All of the latest dog flying issues of late have brought about some changes. I generally fly Delta so have just noted that they have change a few things for Service Animals. They want some information uploaded 48 hours before the flight. The info is not necessarily new, just about rabies etc., but interestingly they mentions a Service Animal Registration Agency and when I checked with the DOJ they assured me there was no official US Service Animal Registration so dont know where that came from.

There were some changes for ESA as well it seems.

So just a heads up! I did note that some airports are requiring service animals be crated from gate and lobby.

Very interesting but how would you crate a large dog (30+lbs)? That's not really a large dog but carrying it in a crate across the airport lobby? Also you mentioned some changes for ESA. Do you know what those are?

No sure about the ESA changes. Did notice a very specific list of what animals would be accepted. If your go to the airlines website you can probably get more into.

For Emotional Support Animals, all they require is a certificate of vaccination, a form filled out by a mental health professional certifying that the animal is necessary for therapy, and a form filled out by the traveler saying that the animal is well-behaved and responds to commands.

I'm glad airlines are now recognizing the role ESAs play in a person's life.

I like Delta's new policy. I think ESA's are fantastic, but there's a whole lot of people wrongly calling their dogs service animals or ESA's with little or no training. Delta is just trying to ensure that those dogs flying free on their flights are genuine service animals or ESAs and are not going to hurt their other passengers.

It's sad, but ESA's have gotten a bad reputation because of people who abuse the privilege.

Suddenly, everywhere I go in my town somebody seems to have a dog in tow. They always say "he's a service dog", but they aren't. It's just people wanting to take their dogs with them. I love having MY dog with me, but I sure don't take him into places he's not supposed to be. I saw a lady put her little dog in a cart at Walmart one day, and the dog pooped. The woman pushed the cart to the side and got another cart. I mentioned it to a cashier so nobody would get a cart with poop in it, and the cashier told me not to use that cart if I had a problem with it!

I think it's up to US, dog owners, to play fair. Don't lie and say your dog is a service animal when it isn't. Don't take your pet dog into a restaurant, grocery store or a food place. Don't believe that YOUR dog is so special nobody could possibly be bothered by him/her. Just be fair!
