Bees attacked my Furbaby We had quite a fright last night. Around 1030pm, my furbutt decided she wanted to go outside. Well, she ultimately stuck about 1/2 her body into a beehive :( :( I, of course was shrieking like a mad woman. She ran out of there 90 mph and started rolling around and scratching her face. Eventually, i stopped chasing her and called her to me and she ran right into my arms. I had half the mind to jump into the pool with her but I didn't see any bees on her. I took her into the patio where the light was on and checked her out. I didn't see any stings but she'd cry if I tried to touch her face. Then she started growling and such (she never does this). I called the after hours vet emergency # and took her into the animal hospital. The whole way there she was whining and growling. Of course I caught every red light in this 10 minute drive. Once we got there she calmed down and the vets couldn't find any stingers on her or swollen areas. They gave her Benadryl (sp?) shot and I waited around with her for about 30 minutes just in case she had any sort of reactions. She seems back to her normal self now. active, not whining or crying if I touch her face. Never did find any stingers or bumps after at least 10 searches by 4 different people (me, family, vet, etc). So, I'm not sure if she just got freaked out and they flew into her face. Anyways, sorry for the long story but I wanted to know if there was anything in particular I should look out for or do besides what the vet told me to do? Thanks for taking the time to read my lonnnng post ~V |
ah, poor baby- i'd be look to get the hive out of there!! |

How scarry! My Taz tried to eat a bee once, and it got him on the lip. Gave him benedryl, after calling the vet, and he was fine. He did swell up a little, but with mom's TLC, all was well.:D |

oh i hope little mans ok give him lots of extra loving |
I'm so glad evereything turned out OK. I'm sure your quick thinking helped. |
That certainly was too close for comfort. I am so happy he is alright. It's amazing he was not stung at all. Buddy sniffed in the grass when he was 9months old and he let out a yelp. I looked around and didn't see anything but about 1/2 hrs later I looked at him and his whole right eye was red and swollen. He could barely open his eye. Yes, he did get stung by a bee and Benedryl was what the vet said and ice. He was fine later but I can just imagine how frighted you must have been. Hugs to your baby, |
What a scary experience for you! Sounds like you handled it just right! I'm so glad you and your furbaby are fine now! |
Oh your poor baby! That happened to my Great Dane once. He stuck his head in the flower pot and got attacked by wasp's! Just to find out that he is allergic to them. Within minutes his face blew up that his skin was bright red and his fur was separating because his face swelled up so much! Then his tongue..........it was hanging out and SO BIG! It was the scariest thing that has ever happened to any of my animals. |

Thanks everyone for the well wishes. She seems to be doing just fine now. I rechecked her again a bit ago and found nothing and no whining either. she ran around the house and tuckered herself out and now is napping next to me. :-D going to try to figure out how to get rid of the bees now. BTW: i went out this morning and got her a new pretty dress and some bows (don't worry she wasn't left home alone) I just felt so bad!! |
Lord it they invent it a yorkie can get into it....hope your baby will be fine. |
oh V you have to show pics of Bindi in her new dress!!! |
Glad your baby is ok. Parker is always playing with a bug on the patio. Now I will be watching him constantly. I know that had to be scary. |

awe poor baby! I hope she feels better! |
Sounds like you did everything right to me by rushing her into the ER vet. I'm glad she's ok, walking into a bees next like that can be very life threatening. I'd definately take the bees nest out though, she may not be so lucky next time. Our Boxer mix from year back got stung by a bee one day and his throat started sweling shut, his face was so swollen as well as his neck. The ER vet gave him injections and I had to stay up all night with him to make sure the swelling didn't come back and had to give him meds (benadryl) through the night. |
How Scary!!! So glad EVERYONE's okay!! We had a dog that was stung on the nose by a wasp in his doghouse. He would never go back into the doghouse and the hair never grew back on his nose. I also had my 2 1/2 year old skin-daughter kick a huge wasp nest that fell out of a tree after a storm (one of those "see what's about to happen but unable to get the "NOOOOO" out of your mouth soon enough" moments). She was swarmed. That was the most helpless confusing feelings I ever had. Do I run in? Have her run to me? It was one of those moments in which you remember nothing and have to ask other people what you did. Luckily, the adults were out of the nest and only the small ones were there at the time (per the "autopsy" we did on the nest after dousing it with gasoline). They seemed confused and although swarming her, she only got a couple of stings. I hate wasps and dislike bees. |
Oh my, that is so scary! I am so glad she is ok. |
Bless Bindi's heart. I'm glad she is ok and that you noticed right away! Do pls post pics of her new dress!;) |
thanks again everyone! will post pics on the pic board tomorrow :) |
Ouch! Poor baby! I'm sorry that she got into this problem. I would have freaked out too as I am allregic to bee stings. I hope she will be fine form now on, and I hope you can get rid of that bee hive. Sue & Cricket :aimeeyork |
