Describe Your Yorkies' Personality / Temperament Good Morning All- I am very interested in knowing what kind of personalities or temperaments your Yorkie have. Example: sensitive, shy, outgoing, content, curious, submissive, dominant, independent, loving, cuddly, high energy, easy going, docile, or any other personality traits you can describe would be much appreciated! Everyone join in ....and let's see how similar or different our yorkies are!!! Have a great day!:) |
Hi! My Jamie is super curious as he is into absolutely everything. If he can reach it it is going in his mouth... if he can tear it up, get your broom and dustpan cause you will be cleaning up a mess. LOL! But he is also very outgoing. We haven't met a person yet that he has not gone crazy over. He is very high energy and loves to run zoomies around the living room and can be quite independent. BUT when he gets tired and is ready to lay down, he is a real cuddle bug. Oh and he's such a tag along. I should have named him shadow.. because he is always right on my heels in the house. Thanks for starting this thread! Just talking about him makes me smile. Can't wait to hear about everyone else's babies. |
Conner has a couple of personalities. When he is tired, he is cuddly and loveable. When he is not tired, he is outgoing, loves children and people, wants to play all the time (hits me in the leg with his toy so that I will not ignore him). He is so grounded. He likes going in his crate when we are not home, is so good in his stroller when we go shopping, and he is just such a joy to be around. |
Ava is sweet and cuddly about 99% of the time. She prefers cuddles to play time. But when she does play she is lots of fun. Basically she will do whatever. If we want a nap, she naps, if we want to play she plays. Right now she is sleeping in my lap :-) |
My three are all completely different. My old lady, 13 now, is very sensible & quiet. All my dogs, including some I have of another, much bigger, breed are in awe of her. She keeps them all in line & will stand no nonsence, all it needs is a quick growl from her when she thinks they're being a pest......wish they took as much notice of me! She's very intelligent, has always picked things up really quick, you only have to show her something once. She's very affectionate & used to follow me everywhere, only she gets tired now so sleeps on the sofa a lot. When she was young she was more of a minx & was not above starting a fight or two with some of my bigger dogs. Next is Button. he's a real character. He came to me at six months, from a top breeder & Crufts judge, who'd been keeping him to show till he grew just a little too big. He hadn't been neglected as such but he hadn't had many cuddles or one to one attention & he's a little dog who needs lots of affection, so now he CRAVES love. He never leaves me. If I leave the house to go out he accepts it fine but if I'm in another room or out in the garden he cries. He's the sweetest natured dog you could meet, I've never heard him so much as growl. But he isn't a wimp, he's bags of energy, a whirling dervish, he plays wild mad running games with my bigger breed dogs & wears them out :D He's also a Yorkie x Magpie x Womble......he collects everything....mobile phones, keys, memory sticks, socks, spoons, pens.....whenever we can't find something it's usually in his bed or stuffed behind a cushion somewhere. :) Youngest is Ellie, 4lbs of pure sweetness. She is SO gentle & loving. If there's any bother or rough play going on she keeps well out of the way. She's a real knee dog. She'd rather play with a toy than join in with the others, but she's a demon watch dog & barks before any of the others if there's something she thinks we should know about. the only blight on her life is the hoover, which she hates with a passion.:D |
wow i would have to say all of the above, lacey is kind of the go with the flow kinda gal, i would have to say she is the most well rounded dog i have ever had. she loves everyone, but is kind of shy around new dogs( although in her defense i havent ecposed her to many new dogs because she was so sick for a while. |
Hmm Let's see.. Diva -my first The Queen B, Cuddly, oh so loving..doesn't mislike anyone or anything..very outgoing...hardly ever barks, Foxxy The noismaker - barks at any and everything & everyone(except me of course  ), shy & timid with everyone else except mommy but loves, loves loves to be held Duchess Independent, mischievous, not a cuddler...yet, she's still a baby and just wants to run, chew everything and play..just getting to the point where she wants "her" time on my lap!... 1 Trait they all have is that they are Spoiled Rotten to the Core!!!! |
Thanks for all the posts-they are great!!!! I am having the best time reading these post. Thanks to everyone for their input. :D :D :D |
