I plan on putting a posting up warning people about my experience....I am just so happy it turned out ok (knock on wood, since I do not have him back just yet) hopefully it will change some people's minds about re-homing on Craigslist. I would have kept him myself if I was in my house. I am living with my parents until everything goes through with a house my and my husband are buying. I am just in total shock over all of this. I think the lady changed her mind because how persistent I was about getting him back. I probably sent 30 e-mails today just to her. Maybe it scared her, or maybe she found her conscience. Whatever it is I'm glad it worked. Thank you all so much!! |
This is such a shame that this person is trying to get money for this little free one. If I were you I would go right back to her and demand the dog back. And/or contact Graigslist and tell them what she is doing. Then find a rescue group to take this little one and hopefully he will be placed in a foster home. Thank goodness no one has taken him from her yet. Just image if someone got him for training fighting dogs. Wishing you luck in taking him back. |
I hope you have him back by now. Please don't feel like an idiot, you thought she was a nice person that would give the dog a good home, it's not your fault she was just getting the dog to make some money off of him. It's so hard to trust people anymore. I would have been worried sick if I were you. Pam |
Oh, I sure hope she does give him back.!!! I too hope everything goes smoothly for you. Wishing you the best of luck. |
Let us know when you have him back! This isn't your fault ... you did the right thing and it's the problem with people out there taking advantage and being selfish a-holes!!! |
awwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwww. I am so glad that you got him back!!!! and I am glad that your friend can keep him :) |
glad to hear you will be getting him, perhaps you can find a better home. This lady sounds really shady to me. |
I am originally from Cincinnati, and still have a lot of family there...I was going thru my mind of who might be interested and was so glad when you posted she was going to give him back and you in turn to your friend. I am soo happy that it worked out for you. You have taken very good care of this little fella!!:) He was lucky having you on his side!!! |
wow It looks like she sure scammed you. NEVER give a pet away without asking for some amount of $. Even a small amount will discourage something like this. Also, if it ever comes up again, draw up a simple contract. Be sure it states that if the dog does not work out with them, it MUST be returned to you. I just hope the dog gets a good home in the end. :animal-pa |
3 Attachment(s) Latest Update: I got him back!! I re-homed him to a friend of the family, she fell in love with him the instant she saw him. It was an amazing feeling to see her face when she first laid eyes on him. I attached some pictures of him (hopefully it will work) this was in the car ride leaving the crazy womans house. Thanks to everyone and your advise!! |
thank goodness. I paid $250 for a Westie on craigslist (my Breezy). I don't think people have any objection to paying an "adoption fee". It weeds out the riff raff. Just say "no" to giving away pets on CL. |
Oh, that is disgusting! I would be so worried where my baby ended up as she is clearly trying to make a buck. |

Oh, just saw this, didnt go through all of the posts. How did you get him back? |
It took some convincing but I finally got the lady to agree to give him back to me. I told her I had a perfect home for him and i guess she felt bad so she gave him back. |
wooooohooooo! I am so glad you got him back and found a real HOME for him. He is precious!!! |
