How much should I pay? Hi all, Just joined minutes ago. I think I've found the puppy for me..except his price tag is a bit higher than expected: $1500, a Durrer male champion. I wasn't looking for a "champion", but this little guy captured me instantly.. So, I ask...what is a reasonable price for one of these puppies, in your opinion? JMHO but if you are getting a Durrer champion for $1,500 I'd take it in a nano second. Many pet quality Yorkies are over a thousand dollars so I doubt you can go wrong if you decide to make this purchase. |

Wow! For me personally that is a whole lotta money...I paid $650 for Brooklyn( and that is still a whole lotta moolah for my poor butt, LOL) and her great grandmother was a champion. But If you have researched the breeder well and feel that this is the pup for you I say go for it. I looked at Brooklyn and then looked around at few others but I just kept going back to her...I knew she was for me and I was for her. |
I would pay that for a Durrer pup in a second, They are beautiful dogs and very typey(sp?) love their faces. Good luck with your decision. |

I have gathered valuable info from YT breeders that I will most definitely use the next time I go Yorkie shopping. Health guarantee is going to be at the top of my list. That will be worth the amount of money I will have to pay. IMO health issues are the most difficult to deal with for the furbaby and the owner. Been there, done that. |

I think $1500 is very reasonable for a healthy, well-bred yorkie from a reputable breeder. |

How much should I pay? I thought I did this correctly the first time, but might have messed up this thread. Anyway, I wanted to thank you all for your sound advice. I definitely want this puppy...but I just saw the most gorgeous morkie (from a breeder).....I can't afford both. I wanted to ask, since I can't find info: does anyone here, or can someone validate the life expectancy of a teacup morkie? This little fella is expected to be around 3lbs, his parents are the same weight. He's 10 weeks old and the size of a hamster. The breeder will keep him for at least another 3 weeks, but I wanted to know if anyone here has a teacup (any breed) and if they've experienced any unusual illnesses? The breeder assured me that their life expectancy is in line with yorkies and malteses, but I'm skeptical....these organs must be so small. And I don't think anyone has been breeding these tiny ones long enough to validate the lenght of their life...have they? Thank you! DodgeR.....who is now torn. |
I would go with the Durrer dog before I would ever look at a T-cup. T-cups have alot of health problems and alot dont have a long life span. But on either dog, I would insist on a very good health guarantee. |

IMO $1,500.00 is more than reasonable, that's the average price for a male puppy that is usually only Pet Quality, it sounds like you got a Steal, especially for a Champion! But can you really put a price on your Happiness & Joy? Believe me that little puppy is going to change your Life. Besides your getting that one and if you're already in Love with him, maybe that will help in the long run, I have sooooo many Friends that want a Yorkie, but when they get them they don't know what to expect......High Maintenance in every way! what the heck's a Durrer champion anyway? i personally wouldn't pay $1500, but that's only because it would break my bank into a million pieces! lol. i got Kash for $750. he's very healthy, purebred, AKC, and he has a few champions in his blood line. $750 was a lot for me, but if you can afford $1500 and this pup has stole your heart, i'd go for it! :) |

What is the name of the Durrer champion ? |
I'm assuming that if he is a Durrer champion he isn't a puppy any more, am I right? I am also thinking he is neutered. Regardless, I think that is reasonable for a Durrer champion and I would pay it. I also love Durrers - nice faces and gorgeous coats on the ones I've seen. How old is this guy? Good luck with whatever you decide to do. I have a 3 lb female, 7 months, and she is very, very healthy in every way. Knock wood!! :) |

You should get whatever you want and will make you and your family happy.If it is a champion then it is ,if it is a Morkie then it is a Morkie. I would not pay a outrageous price for a mixed but many people love their Morkies. I will not tell you what you should buy that is your choice.How big did they say a tea cup should get.I do not belive in tea cups though and they should not be sold for more money I have durrer lines myself |
Thank you for your responses and input. This is a tough one for me. I know....no such thing as teacups. But I honestly didn't realize that even a 3lb adult would qualify as a Toy. So then. Shall we agree to call them Tiny Toys? :P To answer your questions: they both come with 1-yr health guarantees and pedigree info; morkie should be 3lbs full grown (apparently about 1/2 lb at 10 wks now) and he's $1200; the Durrer is 13 weeks, was 2lbs 10z last week. I think that's it. Anyway, I've set a deadline of the weekend this decision. the Durrer does have a great face and coat, but a morkie was my first choice...I just couldn't find a breeder in my area until yesterday. Sorry, I think I missed a few questions: I don't know what a champion is either. I've researched it, but the breeder told me that some of the main qualifications are around the coat, face and conformation. yes, I agree...the thought of losing him very early would break my heart...and the only thing holding me back is the size and that frankly, super-small ones don't seem to have been around long enough for some clarity on life expectancy. A risk one decides to take. No, he's not neutered. I guess he would be if he were 5 - 6 months. He's up to date on shots, though, dewormed and microchiped. DodgeR:animal36 |
