I don't see why not. We got one when my sister was about two, and I don't remember how old my brothers were but they were probably around seven and eight, and everyone survived. No injuries to the puppy whatsoever, and none of those kids are particularly gentle. I was fourteen at the time, btw. |
yes When you ask a question like this, you will get answers from both sides. Most of the ones w/ kids and yorkies will say it is ok... and most of the ones w/o kids will say no. Your only hope to gain insight is if someone has a horror story about what their kids did to their yorkie (and there has been at least one on here). But accidents happen w/ adults and other dogs. You can't look at one accident to make your decision. You may and probably will find breeders not willing to sell if you have a young child or plan on having one as Lacy said, but you will find just as many, if not more that will. Especially since while some couples aren't planning to have babies they often do unexpectedly, what are they going to do come get the dogs you bought? lol... only the rescue organizations like the one Ellen delt with will do that (and then only if it is in the contract). Just be upfront w/ your breeder, tell her you don't have kids, but plan to some day, I doubt you will have very many problems. Teach your child how to handle the pup and since they will grow up watching how you handle the pup they learn very quickly. I think it is easier bringing a baby into a yorkie home than the other way around most of the time...lol. Good luck |
