Nobody else understands I am getting a second yorkie puppy (a little girl) and when I told my parents and siblings (except my sister) they were like: Why? You already have a dog. And why do you want all that responsibility? Has anyone else ever felt this way? I feel that this is the only place where I can be truly honest about how I feel about Cash and the new baby. Nobody else understands. |
They are just like babies...you always want one more If you have time in your life, and the money to support a furpup's medical and maintenance costs, then you should be fine. Puppies bring a great deal of love to a home, and like human babies can cause the greatest happiness and the depths of dispair when things go bad. Can you take care of another one? Can you pay medical costs if he needs care? Ask yourself these, and the other questions one asks before having another child/furchild. Of course, there is NEVER all the time you want, or all the money you need, so just be reasonable. Can you give a new dog what he needs? Parents say the same thing about human babies, "You have one, why would you want more?" Be understanding and show compassion--they care about YOUR LIFE. |
Don't let it get to you. I get the  over mine....all the time. They are my responsibility, I can afford them...they are MY hobby of sorts. Plenty of people spend money on things that don't love you back. :p When I wanted to add a third puppy to my two yorkies...even hubby asked...why do you need three dogs? You already have two...that should be enough. My response....good thing your mother didn't feel that way...or you wouldn't be here. ;) He's 4th in the line of children. |
Just thought of a name suggestion....if you get a little girl..name her Carrie. Get it....Cash n Carrie. LOL. |
If you are in a position to be able to take care of another pup (finance, time, etc) then do what your heart tells you too.:) |
I totally understand!! Ralphie is 5 months old and I am already looking for a little girl. Everyone I know has been trying to discourage me or make me feel stupid for wanting another little baby. If they knew how much love and happiness he has brought me then they would know how I feel. You have to do what your heart tells you. And like everyone else said, if you have the money, the love and the time to properly care for a new puppy then no one should stop you. Now...hopefully my boyfriend won't break up with me when I bring another furbutt home :). Silly boy thinks one Yorkie is enough...that's just crazy talk :) !! |
On Sunday I will be getting my second Yorkie and 4th dog. I can't wait. I've told this story before but I have to share it again!!! I am a medical librarian and work with older volunteers. One woman, who had raised 7 children, looked at me one day and very belligerently said "Why would ANYONE want to have three dogs?" Without thinking I answered back (matter of factually) "Why would anyone want to have seven children?" It shut her up but she also stopped volunteering in the library. LOL No, some people just see our furry kids as property to be tolerated because their children want them or some other reason. We, as animal lovers are special people and only other animal lovers will EVER understand. |
I've talked to many people about 2 dogs vs. 1. Yes it is more work but they've explained that in a weird way it is also less work. If you can get another dog, it is a great thing for your baby now to have a companion as well as for yourself. If your dog has to be left alone at home for any period of time, you feel so much better about it if you know that he/she has a companion instead of being all by their lonesome. |
two is really not much more work, more finances yes, I have 7, and am totally addicted. |
I have a similar story....when I got my yorkie about 3 months ago, one of my co-workers looked at me and said,..."omg! Do you have any idea how much work a dog is?....have you seriously thought this through?.....it is a huge responsibility!" I said yes I have and have wanted one of these dogs since I was 8 yrs old and now is the perfect time in my life for a puppy. She even went as far as to tell me that a puppy/dog was more work than a child, of which she has 3. LOL!!!! :shocked7q:lol tearsMy mouth hit the floor and I said, really?....is that what you really think? She said yes and I even jokingly told her husband about her comment. He laughed and said she was out of her mind. Anyway, I only have one puppy and people ALWAYS have comments about everything. Like someone else stated, your family has your best interest in mind, but only you know what you are up for and can handle. Best of luck to you and your new furbaby!!!:exclaim::exclaim::goodluck: |
Yorkies are like peanuts.. one is never enough. If you are able to care for two, then go for it. Having two is the best thing I did. They play together, always have company if I'm not here and they adore each other. Don't worry about people thinking you're nuts, other than my hubby and maybe my son, everyone thinks I've lost it as far as my two are concerned. Sheilagh |
When we got Sadie I heard it from my family also.... they are such exspensive dogs. Why do you want another, you already have one. BLA BLA BLA... Then we got Sadie and they all fell in love with her.:rolleyes: |
