Nobody else understands I am getting a second yorkie puppy (a little girl) and when I told my parents and siblings (except my sister) they were like: Why? You already have a dog. And why do you want all that responsibility? Has anyone else ever felt this way? I feel that this is the only place where I can be truly honest about how I feel about Cash and the new baby. Nobody else understands. |
They are just like babies...you always want one more If you have time in your life, and the money to support a furpup's medical and maintenance costs, then you should be fine. Puppies bring a great deal of love to a home, and like human babies can cause the greatest happiness and the depths of dispair when things go bad. Can you take care of another one? Can you pay medical costs if he needs care? Ask yourself these, and the other questions one asks before having another child/furchild. Of course, there is NEVER all the time you want, or all the money you need, so just be reasonable. Can you give a new dog what he needs? Parents say the same thing about human babies, "You have one, why would you want more?" Be understanding and show compassion--they care about YOUR LIFE. |
Don't let it get to you. I get the  over mine....all the time. They are my responsibility, I can afford them...they are MY hobby of sorts. Plenty of people spend money on things that don't love you back. :p When I wanted to add a third puppy to my two yorkies...even hubby asked...why do you need three dogs? You already have two...that should be enough. My response....good thing your mother didn't feel that way...or you wouldn't be here. ;) He's 4th in the line of children. |
Just thought of a name suggestion....if you get a little girl..name her Carrie. Get it....Cash n Carrie. LOL. |
If you are in a position to be able to take care of another pup (finance, time, etc) then do what your heart tells you too.:) |
I totally understand!! Ralphie is 5 months old and I am already looking for a little girl. Everyone I know has been trying to discourage me or make me feel stupid for wanting another little baby. If they knew how much love and happiness he has brought me then they would know how I feel. You have to do what your heart tells you. And like everyone else said, if you have the money, the love and the time to properly care for a new puppy then no one should stop you. Now...hopefully my boyfriend won't break up with me when I bring another furbutt home :). Silly boy thinks one Yorkie is enough...that's just crazy talk :) !! |
On Sunday I will be getting my second Yorkie and 4th dog. I can't wait. I've told this story before but I have to share it again!!! I am a medical librarian and work with older volunteers. One woman, who had raised 7 children, looked at me one day and very belligerently said "Why would ANYONE want to have three dogs?" Without thinking I answered back (matter of factually) "Why would anyone want to have seven children?" It shut her up but she also stopped volunteering in the library. LOL No, some people just see our furry kids as property to be tolerated because their children want them or some other reason. We, as animal lovers are special people and only other animal lovers will EVER understand. |
I've talked to many people about 2 dogs vs. 1. Yes it is more work but they've explained that in a weird way it is also less work. If you can get another dog, it is a great thing for your baby now to have a companion as well as for yourself. If your dog has to be left alone at home for any period of time, you feel so much better about it if you know that he/she has a companion instead of being all by their lonesome. |
two is really not much more work, more finances yes, I have 7, and am totally addicted. |
I have a similar story....when I got my yorkie about 3 months ago, one of my co-workers looked at me and said,..."omg! Do you have any idea how much work a dog is?....have you seriously thought this through?.....it is a huge responsibility!" I said yes I have and have wanted one of these dogs since I was 8 yrs old and now is the perfect time in my life for a puppy. She even went as far as to tell me that a puppy/dog was more work than a child, of which she has 3. LOL!!!! :shocked7q:lol tearsMy mouth hit the floor and I said, really?....is that what you really think? She said yes and I even jokingly told her husband about her comment. He laughed and said she was out of her mind. Anyway, I only have one puppy and people ALWAYS have comments about everything. Like someone else stated, your family has your best interest in mind, but only you know what you are up for and can handle. Best of luck to you and your new furbaby!!!:exclaim::exclaim::goodluck: |
Yorkies are like peanuts.. one is never enough. If you are able to care for two, then go for it. Having two is the best thing I did. They play together, always have company if I'm not here and they adore each other. Don't worry about people thinking you're nuts, other than my hubby and maybe my son, everyone thinks I've lost it as far as my two are concerned. Sheilagh |
When we got Sadie I heard it from my family also.... they are such exspensive dogs. Why do you want another, you already have one. BLA BLA BLA... Then we got Sadie and they all fell in love with her.:rolleyes: |
When I got Cali, my second dog, my Mom was like you don't need another one to worry about and spend money on, so when I got the third Pixie in January, I never told my Mom and I went over to her house every day to help out. Sadly, my Mom passed away that March and never knew I had the 3rd one. One day my dtr said to me well Nana's know now about Pixie. When I got Roxie my 4th everyone thinks I am nuts!!! I say it is my life and I am the one taking care of them. You will not regret your decision. |

That's exactly how I feel. I love having 3 babies to love! I have 5 skin kids and I survived that. 3 dogs is a walk in the park and they won't go to college or have a wedding I have to pay for. :D |
