Blizzard Warning
 

OMG :eek: We have a blizzard warning.... 10" of snow by morning and another 5" tomorrow..... and 40 mph winds.....

How in the heck am I going to let Tucker and Sophie outside to potty in this? They have been doing so well going outside, I don't want to use the potty pads again....

I plan on shoveling a path from the back door, down the deck and a small area in the yard, but with the winds, I am afraid the snow will blow over on them...

Any advice? Suggestions? Safety precautions?

I don't have any suggestions, but I feel for you. We're in Indiana too and getting one heck of a beating with this wind. My baby is still at the breeders, so I don't have to worry about her right now. Our big Golden loves the snow! As a matter of fact, she'd rather be out than in.

Do you keep them on a harness when you take them out?

I think as long as you have an area shoveled for them, they'll be fine :)

When it is too cold outside..... how about an x-pen in the garage with pad?? It would still be "going out" which may help eliminate any confusion.

Here in New York we have not had as much snow at all this winter. We have had the howling winds and lots of rain, some mixed with snow.

Remi and I go out in all types of weather, however. I have my storm coat and so does Remi. In fact he wears that with a raincoat over it and he stays fairly dry. The hood helps keep his head and ears dry too.

When it is windy, which we expect this evening, along with heavy rain into tomorrow, we will go out in an area closest to the house that is opposite the wind. It has worked and we will keep on doing it.

Where is Spring? Can't wait for the warm sunshine!

Our yard is fenced in, so they do not go out with a harness usually. My Mastiff and Poodles love the snow too.

Our garage is detached, but that is a great idea. If I get desperate, I will have to throw on my snow boots and carry them out to the garage.:) Thanks for the suggestion!

We've had so much snow this winter and the wind to go with it. I just broom snow away in a small area, bundle the furbabies up with thick sweaters, and out we go for a very short time.:D They know they have to move it or freeze.:D

I had to make sure to make a little path and clear the area that she loved to use....

It was 70 here yesterday and now it is raw outside. I am gong to a dog show tomorrow and the forecast s for 5 inches of snow. I have boots with rubber bottoms for my dogs and wool coats. The shoes can be pricey at pet shops but they are very inexpensive atwww.Petedge.com and I have also found them at Target. Since you are almost out of time you can improvise. Make your dogs tube socks out of an old t-shirt or, if you have them, baby socks work well. Put the socks on the dog and then wrap a baggy around the dogs feet and secure with duct tape. That will keep their feet warm and dry. Put their coat on and send them out to do their business. When they come back in, cut the tape and baggie.

Hey Missy! Hope you got your bread and milk!! I don't think we're gonna get as much as you here, we're right on the line between a lot and a little bit of snow.
I always shovel a path or go out and stomp a trail around the yard. Sometimes the snow has been so deep on the sides of the trails that they jump up like bunnies to see where they are going!!

We are in Ohio and have the blizzard warnings here too!
Our little one goes in a litter box, but it's going to be rough on our larger one, Crosley. If the winds become as strong as they are predicting, we will have to take her out in our fenced in yard with a leash. She's 15lbs, but they are saying really strong winds and 9-13in of snow!!!
I would really suggest keeping them on a leash in these kind of conditions!

I have a friend in Ashville, NY. and they are braceing for 12 to 14 inches of snow and supposed to be the worst of the season. Lets hope everyone is ok in all the snow states and no one gets hurt.

Oh my gosh. Y'all have really had it bad this winter. I don't know what Murfee would do 'cause he wouldn't touch the snow we had yesterday.

Yep..... we are in that "Blizzard" area, too! I am suppose to work tomorrow and so I thought I would go and get some gas in the BIG 4x4 truck in case I needed it....... ANYWAY, drove out the driveway and started out the subdivision.... about 15 mph.... and Wooooooooooooooooooo I couldn't stop to make the corner..ICE....:eek: :eek: thank goodness that I was able to "coast" to the curb. I backed in to the neighbors drive and turned around........... so much for getting a full tank before tomorrow! :( I don't think that it looks good for driving in the morning.

