What's your take on this....Woman dying poodle pink! Ok here is the link CLICK HERE I guess I see the reason  and it was for a good cause (breast cancer awareness) but I dunno I'm mixed about this. Oh yea and she said it didn't harm the poodle because she used organic beet juice. What does everyone else think??? |
I didn't read the link but i know of a lot of people that do this. in fact, I saw a pink poodle at our local pet smart right after I got maggie :) they don't use hair dye like we do,...they usually use organic stuff that does not hurt the dogs at all. it is just creative grooming. It was actually on the today show right before I saw this particular poodle. I see no harm in it as long as they are not using anythign that will hurt the dog. on the Today show, they had sooooo many different kinds of styles....one was done like an american flag, one looked tie dyed...it was really pretty neat :) |
I went to a flea market, where these people had dyed there poodle pink. It was horrid looking, She looked like an older dog, who seemed to be in heat..The dog looked pathetic.. And they were trying to sell her at the flea market. |
I think there are bigger fish to fry than a woman who has dyed her poodle for a good cause. It's not like she hurt the dog or used people dye. She used beet juice for goodness sakes. As long as she isn't dying her all the time I don't see a problem with it. |
the lady used beet juice, now they are prosecuting... what the heck... they only give vick 23months in jail, and they're going after this lady for... virtually no reason... if you guys didnt read the article heres a little summary she dyed her dog pink with organic beet juice to raise awareness for breast cancer... no chemicals, it's not a harsh fuscia, it's a light pink...now they are pressing charges bc there is a law that prohibits dying pets any color that was made to prevent people from dying chicks and bunnies for easter... oh she is also a cosmetologist, if that makes any difference |
even though i think the dog looks funny, she has the right to dye her any way she wants. I do hair too. Is the government gonna tell me i cant dye hair anymore now? seriously. please. pffffft. |
You know, if it was a special rinse touted as: "the skin-nourishing properties of organic beet juices, rich in phyto-chemicals" and it was a skin/hair treatment, no one would have gotten their panties in a bunch over it. The fact that it just happens to dye her hair makes it something to get legal over? puh-leeze! For heaven's sake...I'm not into dyed poodles, but it was freakin' beet juice, and I'm sure it was applied the same way you'd put shampoo or conditioner on the dog for grooming. |
communisim in USA Its not the states biz. these dyes are not harmful to animals there temp. dyes and made from food that poor women what a joke |
I think its ridiculous to prosecute her over that |
I think they to worry about the dogswho are tied up out n the cold/ heat! Laying in snow/mud! With no shelter, or food or water!!! What is more important?? Her dog was not hurt in any way!!!! She used something safe!!! I doubt if I would do it to my dog, though! I don't know if any one has heard of "Bluing" It is used on white animals to help them be whiter- I know on horses! A girl from my town used to much- made her white horse blue- her parnets made her show it in a small town horse show- he was LT Blue!!!! She said she learned sometimes a little is much better!!! It was so funny!! But she didn't get fined!! |
As long as the dog isn't being hurt in any way, I see nothing wrong with it. I think the government should focus it's attention on the REAL criminals and leave this poor woman alone. |
A little beet juice won't hurt the dog. I personally wouldn't dye my dog, but I see no harm in what that woman did. They need to find something more important to worry about! |
Once when I was young my father (who was a hairstylist) added a bit of food coloring in a rinse on our poodle. He used our schools team colors to celebrate our qualification into the state finals and although our poodle did look a bit silly, it was all in good fun and she was fine. Many of us dress our dogs, put bows in their hair, buy elaborate bags to carry them around, etc. Is it really so far fetched to use a natural product on ones dog in order to draw attention to breast cancer awareness? I really think that they need to figure this one out before it gets out of hand. |
Maybe they should spend more efforts in nailing those who abuse dogs.. by giving them huge time to serve and set some examples on those kinds of people.. Dog was not harmed... my sister died of breast cancer at 52 years old.. they need all the support they can get... I would not personally do this.. but so stupid to spend time on this.. charging her...:( |
Well, if there is a law against it I say she shouldn't do it. It is very cruel the way they dye rabbits and chicks for Easter and so I understand them passing the law. If it happens to cause a Poodle Owner not to be able to dye her Poodle pink then it seems to be a small price to pay to keep people from dying Chicks and Bunnys. The article said she had been warned several times so she knew about the law. |
I don’t know if I am really ok with her dyeing her dogs hair but it kind of upsets me at the fact she is being prosecuted. There are hundreds of animal suffering in puppy mills and being neglected in peoples homes and this not important enough to do anything about, but yet some women makes her dog pink and everyone in her town thinks she is so cruel. This is what angers me about the world we live in. |
I have a friend who does my hair, she has a salon out of her home. She has a maltese and everytime I go over there he's a different color. Last time he was pink for Valentines Day. I'm sure by now he's green for St. Patricks Day. I've seen him with red and white stripes like a candy cane, red, white and blue for Independance Day, etc. She uses food color so there's no worry of any harm coming to him. She keeps him in a puppy cut so it grows out fairly quickly. Sometimes I look at him (especially when HE was pink) and think "you poor baby" but he doesn't have a clue and it brings a smile to everyones faces. (By the way, did you know that Paul Mitchell has a line of dog products (shampoos, conditioners, etc)?) She sells it out of her salon. |