When I got Cali, my second dog, my Mom was like you don't need another one to worry about and spend money on, so when I got the third Pixie in January, I never told my Mom and I went over to her house every day to help out. Sadly, my Mom passed away that March and never knew I had the 3rd one. One day my dtr said to me well Nana's know now about Pixie. When I got Roxie my 4th everyone thinks I am nuts!!! I say it is my life and I am the one taking care of them. You will not regret your decision. |

That's exactly how I feel. I love having 3 babies to love! I have 5 skin kids and I survived that. 3 dogs is a walk in the park and they won't go to college or have a wedding I have to pay for. :D |
I was in the same boat with you. When I first got Kimchee, my parents were like: Can you afford that? Now they love Kimchee to death just by seeing his pictures and my weekly reports to them (they live in Canada). They treat him like grandson: sending toys and blankets to him periodicaly. Then I got Mochi in December 2007. I did not tell them until about 1 month later. They were like: can you sell it? I said NOOOOOOOO. They said it was too much of time involved. I said I actually saved some time playing with Kimchee since he now has a playmate. I also have more fun watching them play. 4 months had passed, now my parents always ask about Mochi. They are happy to hear her news, too. |
Someone at work..who has 2 kids(human lol) and about to have her 3rd and lets just say she get lots of government assistance had the nerve to tell me that I didn't need to get a 2nd dog. OK Im a smartass I will admit it lol so yea I said it "atleast the government doesn't have to pay for babies". Prob wasn't the best thing to say but sometimes people are just so STUPID. |
Yep, Crazy dog lady here. I get crap from poeple all the time about my dogs and my devotion to them. But who do you think they call when thier dog isnt acting right? Not the vet, ME. I guess I should be flattered they reconize. Just love your babies and ignore peope without tht happiness in their lives, they dont know any better. |
I know, we have talked about getting a 3rd dog. Most of my co-workers think I'm just a crazy dog person! I try and explain that some people have skin kids and some of us have furkids and I don't care if I'm crazy, I love them to death! I say go for it, I don't think I would ever go back to one dog! As much as they fuss at each other, they provide fun and companionship as well! |
I have 3 skin kids & 2 Yorkies, a couple of weeks ago my husband asked me when I would be getting another (Yorkie not skin). He has come a long way from the guy who looked at me like I had lost my mind when I walked in with, my little gremlin eared baby, Gizmo in December. He was "thinking" about getting me a little boy for Christmas he just didn't expect me to take that idea and run with it...but know he thinks it is time for #3:) Just give your family some time to realize that these little ones can make everyone in the house smile + when the furbabies hit puberty they don't get a smart mouth on them like teenagers do (this is personal experience talking cause I would love to return my 13 year old back to when he was 9, 10 or 11 any age under 12 really). |
Oops I forgot to mention that I have started a craze - my co-worker (who also has 3 skin kids) just got her 3rd dog Star (Star is her 2nd yorkie - her 1st yorkie is my Gizmo's brother Cole) on Saturday & her mom (who has Gizmo's other brother Braxley) just got Molly her 2 yorkie on Sunday. |

some people don't get it! I have 4 and everyone thinks I'm nuts! I don't care, my yorkies are my babies and I would not trade them for the world! |
I think as long as you can afford them and can take care of them and love them, then you can never have to many...:D:D:D Of course this is from someone with 7 dogs! We have our Spicy out on loan and having the 6 only makes it to quiet.:lol tears:lol tears:lol tears |
only another yorkie mom/dad understands -- i have 4 and foster thru Save a Yorkie Rescue. my family says the same thing - "are you crazy?" i just tell them they are like lays potato chips - you can't have just one! i just know that one of these days i will fail "fostering 101" and end up adopting another pup. at this point, what's one more! :D |
I think we all get it at one time or another... my mom thinks I am crazy... until this summer, I had 5 pups(lost my TBone RIP)... Everyone I added I got harrassed by someone(ESPECIALLY the MIL) When I got my Laci(Lab) hubby didnt talk to me or the daughters for weeks... haha.... NOW, he is overly too in love with the little ones. He tried HARD not to love them, but Tootie fixed that after being here a day! When Hope came he was almost as excited as my girls... haha.... LET THEM MISS OUT ON THE FUN... LOL |
Thanks. I feel a lot better now. I spoke to my boss and I can bring the pup to work with me for the first few weeks. So, I have the time and since I now get a salary (not just allowance from my parents - on which I raised Cash) I do have the money as well. I even worked out a budget for when the baby comes. I booked her already and am going to visit her this weekend. I can't wait to bring her home. I am sooooooo excited!! Her name is going to be June Carter (late Johnny Cash's wife);) Oh, and I decided to name all my dogs after 50s musicians. |
