just look here. PETA KILLS ANIMALS :thumbdown http://www.petakillsanimals.com/petaKillsAnimals.cfm |
I puppy mills one side of the spectrum and Peta on the other, with most of us somewhere in the middle, and I believe both extremes are cruel. |
I agree with you guys PETA sounds like control freaks like MyFairLacy mentioned. They need to be put in place. I agree with stopping breeding with bybs and puppy mills I would like them to disappear completely! I do not agree with pets gone completely its ridiculous! I would be living in one sad world and I refuse! I hear every day therapy dogs help sick people and people who have stress related problems. |

I just don't understand why people can't do the right thing, I wouldn't want Jasmine in the wild...I couldn't protect her or provide a roof over her head for her.... |
thanks for the wake up call that article really opened my eyes! I had no idea what PETA has been up to. No companion animals??? Leave them to go into the wild??? These babies are not equipped to live in the wild!!!!!!! My G-d! These people are crazy!!! ~Melody |
I honestly didn't know what PETA was all about until YT!!! I'm wanting to see if I can put some of this on myspace page to bring more info to others on this matter, I for one couldn't do without my Yorkies & Goldfish (We have a little pond in our BY) and I'm sure anyone else who loves their animals no matter what they are (Dogs, cats, fish, birds ect...) feels the same way as I do. Could any of U here help me come up with some wording (Don't want to offend anyone by how it is worded on myspace and I'm not that good at wording things as U can already tell by a lot of my post :) ) and some sites that can be linked to for learning? (Loved the ones here on this thread!) I would like to explain what PETA is about. It is easy to think they are doing good for our animals. And my older daughters knows tons of people who could help spread the word about this and why keeping up with Pet Laws in our own State is important. What do U all think about me doing this & can U help me come up with something good for myspace? |
I don't know if this post should be here or where it should be (If needs to be somewhere else please move it) but I thought since there was talk of pet laws and such her it might be okay to post it here. Anyways Deana (Thank U very much!!) has brought the Pet Laws to my attention in my own City, County and State. Well I've been doing nothing for the past 2 days but searching and reading about Pet Laws, who to write/contact and such, while searching I've came across some bad, bad sites on Puppy Mills, Pet Store Puppies and such, it is so heart breaking to view this. I feel I have to get involved somehow! I never in my life seen as I've seen and realized in the past few days (I watched Oprah too). And there's something else (Like the Puppy Mills) that I don't know if people here at YT know about that I think they should be aware of. I never knew about it until I did my searching! Do U think I should put a new thread on YT about what I've found (It's so sad :( guys and it's here in my own State and not very far from my City that I live in!) I just want to try to somehow help, this is truly killing me, inside my heart is so heavy with this. I never ever thought things like this could happen so close to where I live. I just want others to try to understand how this comes about and how we get these puppies and how they get into the shape they are in. I know those here will and do have their own OPO about things like this. I'm in no way saying all breeders are bad this isn't it, if people would just take a look and read what I've found then they will maybe just maybe think twice about all this as far as Puppy Mills and Pet Store Puppies. What do U all think? I really don't know what to do. I know I'm some how going try to defend Responsible Breeders and try to get something done about the Pet Store Puppies/Puppy Mills here in our area. :) |
About the post wanting to stop breeding: I believe YT is able to contribute to less breeding by removing the Featured Breeders, Yorkies for Sale, and even the Nursery sections (and one can go so far as saying the Breeders forum, I'm sure you will). New people sign on to YT just to sell puppies (posting for sale threads with 5 posts etc..). Irresponsible breeders probably do more breeding than normal believing that they'll sell on YT. Anyone can pay money to be a Featured Breeder. I think it might bite into new membership but not by much, which will be good if it's only people looking to sell puppies. It's an outlet to irresponsible breeders period and buyer's have a false sense of security. YT is a big forum and influential to the breed. YT obviously contributes to the Yorkie community wonderful information by caring people, but the contributation to overpopulation should be thought about. JMO. |
This is a COMPLETELY one sided article and states nothing about what PETA or the HSUS has done to improve the welfare of YOUR ANIMALS. Frankly, I am shocked at the extremism I've seen in the replies on this thread - from what I see, you'd fit right in at "extremist" PETA, according to how y'all describe them. If PETA weren't here, you could picture your own babies right this minute in: ***Automobile crash tests ***Live vivisection ***Medical school anatomy labs ***Cosmetic testing (that is now replaced by computer models) I could go ON and ON - PETA did ALL of this, when NONE of it was "fashionable". And, you know what ELSE was "borne" of PETA - all the other more "direct-care" organizations that care for the animals - which are also necessary. Yes, PETA can be annoyingly radical - but sometimes you need a pie in the face to even know that it's there. You need the left, you need the right - and you need the middle - so I believe there is a PLACE for all of these organizations and for ALL of their accomplishments and missions. And, when you bash the crap out of one of them - I think you hurt all of them. PETA is, essentially, a lobbyist organization - and, unfortunately - the animals need a lobbyist organization as well as direct care organizations. |

