Man Kills Wife's Dog in Dispute

Times staff report

A Frankfort man was arrested early Tuesday, after he allegedly killed his wife's dog during a domestic dispute.

Jedidiah R. Duckworth, 19, 1558 Rossville Ave. Lot 19, was charged with animal cruelty, a Class D felony at 2:25 a.m.

He was released from the Clinton County Jail on a $700 cash bond Tuesday.

Frankfort Police responded to Duckworth's residence shortly after 2 a.m. Tuesday, to a report of a domestic dispute, Deputy Chief of Police Randy Emery said.

"There were allegations that this man kicked and threw the dog (across the street)," he said.

The dog, identified in police reports only as a small breed, died shortly after police arrived on the scene, Emery said.

Clinton County Prosecutor Anthony Sommer acknowledged that he had received a police report relating the incident. However, he declined to provide further details of the report, because Duckworth had not yet appeared in court for an arraignment.

Animal cruelty is a Class D felony when it involves torture or mutilation of a vertebrate animal, he said.

HE got away scott free! No jail time nothing! How do I know? Because he's harassed me for the past 4 years over my son. He abused me when I was pregnant with my beautiful baby boy and I am in the process of now getting a 2nd restraining order on this idiot because the first one expired. He's so full of hate and anger! I hate him but please you guys pray for me and my son. His wife (it was her dog) bailed him out and called me (he's never been allowed around my son) and said he was off his meds that he could've easily mistaken it for Noah. I'm terrified of what he could do to my son.

I really think that people who abuse and kill animals should be punished much more severely. If it is so easy for them to hurt animals in this way who is to say that they will not kill a human being one day? I really think they should get harsher sentences and fines for that matter as well as never being able to own another pet again in their life. It is just SICK beyond words when people hurt or kill an innocent animal who has no way of defending it self against it's attacker.

This man needs some mental help because he killed the dog during a domestic dispute, who is to say if the cops weren't called that his wife would not of been harmed too.

We had some stories here recently about a man who CUT the ears off of his german sheperd mix and another student who was here only to attend university from Asia who BEAT his huskey puppy to DEATH on the STREET! Before police could get him he fled back to his country!

My point exactly!! This guy is a creep. I really hope you can protect yourself and your son. Keep fighting don't just wait around for him to come to you. I would move as far away as you can. Someone like this will not stop. His wife is just pathetic bailing him out AFTER he killed her dog? that is just sick.

I can't just up and leave this town, my family is here & my job! His wife bailed him out and he's never so much got in an ounce of trouble over it. It's just such a mess I'm so frustrated and scared. I was searching his name to see if I could find out any other charges against him when I found this site. He's got major issues. I'm going this morning to file yet again another restraining order since the last one expired. He took a cat out int he woods and killed it with a rock while we were together. I cried and tried to stop him but was pregnant and couldn't.

He sounds like an animal. Anyone that can kill animals like he does is a threat to society

We need to change the law...so that killing a helpless animal is more than a Class "D" felony.

I am absolutely furious that he got off scott free! What kind of woman bails out such a despicable creep???? He murdered her dog! I'm sorry, but if my husband ever so much as hurt one of my babies, I wouldn't be bailing his sorry butt out of jail, unless it was to take care of him myself.

I agree anyone who would do something like this to a tiny helpless animal will likely move on to bigger prey. What if the next time its his child or wife. He should be put under the jail and throw away the key.
