Gorgeous Coats Hi ! My 4 month old yorkie Ruby gets groomrd often as my intentions are to have her in a full coat. I groom her 2-3 times a day with coat conditioner or a mixture of 3 parts water to 1 part conditioner. Can some one give more tips on how to keep her on a full coat that would be envied by every one I really spoil her. Sorry don't mean to sound cocky. Please give me those hi   dden secrets. |
Prouducts I like Hi...I also have a 14 wk old puppy who I'd love to achieve a full coat on... You will get much input here...Many of our fellow YT members have Yorkies with Beautiful coats.... I've been using Chris Christensens Prouduts... http://www.chrissystems.com/ These are wonderful...I use the day-to -day shampoo's and conditioner...and also the ice on ice finishing spray to reduce tangles.... Another good brand is Pet Silk...I also like this company and they will write you back and tell you what is best to use if you tell them about your dogs coat type. http://www.petsilkonline.com/catalog/index.html I just love the detangling shampoo and conditioner...the detangling spray..and the Liquid Silk....really helps make Sophies coat silky and smooth... Some members love Plush Puppy.. I have only bought the blow dry cream...its good if there is any mat...and I put a dab on that and it comes right out. http://www.plushpuppy.net/index.html Just know that Plush Puppy take a good time to come...for some reason they are super slow... ***Hope this helped...**** Enjoy your puppy... |

You can also email your yorkies picture to Plush Puppy - they referred me to the Reviva Coat for Chanel who has REALLY long hair and it works really well. I like to alternate products. I'm one of those people who can't shop indiscriminately - I pick and choose very carefully and am VERY happy with these products. |
I have to plug the CC system too. It's made a huge difference. I also use Redken anti-snap leave-in conditioner after his bath and it makes his hair so soft and manageable. |
I use the CC system on my girls, i really believe in this product, i dont know what i would have done without this product, Chelsey's hair is getting long now and when she walks through long grass she picks up pieces of leaves and sticky stuff, all sticks to her hair, i brush her through gently by spraying ice on ice on her, works wonders!! I got my first yorkie in 1984, back then i dont think these products were available yet or i never knew about them, my first furbaby had a very thin stringy coat and was called ugly duckling for a long time, then i started wrapping her with cocobutter every week, slowly but surely her coat came right, after i admit, a long time she had a beautiful full silk coat and turned out to be beautiful!! |

Hi: We have been showing our Yorkies for about 5 years and I have to agree that the CC products are very good, especially Ice on Ice. We put our dogs "up in oil". There are a lot of products for this, but our first show girl was allergic to the Summerwinds coat oil, so my breeder/mentor gave me her old recipe which I have been using since. It is 1 T olive oil, a tsp of conditioner concentrate (I'm using Vellus (www.vellus.com - another great line of products) and 8 oz of water. After their weekly bath (never brush dirty hair), I apply it and don't shampoo out. Good luck with your project! CJ |
Villette, its like a thick butter, we used to get them in the afro shops, im thinking of using it on Chanel now too coz her hair looks kinda dry to me, its not the stuff we use on our hands, its a hair product that some nations use on their hair, they leave it in for several hours and wash it out, it makes it shine :D If u cant get it there ill send u some ;) |

Your hair looks fine to me :D - Yes they should should have the cocobutter at the place u mentioned. |
To get a gorgeous coat you really have to take care with the dog. They need to be kept off carpeting, because when they rub and roll on it, that breaks the hair, they should have satin covered pillows to lay on in their beds, or they should be covered with a soft cotton material. They should be oiled and wrapped to prevent breakage, and to help the hair grow. It is a lot of work keeping a show dogs coat looking good, which is why most show people cut down their dogs after they receive their championships. Much, much easier to care for. |

just fooling with you :D - you're right - it IS alot of work - which is why I don't stress too much about my girls - they have long hair and when it stops being fun - or gets to hard to maintain - it will be cut - but for now - it's pretty easy to manage...it just takes daily maintenance just like our own hair. With lots of love and patience (and good grooming products) We all can have the best yorkie possible - and each is special and gorgeous in their own way ! |

One hidden secret that some don't mention, is to put 5 drops of olive oil in their food each day. |

I've heard you say this before when I asked about the effectiveness of the Missing Link supplement. So, 5 drops a day in their dry dog food, huh? Just regular olive oil? I am definitely going to try this. Tatum's hair is pretty but now that she plays outside with Stormie (the Australian Shepherd puppy) more - and they really roughhouse! - I've had more trouble trying to keep her hair nice. It seems dry. I use the CC products and it's great but wanted to give her a little something extra to help her coat. Do your remember a turning point with your pup's hair after you started using the olive oil trick? When did you notice that it was working? Thanks for the tip and let me know if there's anything else specific to know about it! |

I've said this before but have never had anyone else mention they've tried it.... I use the CC products also but after Tatum's bath and before I comb her, I use Infusium 23 leave in condition (which I also use on MY hair) all over. Just a couple little palmfuls and rub it all around. That makes the comb go through her hair like magic! And if she has a little matted spot, I just put a dab more on it and pick it out. Then I blowdry and then use the Ice on Ice before brushing. Maybe you can give that a try.... |

Villette..... Is your hair naturally that curly?? I just always assumed that was a perm. Wow, if so, I can see how it would take some work! Most of my husband's family have really kinky curls and some have big gorgeous curls. Thought my daughters would get some of it but the oldest one just got big waves that look like a mangly mess most of the time (she's the tomboy) and the youngest one has board straight hair. Wish you could put your order in before the pregnancy and get just what you want, huh? Yours is pretty.... just a lot of work I bet! ;) |
ok,now I have a question,if one puts olive oil in there food, uses the ccc program and use coca butter on the coat,do you need to keep them in a tshirt to stop it from getting all over the house,we have hardwood floors and they like to scoot on thier sides like funny worms, and I dont want to break my neck on the butter on the floor,so whats the whole secretmy male has dry hair and the females is fine, the male is thin and dry,so now what do I really do to shape up his hair |

:grin2: When you put it THAT way, it sounds pretty funny. I know you were joking (right?) but Tatum's hair is pretty silky when she's clean and she can be a little "slippery" because of that - just not the kind of slippery that you're talking about. DO be VERY careful where you spray the Ice on Ice. That stuff can cause major damage to your rear end when you go skidding across the floor in socks later. I've heard a few stories about it on here and have done it myself! |

I'd LOVE to have straight hair - The only upside to mine is - people see me and remember me - it's not hair you see everyday- Now...the girls are a different story - I'd LOVE to have their hair..... |

Villette, I'm the same way :( I have super curly hair & it takes me hours to blow-dry it straight. I would kill for your girls' hair! |