Chachi- outgoing,, friendly, talkative, easy to train, sweet but not so cuddly, playful Jewels- shy, submissive, hard to train, sweet, cuddly, sometimes gets jealous of Chachi |
kash kash is slightly mischievous. if i let him out of my sight for a second, he's into something... and when i catch him, he takes off running (he loves dryer sheets) :). but he's also very lovable. he likes to play and bark, especially at the cats... he has a lot of energy but will calm down if i tell him to. i love him to pieces! |
Betty - My 12 lb. Teapot is a rascal, wants to be the boss of everything...when Betty says "It's time to get out of bed"...it is TIME TO GET OUT OF BED!! She is smart, spoiled, jealous, steals everything that Juju has, loves to eat  , very talkative, gets easily frustrated. Juju-is a tiny peanut girl, sweet, calm, but has learned to defend herself and her belongings from Betty. She is the total opposite of Miss Betty! I love them both to pieces!!!!!! |
Max, my one and only is: Serious and sensitive~ if my dh and I argue, Max is right there, jumping on my legs, and kissing me all over when I pick him up. It's like he is saying "it's alright, Mommy; I love you":D Extremely loving and very much a protector. He wants to be with Mommy all the time, but when Daddy is home, he'll sleep on the bed with him when he takes his nap. Is content to pretty much sit on Mommy's lap at all times or have her carry him around. Playful, but not destructive Very discriminating as to who he allows into his personal space (however far that extends at any given time) Excellent watch dog~ the gardeners don't stand a chance. Polite and well-behaved (unless a stranger tries to pet him:D ) Very good communicator~ he runs to get you if there's something he wants you to look at and guides you to wherever the problem is (like someone at the front door, or someone outside the gate; or to his food dish if it's time for a 'snack"...it's so funny, b/c he gets you to go where he wants you and then he looks back and forth at you and his dish.... We love this little guy more than anything in the entire world:wub: |
Siu Pao or Pao is sweet, friendly, gentle, not much of a cuddle bug but loves to follow me around the house. Is a little snob because when he decides to ignore you, he ignores you:rolleyes:. Hates to be left alone at home, loves to go out to meet people but when strangers come to our house, he will bark protectively for a few seconds. Play comes first to him and then eat and then sleep. I also think he is very mature for a 1.5 years old dog. The more I describe him here the more I feel I am faling in love with Pao all over again :luvu: |
Bleu~ Oh my he is very outgoing, loving, energetic, playful, concerned, protective, alert, patient, trained, PERSONALITY PLUS! When I say he is outgoing~ He loves meeting up with other yorkies. He loves wearing his clothes. He loves going places and he loves to be petted and held by anyone that will pet and hold him... I am checking into therapy classes for him so he can legally go to the nursing homes hospitals and md offfices all the time. When I say loving~ He is so enduring and to perfection with his affection he so willingly shares with us... HE TAKES HIS PAW AND PUTS IT ON OUR FACE WHILE HE KISSES AWAY....I wanted a kisser. I got one.. He is a good kisser. He loves to share Ice cubes with me and daddy . He loves it on his back. He is very comfortable on his back. He loves for you to rub his belly and he will paw at your hand and rub his face up against your body if he is laying beside to to tell you to rub him.. It is precious.... He loves to nuzzle up underneath the chin too or on your shoulder in the car. When I say energetic~ Oh my that is a understatement. Nothing has ever slowed him down not even major surgery other than the week of his surgery I thought we were going to lose him:( When I say playful~ Oh my he loves to play.. He loves running up my chest and clinging for dear life. He loves his nasty human sock and his chamo bone.. He loves to play chase and hide and seek.. He loves the hand game he will dig and dig for my hand under the covers I love watching him dig :D When I say concerned~ He does not like when hubby is massaging my back he thinks he is hurting me:rolleyes: He also will come and get me and if I do not follow him right away he tilts his head and looks at me like come on mommy. When I say protective~ I say WHO IS IT OR WHAT IS IT and he is in my lap barking LOUD and FEROCIOUS HA! Nobody is getting his mommy! When I say alert~ I can be up at 3:00 am in the morning and he is wide awake no matter how quiet I am:rolleyes: When hubby comes home from work and he hears the garage start to open he is up and head tilted and tail wagging ready to meet da~da~ When I say patient~ He is so patient when feeding him and he never snatches he is very easy and does not like food to be on him he is very clean about himself. He also is patient in our training. He does so well. You can tell when he knows he messed up cause he quickly does what he is suppose to do.. I UNDERSTAND HIS LANGUAGE! When I say trained~ Sit shake high5 rollover 10 jump left right put toys up come stay drop it speak talk to mama sock ect... we are working on more...but the best of all is Bleu boy prays.. He gets on the side of his bed head down and when he hears amen he pops his head up.. that is my most favorite:thumbup:It is also an original I learned from my mom I have never heard of anyone elses dog doing it but I have seen pictures.. |