I don't have a problem with dying dogs, but I'm gonna have to take the opposite stand on this. Whether or not there are other animals in worse condition or she was harming the animal -- it was against the law and she knew it. She'd been warned many times by other people so it's not like she was unaware. Regardless of the circumstances, it was still against the law. She shouldn't have knowingly done it. :( Not that I don't think it was for a good cause or anything.......... |
Well, the article mentioned that there is a law against dye animal so she violate that law. And it said that they warned her several times so yes I think she deserve to be punished. However I think it is such a stupid petty claim to go after. I don't think dog was not in the danger or in pain. I'm sure there are other criminals in town who really need to be punished. |
For me it isn't a question of whether the dog should be dyed really, of course no harm came to the dog and it WAS for a good cause. The real issue here is that if she is allowed to do it then how do they stop the chick and rabbits from being dyed. I have see crate after crate of baby chicks that die from the dye used to color them just to make money at Easter. Some of the dye they use is poisonious to the anmials they use it on and that is why the law was made. Do we do away with the law so a woman can dye her dog pink for a good cause when she could have put a really cute pink outfit on her and accomplished the same thing. Or do we back the law that makes it a crime to dye chicks and rabbits and see them slowly die from the poison in a dye used to color them. That is the real delimna. |
As long as the dog isn't hurt I don't really mind. It's just changing the color of the coat and nothing else.... I actually wanted to buy some dye a couple weeks ago for my aunt's white/orange cat.... http://www.petedge.com/catalog/produ...roductId=51763 http://www.petedge.com/catalog/produ...templateType=1 |
Love It I rhink dying a dog with the correct safe dyes is cool !! There is no harm done. I think the world has much larger issues then a pink or green dog. It's free choice:thumbup:  |
THERE IS A LAW?? That states I cannot? :dye my dog? Please, educate me. You can go online at www.petedge.com and buy dog safe dye. PLEASE, give me a break.:) :) There is no harm done here. The U.S. is getting really scary--- Pretty soon, they are going to tell me how much toliet tissue to use and how to wipe :D :D |

tax payer money at work It's not like there aren't puppy mills running in that very city or drug dealers or child molesters, let's go for the lady who uses beet juices on her puppy for a good cause! Come on people, let's use our time and money wisely! If I was a tax payer in that city or county I would be throwing a fit and throwing the procecuter out of office! |
dye I do not see anything wrong in using a safe color dye on a pet dog..ring dog is another story of course. I do not agree with dying chicks and ducks for Easter... We had a neighbor who bred poodles when we were in the UK...at Easter she would dye all her dogs different pastel colors...it was great fun. |

Princess Diana I for one appreciated your comments. This is the way I see it too and if others realized why the law was made I think they would understand too. The cruelty done to the baby chicks and baby rabbits is unacceptable and it would set a precedent if she were allowed to dye her dog even though it was for a good cause. I feel there is a greater cause here in saving baby chicks and rabbits from cruel treatment. As I said before she could put a really cute pink outfit on her dog and been just as cute. I wonder about her because she has to know why the law was made since the article said the Humane Society had talked to her many times - she does care about breast cancer but does not seem to understand or care about animal cruelty in the protection of baby chicks and rabbits- the reason the law was made. |

I see nothing wrong with dying dogs with safe dyes for fun, but that's just looking at the little picture. I rather see no one dye their pets if it means it will save the lives of all the other poor animals like rabbits and chicks who die from this. I agree that there are bigger animal abusers who should be persecuted before this woman is, but there are different processes. This woman knew the law, and ignored it after multiple warnings, she walks her dog around so there are witnesses. The process to persecute her is easier. |
