Can you believe this? I am so hurt!
 

I posted to re-home a possible Silky two days ago, well I didnt get any hits here so I posted him on Craigslist well I picked the person I saw best fit. she asked all the right questions and was so nice, so I dropped him off to her yesterday around noon. then when I got home that night I got on Craigslist and there she was re-homing him for $100!! I gave him to her for FREE!! She said she just wanted to get her money back for what she paid for him. Can you believe her!!?? I am so hurt, now I dont know if he is going to be in a good home. And how dare her ask that much money for a dog that we have no idea what he is. He looks alot like a Silky but he could be mixed. I wrote her and asked her why she was doing this all she said was he isnt getting along with my other dog. When she took him she said she knew it would take a few days for them to get used to each other and that she would keep him until at least Friday if it didnt work out and that she had a friend that would keep him if she didnt. I am so mad!! I have a posting for my Grandma's cat (my grandma passed away a couple months ago) my sister is trying to take care of her right now but she has 3 dogs and a cat of her own and this cat is so scared of the dogs that if she see's them she will go potty where ever she is at. So we need to re-home her and I dont know if I should even trust anyone anymore. I cant take her because I am staying with my parents right now and my mom said no way. What do I do?

go get the dog back and re-home it with someone else.

Never let a dog go for free or on Craigslist.

I would tell her I want him back. and try and find another home! Next time make a written agrement. that makes the pet comes back to you if not kept there!

I would be mad too. I love craig's list, but I go to the pet section everyday, I'm amazed at the rehoming of pets, for reason that are kind of lame. I could never give up my babies. I'll say a prayer that he goes to a good home.

I am going to try and get in contact with her again hopefully she will give him back. the only reason I didnt ask for a fee is because I wanted the money to go to him. He wasnt my dog anyhow I didnt feel right about taking money that I didnt deserve. I feel like an idiot, like I did the wrong thing. I keep thinking what if I picked a different person. I am making myself depressed and I cant snap out of it. I am an animal lover and I cant understand how some people are like this. I just feel horrible.

Please don't use Craigslist.
Maybe you could convince a vet in the area to take it as an office cat, otherwise I don't know.

About the cat, she will do it ok in a no dogs home... cats are very smart and easy to train... it will be no problem!

I wrote her and asked if she still had him, she said she does. I told her I found a great home for her and I would like to re-home her there if she would give the dog back. I haven't heard back from her yet, so I am hoping she will give him back. Please pray for the little guy!!

That is disgusting..not jumping on you or trying to hurt your feeling but that is why most ask for a fee so they can weed out people like that. That can be big business getting a dog for free and rehoming them for a fee. Sad that she is doing that. I would take the dog back and call the rescue at worst becasue their home will be well screened.

Your vet is the best place. Most vets office take them and keep them there. You would be suprised how many cats get rehomed that way. People lose their pets and the vets will ask them if they would live to give a new cat a home. I have seen my vet do it a bunch of times...very successful for them all.

I was going to suggest the very same thing! A vet up the road from me rehomes animals all the time. You poor thing, it is obvious how much you treasure animals. Please don't feel guilty, you thought you were doing the right thing and got duped by an unscrupulous individual. I hope you are successful in retrieving that silky so that you have the chance of selecting the perfect new forever home. I was wondering about puppyfind.com - SO many folk go there looking for a pet. If you asked just a nominal fee for the dog, but made it a condition that you wanted to meet prospective parents. I think you could find a great home. Or, maybe one of our members here would know of another "safer" place than Craig's List.

I hope you get him back. I think it is a good idea to never advertise a dog for free. Even if you don't want a penny. You could advertise a price, interview people and when you find the perfect home you could waive the fee. JMO.:)

I did say there was a re-homing fee and I waived it when I met the woman, I thought she was a nice lady. now I feel like an idiot. I just want one more chance to find him a good home. I know i'll be more careful this time. I just pray I can get him back.

I would go to her house right now, and even if I HAD to pay for the dog I would get him back... THe poor baby! Save him! :( You have no idea what might happen next! Your poor baby!!! :( :( :(

The lady said that she is going to re-home him, said she is meeting with a family tonight and that she will let me know if its not a good match. She is now ignoring my phone calls and e-mails. I do not know where she lives, we met in bewteen. (that was probably a big mistake on my half, i'm such an idiot) Now I dont know what to do. I am seriously shaking. I'm at work and I cant concentrate on anything but this dog.

OMG - Please try to get him back, that's so sad :(

UPDATE: The lady finally wrote me back. I AM PICKING HIM UP AFTER WORK!! Can you believe it?? And on top of that one of my friends aggreed to take him!! I am sooo happy and relieved that this will be over soon. Thank you all for your kind words. I have deffinatly learned my lesson. No more pets on Craigslist for me!!:D :animal-pa He will be a happy fella when I pick him up and put him in the home he should have been in.

I am SO HAPPY things worked out for you and for the doggy as well!! I dont go on craigslist that much, so I dont know the rules, but can you post a BIG HUGE warning in the pet section of craigslist telling everyone of your experience and to BE CAREFUL!! Then maybe it wont happen to someone else and the dogs are sure to go to good homes......just a thought....but certainly dont post your experience until after that horrible person returns your dog to you!!! Sad to say that people will do anything for a dollar. Sounds like to me she was just trying to make some cash off him. Wonder how many times she has done that? There are some sorry people in this world.
