Thinking about getting 2 puppies instead of 1! 2 Attachment(s) OK, I've completely lost my mind. I just looked at the breeder's web page that we're getting Abby from and she still has 2 little girls and 1 boy left from the litter. One other little girl has grabbed my heart and now I want her too! The pro's would be that, Abby would have a playmate and I have wanted 2 all along and I would get the potty training out of the way at the same time. Double the love :) I always hated leaving Peanut at home alone when we couldn't take him with us. The con's would be, the expense of buying another dog, the expense of vetting two dogs and potty training two dogs at once. I'd have to come up with the money on my own, since I wouldn't feel right about taking it out of the household funds. I could ebay or something, but it would take A LOT OF SELLING to get the money I would need. GEEZ! What to do, what to do???? That would also mean having 2 of them spayed, instead of one. Abby is in the pink and white bow, the other pup is in the red bow. I actually think red bow girl is cuter. I've bonded with Abby though, so she's a no brainer. I think? Am I crazy? |
I think that if you can get the money together and have the time to train them both then you should go for it! Good Luck!:) |
I'm at home full time and have no small children. My baby is 19 years old! :) I would so love to have them both. Thanks :) |
Well.. when I picked my girls out, there was a super dark one and then one that looked like my last yorkie.. So what did I do? Brought them both home! Luckily they were already trained to pee pads so that wasn't a problem. They also were completely vetted before I got to bring them home, so all they got was a rabies with me.. Now, I also have a biewer girl... My first two helped train her to go on pee pads as well.. Then.. a little boy came into my life... and the rest is history... ;) :p |
 to you for atleast thinking about the cons as well. Sometimes we get so caught up in the cuteness of their little faces! If you think you can manage the finance's then maybe you should get them both. That would be awesome to have siblings! As far as having them spayed, maybe you can have them done a month a part or the vet might even sneak in a discount because you are having two done. Good luck on your decision and let us know what you decide. (Blaze has a brother and I know regret not taking him too!:( ) |
No, I don't think you are crazy at all. My youngest is 8 months old and I have toyed with the idea of getting another one but I already have 2. Yorkies are just so cute and precious it is hard to say no to them - especially if you have the money to by them. |

Thank You :) I think so too. What drew me to Abby in the first place was how much darker she is than the others. I know that's not the standard, but I'm not going to be doing any breeding, so that wasn't a concern. I'm just in love with Ruby Red Bow girl ;) See, I've already named her! My husband spends a lot of money on his hobbies...a lot! I think I should be able to do the same. He would support me in whatever decision I make, I know he would. I'm just always so much more frugal than he is. I wrote to the breeder this morning and told her I was interested. I explained that I didn't expect her to hold the puppy for me, that if I was intended to have her, it would work out. I hope she doesn't think I'm fishing for a free puppy or something. Although, I wouldn't mind a discount on #2! ;) Can any of you think of anymore pro's or con's? What do you think of their coats? I know they are only 5 weeks and 3 days old, but little red bow looks like she's fluffier (fuller coat) than Abby. thanks again for the encouragment :) |
I think Ruby is a keeper!!!;) Getting to sounds like a great idea if you can swing it. My two love each other and now I wish Chewy didn't have to go through his first year and a half alone!:( |
I got Barney...then 3-4 weeks later went back and got Bennie....They have been together ever since....I have never regretted it...Best thing I think I ever did for them too....They always have a playmate...Never left alone... Granted, there are days when I wondered what the heck was I thinking....But that thought usually goes away quickly.... BTW Breeder gave me a discount on the second one....;) Joyce |
Ruby is very cute! Its so hard when you fall for them to say no. I think if you can afford the expense and it would make you happy go for it. DH and I both want to add another yorkie baby to our family soon. We are waiting for the right time with the right puppy. Ava was perfect timing and has been such a blessing. I've never had 2 puppies at the same time but I would imagine they would bond really well! |
My hubby has lots of expensive hobbies, too. I also, am the frugal one. I think it's time to think about what you want, for a change!! Just think how much company you will have with your two little girls, while your hubby is gone golfing, fishing, hunting, etc. :p I told my hubby if he made fun of Boomer's hair in a bow just one more time..I was gonna get a girl, too!! Of course he grumbles, but he loves Boomer just as much as I do. Men  . And he's gonna retire this year, but that's another thread ;) Get both your girls..I think you deserve them  Betsi |
Call me a skeptic, but I never believe the pics they show on their web site are the puppies you actually get. When I got Joey, the breeder told me that if you get two at the same time, they bond with each other more than you. She suggested waiting several years because a new puppy can bring life back into an older dog. Another thing to consider is vet expenses, if one or both puppies have a problem. I think it's wise to have a couple thousand set aside for emergencies. Potty training is even harder for two, you don't know which of them is causing the trouble, and puppies learn much faster when an adult dog shows them where to go. I know it's so tempting though! |
Litter sisters do tend to bond much more with each other than they do to you. Two of mine are litter sisters & they are much more tied to each other than to us. It can make them harder to socialize. As someone said, house training is more difficult as you can never know which one made the mess. You have to take both outside & it can confuse the one who didn't do it. |
