I warn you a head of time that I may offend someone but please excuse me for I am completly dumbfounded and upset.

I have been wanting a little girl for awhile. Ever since I started up a little buisness in selling dog apparel and etc. Dressing up a little girl and giving my Andy and our family a another little companion is something I have been wanting to do for months. I have slowly saved up the money to purchase another one. But a few weeks ago I talked over with my husband decided to look into getting a rescued female that would need a home more then one a breeder was selling. at first I thought it was rediculous that we would have to pay almost as much for a rescued one as if I went bought a brand new healthy puppy. But I did understand the fees for the mot part cover the cost for taking in these little furbabies. Then I applied to a couple of rescue organizations and was turned down as far as I can tell. Why I do not understand. The application alone takes 30 mins a piece atleast. The as for things like your employer name and number and where you live how big your place is. Kids or anyone else living in your house all your animals. I mean good lord it was seriously a background check. I am a happily married female who works full time but only on the weekends when my husband isn't working so he can be with Andy ( I have serious issues about leaving him alone for very long) btu I do live in an apartment and do one one other cat. But I have heard nothing and makes me wonder If I cant (steady home pay check and lots of love to offer) can't adopt how do they find homes for them? Does everyone have to be a stay at home person with no other animals and a house with a fenced in home? I just don't understand it. alas I will eventually pay a breeder for one just so I can have the little girl I am so longing for (yorkies are like potatoe chips) instead of taking home a baby that NEEDS a home.

I am sure they have so many wanting yorkie!
I tried, to rescue, too and gave up!

I've heard the same story so many times. I know they have to be careful who they adopt these babies out too, but sometimes, it just seems ridiculous!

Have you tried United Yorkie Rescue?

I also wanted to rescue a yorkie, but with having three small children and a Boxer I was turned down and realized I would not have a chance. I understand that children and large dogs are a concern, but thought they would at least come and check us out before turing us down. My children have been raised around small animals. I have 6 rabbits that I have rescued and 3 guinea pigs and 1 hamster. My children handle them and love on them daily all of which are smaller than a yorkie. My boxer is also very gentle with my small animals. Two of my rabbits (one of which is not even 1 pound) have free run of the house and are litter box trained. If my children and Boxer could do great with my little animals I knew they would be great with a yorkie. I gave up with a rescue and my husband suprised me with a yorkie he purchased.

This seems to be a common thread here. It goes along with the issue that Ellen DeGeneras (sp?) dealt with. I emailed a rescue and asked about a Yorkie, and they told me that the one I asked about needed a home without another pet. On the flip side, I work for an adoption agency (infant), and I know people would think we have very high standards. Sometimes people question what we do.

yes I did try the United group. They happen to be the first ones I put in a request too. I just would think that even someone who is willing to pay so much for a rescued should be seriously considered. I mean hell with a rescued you know damn well the fix them before they send them to a new home so its not like its going to be a puppy mill or something. And like other I wil end up resorting to pay for a new puppy instead. ( Hubby gave permission before he left off for the military) It just makes me wonder how they find homes for soo many little babies. Because believe it or not there are a LOT out there that need homes.

If they have so many wanting Yorkies then how come you can go onto Petfinder and see the same Yorkies there month, after month, after month? If you go to Bless the Beast in KS website through Petfinder, http://www.petfinder.com/shelters/KS38.html , you will find Yorkies that have been on that website for more than a year. I inquired a long time ago and was turned down. I even had experience working with Yorkies that have issues. Went out and bought a Yorkie. Then rescued a Pommie from a super nice rescue four hrs. away instead of the one hr. away Bless the Beasts.:confused:

I do understand your frustration, but at the same time, these dogs have been hurt in some way, shape, or form. They want to ensure that these dogs won't be hurt again or returned. I'm definately not saying you would do that, I'm just saying that they are doing their job to protect these babies. They want to make sure their dogs are happy and healthy. I personally think it's a good thing that they have long applications and lengthy interviews.

I gave up on rescues too...search the local ads in your papers..there seem to be tons of yorkies that go up for sale a year due to moving, divorce etc..thats a good way to "rescue" a yorkie that needs a forever home too!!

The long applications and lengthy interviews are not what I don't understand. It is the kind of people they turn down. AND I DIDN"T EVEN QUALIFY for an interview. One even asked for my income. I don't have an issue taking in one that needs a home may have medical problems and needs extra special attention. What I have an issue is that somewhere they have to give a little. I mean seriously...what does it take to be able to adopt.

I am looking into that. The problem with those is they go so fast you have to be right on top of it! lol

When I got my first yorkie, he was a rescue, but from a breeder.. I was shocked at all the questions asked of me.. I felt like I had just applied to adopt a child. but once I got to know more, I soon realized that especially with an abused yorkie.. they do not want to make his life worse in any way.. they look at his past and just feel the need to make sure 100% that they are placing a yorkie into a forever home, they know the needs to have a back yard for maybe this dog was in a cage far too much..
I know it is frustrating, I went through it all, then the breeder was so impressed with our yorkie's happiness and how well he did, she actually called us and said she felt we would be perfect for another yorkie she had. We ended up with two then.
When this breeder got to know me, I found many homes for yorkies.. it was like a mission for me. It got so she would call me to see if I knew of anyone looking for a yorkie, I placed many and it got so she did not even ask.. If I said the person was good, she took my word for it.
So I do understand, and the longer I have yorkies, the more I understand,.
I am sorry you are frustrated though.

Try kijiji.com too..thats a good site for people looking to rehome..thats where I found poor Pixie and she is the light of my life!!

I really tried for about three months to get a pup from a rescue. I am a firm believer that there are far to many animals out there that need homes. I also work with geyhounds and placement after they are done racing. I knew that I would have a little tougher time because of the Greys, but to only get one resonse in 3 months was a little hard to deal with. I got a very snippy e-mail back stating that they did not think I could offer a good home to a Yorkie due to the Greyhounds. :confused: I know my dogs and I am deilgent in watching. I had no problem putting the new puppy in a crate for his own saftey while I work. But they didn't even give me any credit that I know my own dogs. So I ended up buying from a pet store. Got just what I wanted and he is a healthy wonderful HAPPY boy here!
