My Murphy is a stubborn little man...he hates to go on walks. I really wish he liked it because Mia LOVES to walk and Murphy is the one that really needs to walk. When I take him I have to end up dragging him all the way or carrying him because I just get fed up. On the way home though he is high tailing it home because he knows I have a cookie waiting for him and the sofa is calling his name. :p
Can you guys give me any tips for helping me teach him to enjoy his walks
? | Try giving him a small treat when you put his leash on. Stand in front of him when he doesn't want to walk. Let him sniff the treat and give it to him and praise him. Then walk backwards a few feet and repeat to see if he will walk for a treat and praise. If he does continue this when you go for walks. I bet he will be walking soon. How do you hold the leash? Do you hold it sort of short and to your side or do you let him have the full leash to walk? I have the feeling that he needs your energy as a pack leader for him to feel comfortable walking I would hold the leash short and to your side and feel relaxed when walking him. Let us know how the walking goes. :animal-pa |
