the little witch tried to bite me the other day i gave lexi one of those hard chicken filet treats and then tried to get it back from her to see if she would let me, but she almost took off my dam fingers off. she was staring at me with her beady looking eyes as to say, try it!!!! and you will see what you get..!!!! i yelled at her and she ran to try to hide it under the heater vents, but i saw it hanging out there so i crawled under the end table to this chicken thing and streched my arm to get it and she growled at me and snapped at me. well, my hand went under my arms so fast. that little thing scared the crap outta me. she would of bitten my dam fingers off...so what was i supposed to do? hit her?? yeah right, i couldnt even catch her... i said oh yeah!! so i put my coat on and left her in the house by herself with that dumb chicken thing.. she said bye bye mom...came home 10 minutes later she was happy to see me... i wanted to scream.. just though you all would get a kick out of this story... its funny, but not really |
Lexi said "No backsies"...:p |
Maggie tried that bitting thing with me when I groomed her the first time. I just pooped her mouth, not hard, just enough to scare her. She never tried it again. Hugs to you poor Mommy! |
I guess Lexi just wanted you to know she is in charge!!!:D Seriously though, Im glad you did not get bit. That would of been very painful - these little dogs have such powerful jaws, its amazing considering their size! |
yeah ,and i backed up so fast,i cracked up at myself.. i couldnt believe myself,, how embarassing. |
Oh my...Lexi wanted her treat! lol I am also happy that you did not get bit for they can be painful. I bet she looked all over for you when you left for she wanted her Mommy!! Hugz, Mary |
Trust me, I know the feeling. When we go out on walks, Marley always picks things up like rocks. When I try to get them out of her mouth, she growls and bites me, one time she even drew blood! Her trainer said that she most likely thinks she's the alpha dog, and she's thinking "who are you to take that from me". She seems to be better lately, luckily. Even though they're small, it still hurts! |
Wow, Lexie really loved......that treat, didn't she. :D Glad you didn't get bit. She's such a sweetie pie otherwise. :) :aimeeyork |
Rosi done that a few times when i tried getting something away from her, but never hard, well what i do....as i never let her win ;) i put a clove on and make it mine :D She knows if i want it , i get it !:D |
its been likethis since day one.. how the heck am i supposed to get things away from her? other than that, im the alpha.. |
Give the rest of the chicken filets to a neighbor's dog. That'll teach her. ;) |
Welcome to my world, at times, with Buddy! It's funny reading but not so funny when your experiencing it. We been working on this food guarding for three years! When he has something special like that and I want to teach him a lesson for growling big brave me gets either the gate to put infront of me or the swifter mop to reach for it. He bit the mop a couple of times! Sounds funny but he's lucky I don't pull his ears off one of these days. Scary because they are bigger Yorkies. Hang in there Gina and try holding it next time and giving her a couple of licks and taking it away. Then 10mins later do the samething. It has worked pretty good for Buddy. As long as you don't give her the whole things for awhile. Just take it away after a couple of minutes. |
once she gets it in her mouth, shes gone, under the bed, around the table, anywhere away from me.. shes not like that with food, bullysticks. i guess cause shesalways gets them... |

LOL Right, she's just letting you think your the Alpha;) Try the swifter if you have one. Works everytime! |
if i grab a broom or something, she bites it.... shes a witch i tell ya. she goes after things like that.. i guess cause when she was a baby till now we play like that..everynite i grab a broom and chase her, she runs, but comes back for more.. its just too funny,, we exercise like that in the winter |
She is under the impression that she is dominate over you. you must assert yourself. Make her work for everything! (food, toys treats) make her sit or back off or something. And get her used to you taking things away from her. this goes for anything that she has. As the alpha you have the right to have anything you want from her! PM me if you have any questions and keep me posted! |
thanks yorkiemom.. tonight she is working for everything.... cause im the alpha.. ha ha |

Abby did that to me 2 days ago. She had never done it with anything until I gave her a merricks flossie for the first time. I tried taking it away and she almost bit me and ran away with the thing and hid in a corner. I was like WTF!! LOL. I tracked her little furbutt down and took it away from her. She whined in front of me the WHOLE NIGHT!! So persistant that she actually did a roll over for me 5 times .... SHE NEVER DOES THAT.... so she got it back... GOOD LUCK TO YOU TONITE... |
i will try it, but if she bites me,im gonna be very annngryyyy. |
Max will "drop" things most of the time, when told to do so. I don't have a problem touching him or his food when he is eating. He'll let me put my fingers in his mouth, but will not let me brush his teeth, or use gauze. He will not drink tap water, only filtered, (that's my boy), and he prefers me to feed him rather than his daddy lol. He know exactly what "no bite", means, and reserves that for his daddy. Daddy is prone to the odd bite, but not his mummy, who once gave his little ear a nip with her teeth  . |
AAAhhhhhhhh yorkies! Gotta love these lil terrors! |
I'll give you some advice on teaching your kids not to bite or growl when you take something away or go near their food. From now on, every piece of food they get, comes from your hand. No yummy treats yet. Just dog food. Then you teach them that you can take anything back out of their mouths and you do not allow them to so much as growl at you. Once they learn that, let them eat from their dish, give them the sit command, and do not allow them to eat until you say, "OK". Every so often, as they are eating from their dish, reach in and put something in their dish while they are eating. If they growl, go back to hand feeding. Once you're back to being able to take things out of their mouth, try the food dish again. It will take time, but it can be done. I've done this since my girls (9 years & 12 years) were puppies. To this day, I can reach in their food dishes and they don't so much as growl. A piece of food can fall on the floor next to their dish and I can pick it up and hand it to them. It was an important lesson as I knew the day would come that I would have grandchildren and I didn't want to risk my grand-babies getting bitten. Good Luck! Sheila |
Man, that must have been some really good treats! What is it called? |

I agree, that is soo cute. For me, when I hold Squeekie and she's being protective or grouchy she would growl at Wookie but ends up biting me on the cheek or arm or where ever I was holding her during her mood swings. Of course it hurted so I would yell :( then she would give me that puppy dog eyes and all was forgiven. |
I know this is a serious matter and I wish you all the best with it, but I have to tell you I was laughing so hard at the way you told the story I was crying! I know it's not a funny situation, but you have a funny way of telling it! Good luck! |
I'm sorry so many of us are not taking this serious. I am dredfully afraid for you, you are truly in immediate danger from this little menace. I hate to tell you, but I only see one way to assure your safety. It will be very hard on both of us, but I think you should send her to boot camp at my house. I will whip her right into shape as fast as possible. I will return her to you as soon as I feel she will not be a health hazard to you any longer. It may take awhile, so I will send you progress reports and pictures. I know you appreciate the effort I am making on your behalf , but that is what we here on YT do for each other.:D :D :D |
My mom's dog Teddie is like this...lol I mean it's really not funny, but it's my dads fault. When they were still together he would egg her on and mess with her while she was eating... Now she's like that with everything. You DO NOT mess with Teddie when she's eating, sleeping, or chewing on a bone, or has one of her favorite toys. Except me. She growls at me once and point my finger and say NO, BAD GIRL...and that's it...she quits. None of mine have ever been food aggressive, but I am constantly reaching in and around their bowl to do whatever I want. They'll turn their heads away with a treat if they think I'm trying to take it...but just a firm NO usually gets them to drop it. Even the girls I got as adults are pretty good about everything. Luckily I got sweet ones...;) |