Jeanie is a joy! She is so friendly to everyone and everything. She just wants to meet and greet everyone on our walk - big small, she loves them all. She is very playful. She plays fetch morning, noon and night. First thing in the morning she has squirrel in her mouth, at the end of the night she still has squirrel in her mouth. Loves to play with the cat. Loves to be the boss of the cat too - thinks she owns the cat I think. Doesn't really bark much at all, except at night when she "thinks" she hears something, and I think she is protecting us. Only likes to cuddle first thing in the morning, and last thing at night. And in the car (I love car time, it's our best cuddle time when hubby is driving us somewhere, she will cuddle and sleep in my lap). She's a great "take everywhere" dog, as she is quiet as a mouse in her carry case........no one ever knows we have her. She is a brat when it comes to discipline. Will run away when I call her, hide behind corners when I need to get her to brush her, fights brushing all the way - her hair and her teeth - but will let me do it. Keeps her bows in at least............usually looks tidy. Although I will brush her face, and put her bow in, and she will promptly run it along the carpet and mess it all up, ending up looking like I didn't do anything. She is very discreet about going potty, and doesn't like to do it on her walks, or if anyone is watching her. She dresses up like a little princess, and looks so pretty when she is in her pretty outfits. My baby is the love of my life......and I can't imagine loving any animal or human being for that matter more. I love her character and just get such a kick out of her. She makes me laugh, cry and worry (I worry so much about her, never want to lose her). I watch her on the pet cam during the day as she inquisitively looks out the window, waiting for something to happen. She's a beautiful spirit. Loving reading about all of your babies - keep em coming..........:) :) |
Banjo is a sweetie! He loves everyone, he sees, every animal he see's although, being so yound he has not been around a lot of other animals! He still sleeps a lot, but when he is in high engery time- watch out! Then he falls over and if out like a light! LOL! He is a big drinker! So if he is out of water- he sits in front of it and barks- and i fill it 2 times a day w/ frsh- and I have gotten him 3 different water bowls since Nov- each bigger!!!! He likes treats better than food , I think! Any one try and sneak in the kitchen- he hears you- and here he comes! Are you eating anything- have you dropped a crumb?? Did you put something in Mirc?? Did you feed the CAT??????? SO, WHERE IS MINE! He is a sweety, 95 % of the time- we got to get the bitting my hands thing down better though! And he is knows sit! Shake! He knows no bite, but he does always obey that! I love my little boy, Banjo!!! |
Rusty's personality Rusty has always been a good baby. Up until he was over 1 year old, he went to work with me every day and stayed in a playpen or was on a leash around the office. He was very easy to housetrain and teach tricks. He is very laid back, curls up and sleeps alot except on the weekends. He loves to take trips and go camping or exploring etc. He is friendly to cats and big dogs and all humans. He will share toys and food. He loves everyone, except those that walk by our house. He lets me know if someone is walking by. All in all he is very sweet! |
Penny is cuddly, especially when tired. She will climb on my leg to be picked up. Flops on my chest and is out. Happy. When we come home she is so happy I am afraid she will hurt herself wiggling. Energetic and playful. VERY! She loves playing with her toys and her best friend is the cat. They roll and run thru the house like crazy. Friendly. She loves everyone she meets. She is such a sweetie. I love her to pieces.:animal36 :animal-pa :aimeeyork |
1 Attachment(s) Pixie is super shy until she gets comfortable with you. She is a lap dog to the extreme! She also loves finding patches of sunlight to sleep in around the house. Her favorite game is to be chased and she lives for riding in the basket on my bike. All I have to do is say "Let's go for a bike ride" and she practically jumps through the harness to get it on. I can't say it until I'm ready to go out the door or she will not let me get more than 1 inch from her. Here is a picture of her all ready to go! |