We are stocked up on essentials, I went the other day and got kleenex, popsicles, bread and gatorade (the kids have been home sick with the flu all week). I am getting tired of being stuck in the house though. I am so ready for spring (and vacation in 2 weeks):)

There are a lot of places affected by this snowstorm. My grandpa in Cleveland Ohio said they have 12" of snow on the ground, and are expecting more today....

This is a nuisance, but like you said, I hope no one gets hurt.

We shovel the yard and they have learned to go quickly. Our snow FINALLY melted here and I got to pick up the yard and we even went for a walk one day. Our forecast says snow but not as much as you will get. We got that much last time. Good luck! At least it's been getting warmer in between snows so it won't last as long this time.

Yup I'm in Cleveland too and we got 12 inches yesterday and they are predicting about 12-15 more today. We have already snowblowed 2x this morning to clear a path for Izzy..she is finally going out very quickly to pee and poo and in she comes all snow covered.

We have blizzard conditions right now and no one is going anywhere. Can't even get off our street to get to the main road if that's any better.

Just keep shoveling a path for your baby and they'll go.

Oh and we were supposed to see Wicked tomorrow and don't know if that's happening with all the snow.:(

Time for movies and wine tonight that's for sure.:D

My thoughts are with everyone in the blizzard areas. We just got a couple of inches but south of us got hit. It is very cold here though and I am tired of winter and ready for Spring. Its supposed to be up to 59 later on in the week

we arent in the blizzard area....Being we are used to the snow now noones really freaking yet. We had 8 on the ground from tuesday...got 3 yesterday....getting 7 today....YUCK....Diggy tore out the back door and well the bottom step is cover so he kinda went right over it and sank!!! I couldnt help but laugh...all i could see was his lil face, funny stuff....Good luck everyone...oh as far as path for the dogs to potty...I shovel the path about every hour help keep it half cleared but the winds kinda mess it all up. :cold smil :snow: :snow: :snow: :snow: :snow: :snow: :snow:

We are having "movie night" tonight with the kids.

We have even set up the tent in the living room once before, and "camped" inside... the kids really enjoyed that!

thank God this one missed us! We've had records amt of snow & cold both here in Iowa this winter. Sorry you're dealing with it though! We are suppose to climb into the 40s & 50s starting Monday -- we'll push some warm air you're way :)

It was 0 this morning, but I'm hoping the warmth will melt all our snow & that will be the end of the white stuff this year!!

As far as taking the dogs out, if they have steps to go up & down, I would definitely carry them down yourself. Put them where you want to go & then bring them back up, so the wind doesn't get the best of them

Please push push push a LOT of warm our way! I am ready!! We had an IceCream cake for my Bday yesterday, I teased the kids and told them we should put on our bathing suits and flip flops, and lather up the suntan lotion so it would smell and feel like summer, but they just thought I was nuts!

eek that is a lot of snow. We take Punkin out in ALL weather. It sucks but we do it. We keep her on a leash and she makes quick work of doing business when
it is nasty out. We both gear up with appropriate clothing and out we go. I keep a shovel right by the door so I can shovel a spot for her in the backyard.

I've been trying to get her to use a pee pad in bad weather but no luck. I put her on it and she jumps off no matter how much coaxing. We got her at 8 months ( she'll be 3 next month) and the breeder said she was paper trained, but she only wants to go outside. A good problem to have though.

We are in the blizzard conditions here in Tipp City OH. The snow is still falling and we have 2 foot high snow drifts in our back yard. Our street has not yet been plowed and schools were dismissed early yesterday. We are experiencing white outs. My 20 year old is out driving in it in a 4 wheel drive and worrying me. My 13 year old went over to a friends after the early school dismissal yesterday and is still there safe and sound but i am missing him!!!
Now my Ollie is having a blast in it---running-digging-jumping. We have had fun watching him but he is just a mess when he comes in with little ice balls attached everywhere!!! My gosh-- i shoveled him a path but he doesnt use it! LOL
