, I swore that I would never get another dog even though I still had 2. When I lost her, I just couldn't bare the thought of ever having to go through that again with another baby other than with the 2 I already had. It was just TOO painful for me  I was depressed for a LONG time. But, being the dog (and animal) lover that I am, one day I was looking online at puppies just oooh'ing and ahhh'ing at them. I was actually looking at Dachshund puppies as I already owned (and still do own) a Mini Doxie. However, my cousin had been telling me for the longest that I needed to get a Yorkie and to be honest at first I didn't even want one  And might I add in that the thought of NOT wanting a Yorkie now just totally boggles my mind  LOL. Anyway though, my cousin had one and although I loved her baby, I was still wanting another Mini Dachshund. Well...somehow (I can't remember how) I stumbled upon baby Yorkie pictures and that pretty much did me in  LOL. Once I saw them I was looking at pictures of them online NON STOP and was BEGGING my hubby for one. For about a month or more all I heard him say to me was, "NO NO NO! No more dogs!" as he too had such a hard time when we lost our Cocker Spaniel. But eventually, after BEGGING him all day and all night, he said YES :D So, the search was on and it did take a month or two...but I finally found my little Stedman and boy am I soooooo GLAD I did! :D My best friend was buying her first Yorkie baby at the same time I was just about, so it was pretty exciting :D She and I both now have 1 boy and 1 girl - PERFECTION!! :D |
When I was 16 my best friend's mom got yorkies and ever since then I always wanted one. LOVE AT FIRST SIGHT...:) |
My oldest son came home from NYC with a Yorkie he was babysitting for a friend. Hubby and I fell in love with the Yorkie and I was so sad when he went home. I don't know who I missed more, the Yorkie or my son... we had never had a small dog, or any animal in our house but we were so smitten with a dog that was really smart and would grow only to puppy size-less than 8 pounds! We bought Rusty and all books written about Yorkies ASAP! We are getting our 2nd, Cheyenne, tomorrow I hope. |
Some friends of my parents had Yorkies and they were so sweet. I've just always had a soft spot for them so when I decided I wanted a small dog that didn't shet I knew it had to be a Yorkie. Now I'm hooked!:D |
I am loving this thread.... When our Coca (siberian husky & old english sheepdog) passed away at 13 yrs. old. I wanted another dog. I wanted a little one. My mom was searching on the net through petfinder because she wanted a small dog also. She found one got accepted and then dad said NO. She emailed them back and said I was going to take her and they said ok. That was Celina and she was a Shih tzu. She ended up not being a good fit for our family as she HATED men so, we rehomed her. She constantly tried to bite my hubby and she did bite my brother in law. So, I have to have one that does not shed as my daughter has severe asthma and allergies. About this same time my girls decided they wanted to do 4H. My youngest Ru said she wanted to a pig and then the money she got from it she was going to buy a Yorkie puppy. My inlaws had someone living them that had one. She feel in love. We had a little poodle when I was growing up and loved the Maltese. I was going to get a malti-poo. I am bad about our girls come first. My hubby said we can only have one dog. I let Ru get Gracie as I was still undecided about what breed I really wanted. I love her to death and my hubby actually admits she is pretty cute and pretty good. He is not sure about putting clothes on her or her going everywhere but he is getting use to it. I keep telling him if we have a little dog I can mother then I will not ask him about having anymore children. ;) |
I am loving this thread too!!! :) Ours was a pretty easy decision I wanted a little companion dog with alot of heart. My daughter has allergies so our list of breeds was very limited, one look at that adoreable face and that was it. I am completely addicted! |
My girlfriend hounded me for over a year about getting a dog and I wouldn't budge. First of all I'm allergic to most dogs and cats. Since I recently got into saltwater aquariums we were in a pet shop together to look for coral and fish when I saw this little pug that I thought was really cute. Although I liked the pug, I didn't feel comfortable buying a dog from the pet shop and I knew I would be allergic to this breed. I did realize however, that I could easily grow attached to these little critters. I did some research and then surprised her about a month later by taking her with me to pick up Bernie this past Easter Sunday. We could not be any happier with him! :animal-pa |
I have ALWAYS wanted a yorkie... when I was dating my hubby I was working at victorias secret and this one girl came in with a little yorkie boy! I was in heaven!!! I wanted him soooooooooooooooooooooo bad and she said that he was the last puppy left.. so I begged and begged to get him... and nope nothing... so my hubby and I got married almost a year later... we have lived with my inlaws ever since... I unfortunately married into a family of people that hate pets... :(:thumbdown so... my inlaws are in Africa for the next year and a half and we are house sitting for them... so before they left I had been bugging them to let me have a yorkie here since I moved in... and we all sat down one night talking about all of the things that we needed to take care of while they where gone.... the subject of me getting a dog came up and they said that we where in charge and we could do whatever we wanted... so I got GRACIE!!!! :):D:cheer::cheer: |
I saw a yorkie for the first time 12 years ago and from that day on I said I would get have a few once I had all the kids and they were older. Now, I didn'T wait until my youngest was "older" but I don't regret a thing! I definately would have a housefull...right after I pulled up the carpets and laid tile or laminate or any other wipeable surface...these two have ruined the carpets...that are either new or fairly new! |
I have loved Yorkies since the first time I watched a dog show on tv I think I was about 5 years old. Then I saw Joan Rivers and she had her Yorkie and I still wanted one about 15years old, Then I got a job and moved alot and then in 1997 I ended up in Michigan and I decided it was time I got what I wanted. So I contacted a breeder and wasn't to particular on the gender but I did want a girl to make dresses for. Well the breeder only had boys left so I was gonna come look at them as it happened the day before I was going there she calls me and asks me if I still want a girl, I said yes and I asked her where the girl was from . Well I must've had an angel watching me because she told me it was the only female from the litter and a couple bought her because the wife was told she couldn't have kids then she got pregnant and they didn't want the girl anymore so they brought her back. I picked her up on my baby sisters birthday. Then came the boys a year later, and Now another year later and I will be adding a second girl to my ever growing four legged family. |
I never even liked little dogs until last summer! My friend got a Yorkie cross and I thought she was the most precious little pup. Then she had 2 puppies and I joined YT to get information and advice. I watched the pups grow and checked out all the pictures of YT babies and I feel head over heels in love with the breed! In december a lady was selling 2 pups for a very reasonable price and I looked at them and feel in love with the female. Everyday since, I fall more and more in love with my baby Tessa and the Yorkie breed! I really wish I had know about them years ago!:) |
Well it started w/the fact that we needed an animal that shedded little to no hair because my son has terrible allergies! I wanted something small that I could hold and love. My son wanted either a poodle or a yorkie! Well I went and say Autumn and that was it........the rest is history!!!!:aimeeyork |
We had a female mini schanauzer for 16 years. She was a very special part of our family. I decided that it may be fun to get a smaller breed.. so I started doing my research. I think that we got Shelby about 8-9 months later. |
I am actually a pit bull girl....but when we moved out nobody in San Diego would rent to us, so I had to find them a new home, they are doing great and although it broke my heart, I don't regret it....BUT when I was living in NY I had my pit, one roomie had a yorkie, and one had a doxie so I fell in love with the yorkie and said if I never had to get a small dog, it HAD to be a yorkie!! Ha Ha And here I am am with Maxx!!! :D |