Franklin has his days. Sometimes, he loves to spend his days laying on my lap while I'm watching TV, doing homework, or on YT of course. ;) Most of the time though, he's pretty independent. Usually when I first let him out after being penned for a while (like in the morning or when I come home from class) he's content to sit on my lap and chew on his bully stick. After about.. 40 minutes of that, he likes to get up and explore. He is VERY curious. At first, he'll play quietly with his toys but then gets mischievous. He enjoys jumping off the couch over my barriers and running upstairs. Once he gets bored of destroying my apartment, he likes to bother me. He'll bark and me and bite at me until I pay attention to him. We are working on discouraging this behavior but he's just a puppy so I'm not concerned. Usually late in the evening, he gets the zoomies and is EXTREMELY high energy. After he calms down he likes to cuddle on the couch next to me and fall asleep. If we go on a walk, he is curious and LOVES people. He is very shy and cautious of other dogs but will love on anybody who walks by. If someone comes home, he is EXTREMELY excited and will hop around on his hind legs. In short, Franklin is every personality at different times of the day. It's crazzzyyy. :) |
Chippy is a hyper, curious little boy... sometimes he just likes to snuggle up and cuddle.. and other times he won't stop moving!!! even if you try to hold him.. he'll just jump off! and other times.. and he's adventurous.. he'll just jump up and on and off of things like it's nothing!! such a trooper.. i get worried sometimes but he doesn't get hurt or anything so he's good.. and then when he's in trouble and he's getting scolded.. he'll sit there.. perfectly still.. next to me.. because i'm his mama.. and he thinks i'm gonna protect him.. and i do.. he's so smart!! hahaha yes i'd like to say.. he is quite spoiled.. haha he's calmed down a bit from when he was younger.. but he's still curious and playful.. he NEVER EVER runs out of energy.. and he'll play and yap and everything all day.. it's so cute.. because he knows how to play by himself!! he throws his toys around with his mouth and jumps all over the place and he LOVES TO WHINE. ommmg.. sometimes we tease him just to see him whine.. we don't abuse him or anything.. it's just that he WHINES over everything.. even if it's just like touching him.. or getting close to him.. such a babyyyy!!! i loveee him to death.. he's sooo cuteeee and then there's my sister's dog Rocky.. very smart.. and he seriously KNOWS everything that's going on.. he's sooo smart.. and he's calm.. and gentle.. EXTREMELY gentle.. but lately he's jealous of my baby so he gets a little annoyed and mad.. haha.. he used to be so spoiled.. by everyone in the house.. but now that my chippy came along... he's had to share the spotlight.. and i don't think he likes it.. but he's really pretty.. he has the perfect teddy bear face.. omg.. this post seems like a bragging post.. but um.. i think you can kinda tell the two dogs personalities.. |
Buddy is far from shy. Never was. I always felt Buddy has two personalities. His personality changes in the evening and he wants to just chill like I do. I really believe they get accustom to what you do and settle into that. He is energenic, loving, smart and is always looking for ways to challange me. The challenging is starting to minimiz. He will, for no reason for instance, deceide to guard a toy and growl at me after just kissing me to death. He looks straight at me as if to say, we'll what are you going to do about it? This is what I mean about challenging me. Of course I will take the toy and hold it and love it to show him I too can play with it. Then he forgets about it until the next time. He's great with children but hates larger dogs because he's unsure of them. He loves company to come to the house, jumps like a mad man and in 3mins is sleeping somewhere. He's a good boy and seems to understand every word that comes out of my mouth. |
Stanford I would say that Stanford is dignified, independent, cautious, and gruff (with a secret heart full of love). I believe a lot of his personality may come from being out in the wild, on his own, from time to time. As well, he came from a home with lots of other dogs (5-6), very loud children (not their fault), and perhaps an owner who was less than interested in his best interests. He does not give out trust easily. But he is showing signs of moving towards a more social and interactive dog. For example, he now wants to sleep in the bed with me and the other family members at night, whereas before he was just fine by himself in the living room, thank you. He is now coming when I call or gesture to him. And is dispensing a few face licks, more than before. Whatever he is thinking, I think he is the best. Matthew |
