staryorkie raffles for a free teacup puppy Hello, for the past month I've gotten 2 emails from http://staryorkie.com. They said they're giving away 1 free teacup puppy. The "entrance fee" is only $5.00. It's a puppy raffle. Here's their email: On 04-25-08 we will give away a tiny tea cup Yorkie (Yorkshire terrier) puppy to one lucky person. To get your chance of winning this amazing bundle of joy, visit our website: WWW.STARYORKIE.COM Thank you for your time, Have a nice day. Ben & Gina Star Yorkie Kennel Anyone know if they're a puppy mill or what their operation is like? I'm a bit surprised to see something like this. And why do they phrase the purchase of their puppies as "Adopt this puppy for $4000" instead of just "Selling for $4000"? I don't get it. |
Not too long ago we had a disscusion about this and i think the general thought was it was a scam i would post the link to that thread but dont know how but you can search it |
Oh it's not a scam per se....it's just they are trying to get more money....if enough people buy tickets to get a free puppy they will make a lot more than if they just sold it directly to someone. I just would think they would want to know who was getting the puppy and no just let a random person win it. This is who I bought Teddi from and I am so very glad I got exactly what I wanted (except for the liver shunt that I didn't not relize I was getting as a bonus!). |
Scam I am sure this is a scam and there is no yorkie, just a lot of silly people who will send them $5.00. Who on earth would fall for this kind of scam? :animal-pa |
A "breeder" using the term "tea cup" is red flag enough for me. |

Wow, I'm so sorry that happened. Hope all is well with Teddi. |
They are a "legitimate" business if you want to call them that. They are about a mile from where I live, have been slammed time and again for their selling of unhealthy puppies and they import all their puppies from overseas. I cam across them when I was looking for breeders in Los Angeles. I seriously doubt they will give away a puppy in the end... |
I just think it is strange that $5.00 can make you the new parent of a yorkie. No "background check" or anything like that? The breeder we we got our pups from made sure to meet with us, talk to us and made sure that we were going to be caring and responsible yorkie parents. I am glad she did it, made me realize she was protective of her babies and only wanted them to have the best life they could. |
I recieved this email twice now,I don't know how they got my email address, weird. I also got a email from someone that got the same email and forward to all they sent it to saying they had trouble with staryorkies.I don't remeber the details though. |

I would be really interested to know where they got our e-mail addresses. Some how they had to have been sold to them. I am so particular about who gets my e-mail address I don't understand how they got it? |

It says on the FAQ page of the web site that the puppies are from Korea. They only have a waiting period of 1-4 weeks if the puppy you want is not available. To me that says these are Korean puppy mill dogs shipped over here to sell for big bucks. Maybe I'm wrong, but I wouldn't buy from them.:thumbdown |
Sounds like a scam to me and a bad one at that:( |
This is so sad |
Well, it's definitely marketing genius, however of course it's unethical. People who don't win the free puppy will probably win a "coupon worth 500.00", and that will entice lots of people to buy from them. I'm curious to sign up for it just to see if I would win the coupon, but then they would get my $5.00. |

No, our yorkies came from different breeders in different parts of the US, but I had been looking for quite some time in this area and there were not any breeders available, not reputable any way. Your mother must have left this area before then, because I did not know of her. Did you also live in Shelton? |
I would definitely run for the hills on this one! |

i think not only is this their way of making more money by collecting many peoples 5 dollars, but its also a way (i think) to get rid of a puppy with "issues" that someone normally wouldnt pay for. its like.. HEY you won a yorkie for 5 bucks but you gotta pay 4,000 in vet bills when you "discover" their genetic defects |
You Guys Are Funny! 1 Attachment(s) Hi Guys, It's me Ben from Star Yorkie Kennel. First of all i must say i am very impresed with the publicity of our small promotion. I never thought it will become so famouse. When we started it, the idea was really to allow one person to have a puppy they would normally won't be able to afford. So we thought, if everyone will cheap in, one lucky person will have the best day in their life when they will find out they won a tiny puppy. I must say at this point that we have allready reached our original asking price for the puppy and from know on all the additional income from this campaign will be donated to diferent rescue teams. Now, as far as the person who will win. No need to say we will not let anyone have any of our babies without making sure they will be a responsible dog owner, and this goes not only for the puppy we will give away but also for every other puppy we will have for adoption. If anyone have more questions about anything that we do we will be more then happy to answer all your questions via email. email: puppies@staryorkie.com I think it is better to get answers then raising stupid suspections. Good Luck everyone! P.S if you would like to be removed from our email list please email us with the subject : Remove Thanks, :) |
You know I was fine with this response....untill HI think it is better to get answers then raising stupid suspections. Good Luck everyone! That was probably uncalled for.......I need to look up"suspections" in the dictionary......I haven't used that term before..... Quote:
Ok...here is the definition.....1. suspections 1 thumb up Closely related to suspicions, but in regards to dealing with an individual who may have ulterior motives, or may possibly be suggesting something lewd. |

Yorkiekist. I raised this question too, last night but for some reason it disappeared. If you read his FAQ section there is nothing said about screenings etc. Only thing said is how to pay and when you need to make arrangements for pick up or shipping or be charged a $25 a day fee. I also asked to see pictures of the parents which I believe someone else asked as well, but was told he is unable to get pictures from Korea. I'm sure like I am you are aware that this is the big thing now. Brokers buying pups from out of country. It's cheaper. And, the only reason they are not sold at 6 weeks or 8 weeks is because they cannot be shipped legally until a certain age, although I do believe that too can be fudged. If you ask those that sell from out of country why they do it etc. the answer they all have is "My family has a beautiful farm there and they raise blah blah blah." These dogs are crammed into containers and driven sometimes hours or days before they reach the destination to be shipped. They are then put on a long plane trip (Think of how long a trip from Russia to the USA or Korea to the USA). After they are cleaned up and put out to sale. Some are getting big bucks - others are selling mixed pups for $800 - if they are able to sell that cheap then you know how much they pay for the pup from overseas and why they buy from other countries. And, if you think our puppymills are bad think how they are in a country where there are barely laws to protect people let alone animals. Elaine |
This is definately a puppy mill. Besides the audacity of raffeling a puppy, I was amazed at their prices for non-AKC Yorkies. I can't imagine what these people are like...I suppose I can... Yuck! |
That is not true! 1 Attachment(s) Quote:

Just think of the conditions that the people live in in that country and then just think of the conditions the dogs must live in. I cant believe that there are actually people in this world that are so uneducated that would buy any of these puppies. |
