HELP! Katie is eating my hair! When I go to bed at night, Katie sleeps RIGHT next to my face on top of my pillow. Sometimes I wake up because I can feel her nibbling on my hair. When she poops, the poop hangs out of her butt by a long strand of hair and she runs around w/ it dragging behind her. It's so hilarious! But I need to stop this! I'm sure this is somehow dangerous. I don't want to keep her off our bed at night because she and Codie have been sleeping with us since the first day we got them. What can I do? Hewwo evewyone! Dis is lil Katie. I sneeked onto mah mama's puter when she went potty! Tee hee! I weally wike da taste of her haiw - dis so yummy to mah tummy! Plwease don't hewp her wearn how to stop me fwom eatin it! Wuv Katie. PS - Pwease don't teww me mama that I powsted. Hee hee! :animal-sm |
Maybe you can spray your hair with apple bitter before you go to sleep ;) :D :D :D :D :D :D :D :D |
Maybe wear your hair up at night? I don't know - that's a wierd one!! Good luck to you! |
Maybe I should braid it or wear it in a bun. But I hate sleeping w/ stuff in my hair. But I'll have to make the sacrifice for her. I'll give it a try tonight. Bitter apple in my hair? LOL! Then I'd stink! :D |
Sorry I couldn't resist :D I have no idea :( I'm no help! |
WOW how strange ... thats funny about the bitter apple .. i dunno about that one .. well only do it if you wash your hair in the morning ..lol chicle doesnt eat my hair out of my head but the strands that fall on the floor and the ones that escape when i sweep up the apt., tends to appear in his poop .. ALL THE TIME till htis day .. my poor baby .... can this be bad for them in the long run??? |
I would think eating hair is bad for them but I don't know for sure. |
Cloey and Ginger do this too LOL.. Cloey is the one who sleeps on top of my pillow on my head and nibbles on my hair.. I can't put it up though because it's so short.. so i'm not of any help! |
Vet Just got off the phone w/ my dog's vet. He said it can't hurt them - as long as they don't eat LARGE amount and choke. But it is just like a cat having a hair ball. He said it's common for dogs and cats to eat human hair. Go figure! Oh well, chow down Katie! LOL :D |
Keno used to try eating my hair, but he has stopped since he has gotten older. |

good to know THANKS!!  |
I think Katie and Coco are twins! Coco does the same thing but I just move my hair to the side that she's not on. If it gets really bad, I sternly look her in the eye and say no, and wave the bitter apple spray around. Yea, she stops immediately!..haha ...but she also has a hair fetish. |
What's up w/ these little ones chowing down on hair? I just bit a piece of my hair and it tastes bland. hee hee! :D |
How old is Katie? Cookie used to do this all the time when she was a puppy. And yes, she too would run from her poop that drug behind her on my long strand of hair . But now she's nearly 1 year and she doesn't do eat my hair anymore. My best bet to you is pull your hair up in a pony tail at night. But that can't be too comfortable :( ... |
I had to laugh when I saw this thread! Daisy does the same thing to me, after several times of telling her NO and also using the spray she has now stopped. Silly little pups! |

That is tooo funnyyy! C'mon over Katie, you and me, we're going drinking out. I will get you virgin margaritas, don't worry. |
I'm cowin ower to see you an Coco! Can we aswo hawe sum gween appwe mawtinis?? Viwgin, of couwse. :D |
:grin2: When I first got my pomeranian, I had the same problem. One time the vet even saw his poop hanging (eew, i know) from his behind because my hair was still stuck inside. Now my lil Pickles chases Monkey and grabs on to a portion of his hair. When he jumps up in the couch naturally it leaves traces of fur in Pickles' mouth. I found a hairball once and even found Monkey's hair in her poop. yikes! |
AHHH Little Bruce does this too! It is funny but it is actually damaging my hair!I have yet to be able to solve the problem any other way but distracting him with something else. I have also found always wearing my hair down helps, because he likes to try to remove rubber bands and clips. I have yet to see the hanging poop, so now I am a little more worried! |
Mine just started doing this too...my hair is fairly long and when I lean over to him my hair fall straight into his face...he starts out trying to lick me, then starts biting at hair...I'm just gonna have to keep it up all the time! |
I have very long curly hair and when Gus was a puppy he used to chomp on it when I bent over and it hung next to him. More like to play with it but he never ate my hair. I have to sleep with my hair up all the time or I'll wake up with it in my own mouth and everywhere else. |
Brutus does this too but only when I play with him. My 4 year old daughter has hair down her back and he and tries to play tug of war with her hair! |
maybe what if you kept a rope bone in bed with you and her. don't use it to play so she gets riled up, just something to chew on. i really think that would help. good luck!! bitter apple-LOL!!!! |
Gwen did that when I first got her, and what I finally had to do was put her in the crate for time out everytime she did it. She got the message real quick, and I got some sleep. :) |
