teapot yorkie? i know it sounds stupid but what is a teapot yorkie? i know people are talking about it on here.. and i've been trying to figure it out.. but i can't figure it out.. is it a bigger yorkie? that weighs like 8lbs +? i'm so confused... |
Your right its the bigger yorkies. Since the standard is 7lbs and less. I quess any yorkie bigger than that is a teapot |
well technically there is no such thing as a "teapot" "teacup" "toy" yorkie. But basically it is a REALLY small yorkie, smaller than the average yorkie that will stay small (4-5 lbs. full grown). hope that helps. ps- I have a teacup yorkie :):aimeeyork oops sorry i thought you said teacup not teapot :) |
Chachi's right. There's even a Teapot Club you can join if you own a bigger yorkie. http://www.yorkietalk.com/forums/sho...ht=teapot+club |
ahh okay so i was right.. ahaha. |
I'm currently growing a "teapot". Just came back from the vet with the 15wk old babies and Princess Meiah is 3.3lbs and Capt. Jack weighed in at a whomping 5.4 lbs. |
Teapot yorkie Hi! My puppy will be 5 weeks tomorrow (he doesn't come home to me until the beginning of September) but he was weighed on Saturday and he is already 1lb 15oz...according to all the growth charts online he's on pace to be well over 10 lbs. Does anyone have any pictures of their larger yorkies? thanks |
My Roscoe is 10 pounds at 10 months. He is my baby and I love his size, you don't have to worry so much about them getting hurt, especially with my children. You can see him on my avatar, or you can look at my profile. Teapots are the best! LOL |
3 Attachment(s) Boo is a teapot, 10 1/2 lbs, and I just love how solid he is. When he gives you a hug, you know you've been hugged! :D But he is so gentle and careful with Gracie Ruth and Yogi. He plays rough and hard with DH but so easy with me. Love you Boo-boo!! Attachment 285041 Boo and baby Gracie Ruth Attachment 285039 Boo and baby Yogi Attachment 285040 |
Big is beautiful! 1 Attachment(s) My beautiful girl Twinkle is a teapot too! :D She's 12lb....her brother Wicket is 6lb, but I think he'll be a teapot too. I LOVE looking at the pics of people's tiny little babies, I think they are soooo cute...but the teapots have a special place in my heart  xxx xxx |
1 Attachment(s) this is what a 20 pound yorkie looks like..... Hamish is still angry at me for putting him in this suit at christmas....but I couldn't resist, I dress the "baby" (who is 5 lbs.) all year long. I am going to get a shirt made that says "I love my BIG Yorkie"! Kate  |

re-create elf? I can just BARELY get them to pee where they are supposed to and not eat all the coasters in the house! I don't believe you train a yorkie, I think they train YOU. I have a GSD who does search and rescue work, so, he is trained, but the little guys? Terriers do what THEY want! but l do like the idea of matching outfits next christmas!:animal36 |
Teapot yorkies I think it is a very cute name for the bigger sized yorkies. My Tilly had 3 puppies October 31, 2010, We are keeping both boys. They are now 4 months old and Teddy is 3lb 6oz and Rocky is 6 3 oz. I was really surprised to see such a large Yorkie since the Mommy and Daddy are not that big. We love him and he has a really cute personality. |
1 Attachment(s) Teapots are fun! I love how sturdy they are, you can play tug of war with more confidence than with a little one. lol My teapots love to rough play whilst my smaller girl likes to be pampered and play diva. haha Look at my 11lbs sweetie! He is 1 year and 8 months old now! |

Suzi is a Teapot... She loves to eat. I don't think she is fat though. Her hair has grown out and now she looks even bigger. She is eally strong too. I have to watch her too, because my Shih Tzu is smaller then her, and Suzi likes to play with her, I never though Suzi would get as big as she is now. She is so smart, and listens a lot better to my son them me! Sometimes Suzi lays down on the couch with me at night , and on me. She is definately heavier then Miely. I have to move her off of me , she is so hefty. :p My guess is that she is around 10-12 pounds. Still acts like a puppy too, at 3 years old. |
My Teapot Yorkie Yorkies are easy to train. Bills is his name, always has been his name... He has certainly lived up to his name. I knew he would be expensive to keep him well cared for but it is worth it. Bills is my companion 24/7. I am disabled and he is a great friend, he keeps me in good spirits. Bills is 8 years old and 16 pounds. Diabetes gave him cataracts and I had cataract surgery done for him, unfortunately it was unsuccessful. Even as a blind dog he gets around just fine and is very happy. As a puppy he was not exceptionally easy to train compared to other Yorkies I have had but as he mellowed and learned more words he became very easy to train. After he lost his sight I taught him left, right, step up and step down all in a day. He already knew stop. When it comes to something he doesn't want to do he will look at me and I have to repeat the instructions then he lowers his head and does it as slow as possible but he does it. Maybe it is easier for me to train my dogs because I spend all day with them. My wife and I ABSOLUTELY LOVE YORKIES & Bills is AMAZING! I hope you enjoy the pictures. I hope I can figure out how to post multiple pictures. They were too large or failed. I hope you all love your Yorkies as much as they love you. |

Sorry to hear Bill has become blind. But great to hear he is happy and gets around just fine. The training you've done with him sounds amazing. Made me happy to read about the love and bond you guys have. I also love my two Yorkies. Yorkies seriously are the best!! :D Your photos have to be less than 200 kb in size. If you're taking photos on your phone, you might need to change the settings of the photo quality. Or, there are phone apps and websites that can size down your photos. You can maybe try this one: Free Online Picture Resizer - Crop and Resize photos, images, or pictures online for FREE! Or it's possible that as a new member your posts don't show up right away, I think for the first 10 days. By the way, next time you should start a new thread, so it's all about your baby. See picture below to find the "new thread" button. |
This site is wonderful. I just learned about teapot yorkies. No matter what size they are, Yorkies are the best and should be loved and enjoyed no matter the size or weight. |

Pet supply stores such as Pet Supplies Plus, PetSmart and PetCo, are stores that I use to purchase various things. This is my peeve with these stores, their doggie clothes are tagged as size Tcup or tea cup, then xxsm, xsm, small, etc. I believe this is another reason why ppl refer to their tiny pups as teacups, what the heck, the label on clothes are tagged that way and manufactures are never wrong . It's very hard to educate owners of tiny dogs there is no such thing as a teacup yorkie. Yorkies come in one size which is standard, like you stated 0 to 7 pounds. Yorkies are not classified as lets say poodles where you have 3 sizes, toy, miniature and standard. Take your Golden retrievers, the Labrador retriever, you will find many under the standard weight or height, they are just Golden retrievers and Labs. Same with the yorkie, although they are smaller then a show dog yorkie that has to weigh between 5 to 7 pounds to be shown, they are still just yorkies, not teacups. Breeders use this term to sell tiny pups for big bucks, and the breeders that breed only for tiny dogs are not reputable breeders, they do not see healthy puppies, the see big bucks. A yorkie is a yorkie, only size is standard. If it makes people feel special to say they have a teacup well, then there is no educating the public. |

I mainly use Pet Supplies Plus and PetSmart, that's where I saw sizes marked teacup. I have to go there soon to get Cody his kibble, I'll be sure to check out the clothes. |
