puppy mills....
 

Ok my poem can't even come close to how good natalies was! good job girl!! but she gave me some serious inspiration. before i fell in love with yorkies and found YT, i wanted a puppy from the pet store in the mall. my cousin is very passionate about this subject and thank god talked me out of it! so i thought i'd write a little poem about puppy mills too. hope you enjoy it!
Puppy Mills
Don't buy that doggy in the window,
The one with the waggily tail.
For behind that cute little face,
Is a puppy all sickly and frail.
That dog has past that you don't know about,
Never give a miller the benefit of dobt.
The poor dogs live in pain until they pass away,
Although for them,
That could be a happy day.
They live in these cages,
Too small and cramped,
The wires are painful,
The dark walls are damp.
They never feel sunshine or grass beneath their paws.
And the saddest thing is,
They're not protected by laws.
Now does this sound fair to man's best friend?
Don't buy that puppy,
Put these places to an end!

puppy mills are bad, yes...
 

but what happens to all those poor puppies who are left in the mills and stores if people don't buy or rescue them? i'm just playing the devil's advocate. it is fine to say don't support pet stores, but are there any groups or organizations that actually go in and rescue the pups if they are being treated badly? what is the right thing to do here? i mean, these puppies are alive and deserve to be in good homes, too, not just left in the store to live out a miserable existence.

i always wondered what would happen to them. would they be rescued and given good homes? it is not their fault they were bred through puppy mills.

it's just a sad situation any way you look at it.

yes i do understand what your saying but there's a differance between if they are rescued or if someone buys them. if someone buys them you are spending a lot of money and more than likely being lied to about where they come from. eventually if no one buys them then they will go to a rescue or something where they will find a good home. if you buy them from a petstore you're supporting the puppy mills because most of the profit goes to them. not to mention if they go to a rescue the puppy mills get nothing and they have nothing to breed on. but the thing is, there is a very small chance that they will ever be completley wiped out. there are always the people who will go and buy the puppies. and everytime someone buys that breed of puppy guess what happens. they call the mill and tell them they need more. then the poor mom has to go through the pain all over again. the place we got bandit gets their dogs from puppy mills, he is one of the reasons i am now so passionate about this subject. my parents went back to get the check for them and guess what there was a new yorkie puppy there. its just that these are terriable places, you can report them and the police will get rid of the mill. but you know what the people will just set up some where else. the only way we can really get rid of them completley is to not buy from pet stores that sell puppies, period. i hope no one is offened by my post because i don't want it to sound mean but thats the way it is.

i just wanted to add. but i do know what you mean everytime i go to the petstore in the mall the look on their faces are so desperate and sad. i'm always thinking that they had such a bad start to life they deserve the rest of it to be good. there are people who aren't educated, those are the ones who buy the dogs. its better if they're educated because then no one buys anything. eventually the puppy mills won't get any one to buy then the mom dogs won't have to have babies any more and they are all rescued. its much better that way, really. because then they all have good homes, the moms and their puppies. if only the puppies get good homes, then the moms have to go through torture and pain for the rest of their lives. ok i'm done now. thank you for listening.

i agree with everything you are saying and i think puppy mills are bad, too. sometimes, i just wonder what would happen to all those puppies that are already alive and waiting to be bought by a good family. i know what you mean about not supporting pet stores/puppy mills. i wish everyone would pass by and not buy anything there, but the reality is that people are not going to stop unless pet stores are banned from selling pets or something drastic like that.

it just breaks my heart to think of all those puppies you see having to live their little lives in cages. it is a terrible thing. maybe if more people bought their pets from shelters or breeders, it wouldn't be so sad.

anyway, i just wanted you to know that i do agree with you. i just feel sad for all the sweet little animals involved.