My Sweet Boy Oh my Ozzy... Momma's sweet cuddly boy. Loves loves to be in my lap or sleep with his little head tucked under my chin. Will sleep on Daddy's lap but usually only if Mom isn't around :D Adores getting "roughed up" by Daddy but is always polite and careful with those baby shark teeth. Is so happy and outgoing. When we come in he pins his ears back against his head and his whole body wiggles as his tail wags a mile a minute. (no matter how your day was he will make your heart swell) Loves to play fetch and glady will share his toys but is definaltely a BETA personality with other dogs. Not quite the Alpha but as his Doggie Daycare evaluation says...self confident and focused. He's always happy to greet new people but takes a little bit to warm up to them. Marches around on walks with his tail and ears up looking like a little Napoleon just adoring the attention he gets. He's only 13 weeks and we've had him 3 weeks but he is the center of our world and we feel so blessed he is part of our little family. He is 80% potty trained, sits, walks on his leash and is perfect in his car seat. His Mommy is so proud of her little man :) (I'm at work and writing this I am missing my little mouse so much I want to cry  ) |
Tucker loves everyone! He wants to be right in the center of it all, but understands when it's time to be quiet and won't put up a fuss when it's time to go in his crate, bag, or xpen. If you pick him up, he will climb up to you and kiss you smack on the mouth and won't stop until you make him :p He loves to play chase with children and other dogs. He doesn't care how big or small the dog is, if he wants to play, he will bark and bark until they play with him. In fact, the only time he really barks is when he wants you to play with him. When he approaches another dog, he does it butt first and will then roll over on his tummy in fromt of the dog. He's very submissive and friendly and it's a funny sight to watch him act this way. He has a guard dog bark that he only uses at night. He will only alert me to things if he is out of his crate and my husband is gone. About a month ago, he alerted me to a mouse at 3:00 am that I didn't know had gotten into the house. He likes to nap with me but I think he prefers his crate a night. He will jump off the bed and usually get inside it sometime in the middle of the night. He is cuddler, but on his terms. He always wants to be in the same room as us, but not nessesarily on our laps. But, when he does cuddle, he is the best cuddler there is! He is a great family dog. So far he hasn't gotten attached to a paticular person and seems to love us all equally. We just love him to peices. |
Brewser is usually whatever she feell like in that moment~outgoing, shy, hyper, cuddly, stubborn...etc. She can be the sweetest little thing as long as she is getting what she wants. She will be quiet and cuddly all evening then right before I fall asleep she is biting at my hand and whining saying "okay im hungry now!" or "okay everyone else is sleeping I want to play....NOW". And of course Brewser always get what she wants. I have tried to lay down the law and say no more, but then instead of the cute "please, now, mommy please" look I get the pissed off "if you don't get up and get me what I want you are going to be sooooo sorry" look! Now I don't get much help from my family, when my dad watches her he'll say "Brewser what are you doing laying on the floor like a dog? Come over here onto your chair":D And she will jump up and go running over like thank you thank you!!!! |
2 Attachment(s) Hot Rod is: an absolute cutie pie a lover - loves to give kisses, a sweetheart - loves to be held and cuddled, loves to meet new people and doggies-gets really excited! energetic - loves to trot and run when we go for "walks", smart - learns new things relatively quickly. curios - is always got his head down sniffing, we're surpised he hasn't walked into the coffee table or end tables and knocked himself out, courageous - defends us from the reflections in the window, fearless - jumps onto the squishy pillows and his bed head first even from the couch as I gasp! playful - wants to play all the time, devilish - knows just how to play that "good boy" act and get us everytime, I've always said that he has a really, really good temperment, if you hold him across your arm, he settles right in and becomes a wet noodle. The vet has even said that she can't believe he is a Yorkie, so calm. |
My Archie is sweet, independent, cuddly, stubborn, sooooo mellow, funny, feisty, ocassionally bratty, soooo friendly, protective (the best little guard dog), snuggly, super alert, (relatively) well-behaved, serious, but also silly. He's perfect in my eyes! |