I"m not extremist by any means but PETA is one of the worse propaganda pet organizations out there! Just my opinion agree with it or not :) Donna |
I dont support Peta at all. They are too radical for me |

Our shelters are FULL. ALL THE TIME. I used to be a member of the PETA org and while they're a bit WAY out there and extreme - they've done ALOT TO HELP ANIMALS. They may be controversal but I think in the long run their goal is to help animals. The bad press may be true but overall in the BIG PICTURE - they really do get out some serious messages and educate people who really don't know what's happening in our country. Same with the HUMANE Society - everyone screws up - we aren't perfect but in my opinion - they too CARE about animals. If we didn't have these orginazations the pet population would be even WORSE than it is now - the animal testing would be WAY WORSE and many many more dogs/cats and other animals would be put to sleep ..... |
Let's not forget - if it wasn't for these extremists - FUR WOULD BE STILL POPULAR and we all know how fur coats etc are made. :( :( Thank God the world (at least our country) is waking up to the torture and cruelty involved in the fur industry and it's BECAUSE of these groups that the word is out there. |
oops not contributation lol, contribution would be correct. I can't believe I made up a word lol |
I use to be an avid supporter of Peta, and refused to believe some of the more extreme "rumors" I heard about them. However, with their primary goal of eliminating pet ownership, it doesn't matter how much good they have done in the past. Laws initiated by them would indeed hurt the ethical breeder as much as the puppymiller because they do indeed want ALL breeding stopped. As I suggested in post 6 for those of you who find it hard to believe all the things you've hard about Peta, please watch the HBO documentary: I Am An Animal: The Story of Ingrid Newkirk and PETA . This was not done as a bash piece and does show some of their good work, but most importantly, it allows Ms. Newkirk to speak for herself about her goals. I think some of you need to hear for yourselves what she has to say. I realize many people believe that the end justifies the means, but we must remember her main goal is the elimination of all pets. |

I think that if selective breeding never existed, animals would be better off. This goes for horses, cows, dogs, cats, etc. Ultimately, I would love for people to get to that point. However, since breeding is here, we owe something to the animals whose 'wild' survival instincts have been bred out of them. I think some of us need to be reminded that animals are not here for our entertainment. |

And YT doesn't make any money from the regular for sale section. While you have to donate to be a featured breeder or to sell clothing and such, you don't have to donate (or even have posted before) to place a for-sale ad. I just don't see the point in having puppy for-sale sections... |
I'm sorry but there is no way I can support an organization, PETA (or any like org.) that use the extreme measures they use to get a point across... There have been many other organizations and clans that have also used extreme measures to get their point accross and I don't think many of you would support those organizations either... PETA kills animals ...PERIOD...Would you give your pet up to them?...I know some of you support some of what they do but if you can't stand behind all the extreme measures they take then please do not support them... Yes, there are too many dogs, cats, etc in shelters today...I am a firm believer that if every breeder would rehome pets that came from their breedings there would be no need for shelters.. Stopping all breeding means the extinction of all dog breeds or public nusiance of stray, wild dogs in communities...HMmmm I don't see anything better about that! ~Laura |

 I've always said that PETA has done some great things as well, but I believe their intentions are really for the wrong reasons. They don't want to stop suffering of animals...in their own way they want to continue it. They want to eliminate our pets completely. I can't support an organization that wants to take my babies away from me |
