In Oprah's puppy mill update today she said they got contacted by several pet stores who said they do not get their puppies from mills. She went on to suggest asking and getting confirmation where the dogs come from if you buy at a pet store. C'mon the sheer volume of dogs available at any given time screams that they come from mills, besides the fact that no reputable breeder sells to pet stores. For an educated woman Oprah's denial of knowing puppy mills existed was laughable.

The rest of her update consisted of her visiting a no kill shelter and donating to pay for a no cage room for rescues...how generous of her with all her billions :thumbdown I've lost some respect for her I must say.

That is really a shame. I wonder why she would do that? Buying from a petstore is NEVER a good thing. Surely she knows that?

What a cop out! According to CAPS, 90% of all pet shop puppies are from puppy mills.

I saw the show about puppymills and I thought she was very lukewarm about it all. You can't do the babies any good if you don't have passion about the atrocious living conditions and the health issues involved. Oprah did not display any passion whatsoever on the show, in my opinion. Actually, I sort of felt that even the ones on the show that probably were (are) passionate about it didn't express it. They were probably told to keep it toned down. Too bad. The whole episode was fruitless.

I heard her today & just about choked -- she told people to really press their local pet stores about where the puppies come from - oh, yeah like they are going to admit the pups are from a puppy mill :mad::mad::thumbdown:thumbdown

I have never been so disappointed with her -- she is like a politician -- she just plays to the masses & all her celebrity friends -- so called friends, a decade ago or more she didn't have all these celebrity friends & phoniness about her

I thought that poor guy he bought the billboard that finally got her moving on the right track was probably about ready to come unglued

That's a shame, but money does change people! I used to respect Oprah and now I think she has become an elitist and is out of touch with average American people! It's too bad because the message was so important but it wasn't delivered as well as it could have been!:(

I agree. Anyone with that much money has no connection with the average American. I have watched Oprah a few times, but she comes across as pretty phony to me. It's a shame that the program about puppy mills didn't come across like it could have. Telling people to ask a pet shop where they get their puppies is pretty absurd. Oprah knows better than that. She's just pandering to the masses. She's a lot more concerned about her ratings than she is about the dogs in puppy mills. If she really cared, she could donate a few million for the construction and maintenance of a no-kill shelter. Then I would believe she cared.

Okay, I will give on this one...100% of all the pet shops in the USA do not buy from millers...but 99% do, so Oprah heard from that ONE PERCENT..big deal! Oprah has to do damage control or face some law suits...good luck finding a pet shop who will allow you to talk to the breeder before buying...

IMO she has done the same thing as she did after Katrina when she showed up in her plane with her entourage, cameras rolling, looked around and then left with her plane empty, refusing to take any people out. She has left the puppymill issue with her "plane empty". No, I'm not an Oprah fan!

i am not her fan either....when i heard her comment on pet stores i really gave up on her....her main concern is now not getting sued. she stinks just as much or more than before.:thumbdown

I have never liked her. I do like to watch Dr.Oz when he is on the show. As far as I am concerned she is a fake person and has definately let the money and fame go to her head.

I believe all of her power and money has gone to her head. She has sold out in a major way over the years. Its terribly sad. I havent watched her in years. She made a couple of very rude remarks years back and I havent had anything to do with her since. I do pray for her though.

I was disappointed in her too. Her attitude seemed placid a person needs to be passionate about something to move forward and it wasn't there.Itseemed she was more interested in sponsoring a kennel in her dogs name and having it redone than the reality of the shelter itself. Sad so the fight goes on!:animal-pa

The problem I have with Oprah, and this is coming from a man's perspective, is that she doesn't do anything without her camera's being there. She may give a lot of money and do a lot of donations but she is doing it all for the wrong reasons. She does not truly care about the television show subjects she is talking about. She cares about 2 things. Money and ratings.

I have no respect for Oprah. I think she is a phony and a sell-out. She can't seem to do anything without the cameras rolling. She is all about money and ratings. She likes to think she has so much influence on what the average american thinks, right down to what books to recommend for them to read or what presidential candidate to vote for. I can think for myself, but thank you anyway, Oprah.:thumbdown

I'm not really a fan of Oprah, but I don't have a problem with her either. However, I'm glad she did the show about puppymills and I think it did a lot of good. I've seen a lot more awareness from my friends - one even posted a facebook note about it. While we may not agree with the way Oprah handles her life and show, I'm super glad she did the show about puppymills. I don't really care if she "cares" or not.

While I'm not a fan of the update, I wholly appreciate and respect the fact that she did a show like this and brought some much need attention to the not so well known subject of puppy mills.

I don't watch her and never have & didn't see either segment - but - I DO know she touched people that were totally clueless about the reality of Mills.... and for that - she gets an A in my book -

now, if she backpedaled - shame on her. :thumbdown

She should be taking it to another level with the power she has and GET INVOLVED IN STOPPING Mills - not just talking about it once or twice.

Considering this topic needs to be out there MORE ....at least she did a show about the horrible conditions of mills and what pet stores are actually all about -

as much as my mom has heard about mills from me - it took an OPRAH show to really bring it home - she even called me saying she had no idea it was THAT bad in this country....so that's saying something...guess my mom doesn't listen to me but she sure listens to Miss Oprah LOL

So....if she's backpedalling - write the show !! The power of people can make a difference and yes - you will be heard.

I agree. She has always rubbed me the wrong way.
