Brownies mom- Is Kayko considered a yorkshire terrier or a silky terrier? We have yorkshire that has the same coloring as kayko. She started the same as Kayko as well. Her papers say she is a blue/gold yorkie.... And her lineage show all yorkies as well... |
kayko is a silky terrier |

my yorky is gold and black, my vet told me that when the yorkys are more golden on the head an legs is better than when they have little black in does parts |
yes ive heard that its best if the black doesnt intermingle with the gold or tan. |
I had to make a comment in regard to Chocolate yorkies. A lady I know has one, she is quite pretty and to date at 3 years old, has had no health problems, she is spay. This is the only chocolate I have ever seen in person and her good health may be a fluke in a chocolate. I know nothing about them except they are a mutation, so what the norm is on typical health is a mystery to me. I wouldnt breed for them, because they are not a good representation of the breed but I wouldnt consider a breeder lying if they called them "rare" because in truth they are not a typical coloring born in most litters. Im sure they would make a good pet just like any non perfect yorkie does. I do agree they should be nuetered or spayed. Paying a higher price for one is really no different then paying a higher price for a teeny yorkie and people do that all the time. Teenies shouldnt be bred either and have tons of health probs. Those tiny weights arent listed in the akc standard to my knowlege either. In regards to showing. My feeling is if someone is willing to pay for something different and want something different then by all means let them. But I do think a breeder should tell them this is a mutation etc.... SOme people dont want to show, they just want "something different" and as long as they arent breeding them, its cool with me.......these babies need a good home too. Im not condoning breeding for chocolates, teenies, parti colors...etc but some people want that type of dog, and by their being a market for for this it will continue. I happen to love the look of german Biewers with the white in their coat and would love to have one!! But the difference with that is, they are bred to be that way and are a different breed, so in that dog its standard..............but I wouldnt breed for a chocolate or parti yorkie because its not standard for the american yorkie and by doing this I would be going out of the standard. Which Is not acceptable. Besides if someone with a chocolate yorkie wanted to join this forum.......they would be scared off !! I know you guys would oooo and ahhh over their brown baby too.............you bunch of softies...............lol Lord Im windy tonight. |

hi-i am a veterinarian and one of my customers is a breeder and she ocasionally gets chocolate yorkies- she has kept 2 and i think they are gorgeous- i have been wanting a chocolate yorkie- are u interested in selling to the us- i can get the breeder to ship u pictures- the pups are a recessive color so it may be better for a vet to have one-hint-i love the amber/greenish eye color-please contact me. gratzi-yorkie power- dr. wendy |
I see you're in Cherry Valley, CA. I have a friend in that general area. Are you in private practice or part of a grouping of vets at a clinic or animal hospital? |
hi- i own my own pracice- it is called aaffordable quality veterinary care 951-845-2675-which is why i have no free time becuz i am the only vet but my bookkeeper brings her dogs to work and "babysits" my yorkie kidz in the office during the day- i am in a deep depression becuz i only want to help animals- i volenteer for the local animal shelter and give them low cost deals- i give any rescue or animal shelter adoption a free exam-i have my own personal rescue dogs, cats and birds that i fix and adopt at my own expense but many rescue people are either uneducated or fraudulent and i am naive- i helped the california horse rescue that got shut down and bounced all their checks to me- i gave them my cost- only but it was several thousand dollars and i was the vet that Tiger rescue called to their residence- the facility in colton, ca was improving after i came out every Sunday, my only day off, to help improve the standards becuz USDA told me that the tigers would have no where to go and be euthanized so i volenteered and USDA said the facility in Colton was improving-then, the owners called me to their residence in 4\03 and the police arrested me, beat me up and charged me with 7 felonies of animal creulty on the street before i saw any animals and i am very depressed becuz i lost business and got death threats and i only tried to help animals- i am in federal court suing the police and the county but the damage emotionally and mentally exceeds any fiscal return! the case is in the news becuz tippi hedron just testified- my lawyer thinks this is a legal first becuz the san diego zoo vet did not know enuff tiger medicine so i went from being a defendant to expert witness in the same case!!! i trust animals only no more people!-yorkie power-dr. wendy |
Wow, our first vet on YorkieTalk! Welcome, Dr. Wendy, I'm sure you'll be a valuable asset to our community. That's horrible you were arrested just for treating animals! Is there anything your lawyer can do to get you some kind of compensation? |
Biewer Hi All, I'm new to the list - joined because I love my yorkies! I have a silver and tan female yorkie and recently purchased a Biewer Yorkie from Germany. I love the Biewers - they are so lovable and they have the Yorkie attitude. He is an absolute doll! Thought I'd post my opinion....hope nobody minds - I bought my Biewer (Rhett) because I wanted a pet that I could show. I used to show Springers....I guess that's why I like the black and white Biewer so much! I can only show my baby in Rare Breed shows - which is fine because they are few and far between and I can't get crazy going to them like I did my Springer.....LOL We have 5 children so the hubby went crazy any time I went to a show! Anyway - I love showing the babies, can't wait to get started this summer! I have been corresponding with a breeder in Germany who has Biewer's that are closely related to the original Biewers. I wanted to make sure that I'm not getting a dog that has been breed to a maltese or something to get the Biewer colors. It's fun to have something different but I don't love my Biewer any more than my Yorkie, Gracie - what a little terror she is - She rules the roost here - the springers don't even mess with her. She has no idea she is a "little" dog - it's great! And she talks to us all the time - I love how she does that. Anyway - just thought I'd post my opinion on the colors issue.....Thx! Debbie :) |
you know i think that maybe since your the first vet here that maybe you can have your own page that we can ask you questions. i think that it will be very handy to all of us especially if it's a minor problem like say ear taping, noise making things like that instead of us going to our vet and spending on office visits just so that our vets can tell us that it's normal. you know what i mean hopefully it happens! |

Welcome Dr. Wendy! Your story is so inspiring! Thank you so much for posting and we hope you continue to post frequestly. I hope we can help get your message out and help in your effort to help the animals. It what we all want. I think exotic colored yorkies are really cool too! |
Debbie!! Welcome to you too. I also love the Biewer but I don't own one. I would love to someday. I do have a parti-colored gold and white yorkie that I adore. She is so precious. There are pictures in the gallery. Her name is Chai. How was the experience of getting your Biewer from Germany? Were you on a waiting list? How long did you wait? Was he expensive? So may questions, sorry!! |
Kim, Yes, he was expensive - I got him through Canada from Germany. I realized after that I paid alot for him, but getting one in the U.S./Canada is expensive, I guess because of all the expense of getting them here in the first place. I am on a waiting list for one from a breeder in Germany. I have to go there to get the puppy. He will not ship the puppy by itself. Which is fine with me because I want to see all of his puppies. He has worked with the original Mr. Biewer who started the breed so I'm looking forward to meeting him and seeing his dogs. I still had to go through customs, etc. with my baby, Rhett. It was easy though and I didn't have to wait for him, I found the website accidentally one day and a week later he was here. I absolutely LOVE these puppies - he is such a sweetie - I will post a pic as soon as I can..... Bailey's Mom - The American Biewer Club shows at the Rare dog breed shows. I think it is the International All Breed Dog Shows....? I've just begun looking into them. Also, there is a Rare Breed Show - the Biewers are listed in the companion group..... |
My Biewer, Rhett.... 1 Attachment(s) Here is a pic of my baby..... |
