can i clean with bleach around yorkie? i'm hopefully going to be getting a yorkie in a month or so and am curious if i can still clean with bleach around a yorkie. i'm a bit of a clean freak and use bleach on everything including floors and am worried if this is bad for the dog...any ideas? |
Bleach can be bad for Yorkies if ingested. I know Franklin loves to lick EVERYTHING. You can probably still clean but I'd suggest keeping him away from those areas until the bleach is completely dry. Maybe not even then, but I'm not sure.. Maybe you can switch to a safer cleaner? We use Method products which are all completely organic and natural. |
odoban is the best to clean with, mix with a squirt of dawn works great and smells wonderful...they use odoban in hospitals even kills HIV!! |
please don't use bleach. it leaves a toxic residue. try simple green or vinegar on the floors. |
In addition to being toxic, bleach has similar smell to dogs as their own urine, so it could halt potty training |

I always use vinegar on my hardwoods and tile. Cleans wonderful and when dry you cannot smell the vinegar. I wash my windows with it also. Best thing is it not expensive and doesn't dry out your hands. And is yorkie safe!:) |
wow ...thank you SO much for the help! glad i'm getting all this sorted out BEFORE i get the furbaby! |

I hate to disagree with everyone, but bleach (chlorine) is one of the safest products you can use. It's a great disinfectant, unlike the other products mentioned. Vinegar for example will clean certain things, but it doesn't disinfect them. Certain areas you just want to clean, for example wood floors. Other areas you want to disinfect, such as bathrooms, and kitchen counters. Quote:
The bad thing about chlorine bleach is that you can't use it on certain materials, certain fabrics are not chlorine safe, for example. |

I've moped with water and a little bleach (enough to disinfect, not harm) for 48 years without any problems. I love clean too, but I don't like suds. Products that make suds usually leave a dull film. |
