How Do you give Nutri-Cal to your babies? Princess has not eaten hardly at all today, so my fiance and I bought soem nutri-cal. Problem is, she doesnt seem to like it. I put some on my finger and my fiance opened her mouth--but she squirmed and a lot of it got in her hair (I cannot wait to comb that!!). It seems too thick to put in a syringe, how does everyone else give it to their yorkies? |
Dont Laugh Hehe You Know How I Give It Too Misty I Get The Special K CEREAL And I Make A Sandwich With It Thats The Only Way She Will Eat It :D |
Sweatpea thanks! That was such a great idea! I just out soem on a treat, and she took it right down! Thanks so much!!! |

Pippa was verrry suspicious of Nutrical at first, I would just squeeze a little out of the tube, she'd sniff it and walk away. After a while she came back and sniffed to tube on the coffee table, so I tried again-one lick and she was hooked. She loves the stuff now-in fact she gets excited just to see the tube. It has become the treat for brushing her hair at night! |
Gucci likes it too.I just place some on my hands and she will lick it off. Also I put some on her treats or food and she will eat it all up. I dont use it anymore, only when she is not eating. |
If you really cannot get them to take the nutri cal and it is urgent to do so, just stick the end of the tube in her mouth and squeeze some(no more than the size of a pea) under the side of her tongue. She will like it once she settles down and gets a good taste. Later when she is eating well give her a little on your finger as a treat. I have had to do that many times..The nutrical sandwich sounds like a good idea... |
I also force fed it to my babies for a few days, but now they love it. It is good to get them used to it, just try a pea size every day until they lick it off your finger. Then when you want them to have it, it is no problem. I recently had pups, 8 weeks ago, and I wanted my mom to eat nutrical every day - no problem. |
Yes. Once they get a taste of it, they would eat the whole tube if you let them! :p |
Ok- this will seem like a silly question.... Ok- this will seem like a silly question.... but where in the pet store do you find nutri- cal? I have went into my local Petco several times and searched for it, finally I asked an associate who didn't know what I was talking about, then she asked the manager who also didn't know what I was talking about. He told me to look in the vitamin section (which I did, again) and if it wasn't there then they probably did have any. Gee, thanks for all your help... :thumbdown I find it hard to believe that they are ALWAYS out it when I am there... what section should I be looking in? |
We got ours from the Vet, but I've seen it in Petco near the vitamins. It's funny, both Bandit and now Tucker loved the stuff! Megan just holds the tube up in the air, squirts some out and Tucker eats it! (He'll eat anything that one!) |
I usually find it, top shelf near vitamins, goats milk and such. It comes in a box, sorta like toothpaste, but they stand it up on it's end. Hope that helps. I think the box is White as the main color. |
Both my babies LOVE Nutrical so I can't help. When I give them their heart worm pill every month, I put it in a glob of Nutrical and they gobble it up! |
Thanks! I will look near the vitamins the next time I am in there. |
I give it to Baci the same way you said but he's a good boy and lets me open up his mouth then I put it on his tongue and he licks it all up. ;) |
Nurti-cal and Sammi go hand and hand...She wakes up in the morning and she knows she is getting her "VITES" (that is what she knows them by) She will sit in the kitchen by the cabinet and look up until someone satisfies her nutri-cal craving :) We used to get them at our vet but they charged more there... Walmart sells it also :) This is the cheapest I have found it...So since there are 3 dogs in the house who use it we usually get about 6-8 tubes at a time http://www.walmart.com/catalog/produ...uct_id=3635292 |
wow tucker's weird he just takes it right out of the tube or off of a spoon....;) |

Sammi eats it out of the tube also...She doesnt wait for me to get it onto my finger, she has NO PATIENCE! LOL!! |

yep-Pippa thinks it's "totally tubular" to lick it out of the tube! I know that was bad-probably the only people that will "get" that is we children of the 80's! |

I give Nutri Cal only when it is necessary . |
Nutrical (when should they have it?) Alley is a very picky eater and will not touch dog food. I cook him boneless skinless trimmed chicken breast and I give him carrots and apple. He had asparagus last night for the first time and loved it. I really watch what types of food I give him. My question is, how do I know if he is getting all of the nutrition that he needs? I've heard about Nutrical, but I'm also worried about too many calories. He's by no means under weight (or too heavy either). He is a very playful little boy and not sickly (thank goodness), but I really want to be sure he's not missing out on any important vitamins. |
Both of my dogs love nutrical. I just squirt a little and they lick it up. |

Joey lovessss Nutrical - it's crazy. When he got out of the hospital, it was the only thing he would eat! |
Also - do we give Nutrical to our pups forever, or is there a certain age when we should stop giving it to them? |
Roxy gets a pea size every morning. When she was sick she wouldn't take it....I forced it because it was that or die. She LOVES it. she jumps around when she sees the tube as well. |
I have a ? What do you give nutri cal for? My mentor told me it's only necessary if Bailey doesn't eat, he's always been a good eater & I've never given it to him. So why do you guys give your yorkies nutri-cal? |
The first time I gave it to Rebel, I had to force his mouth open. But after a couple of days, I just put it on my finger tip and he licks it off. OF COURSE, if Rebel gets some, so do Gracie and Chester. THEY LOVE IT! :) |
