For every Yorkie female there are sometimes close to 100 applications on just that one female especially those under the age of 3 yrs. old. I have to tell you that I agee 100 percent with back ground checks. In so far as cost for a rescue. A legitimate rescue charges normally about $400 But that includes the vetting done on the animal as well as having the teeth cleaned (if needed) and the spaying and neutering. I personally think it's a bargain. Figure the least you can get a Yorkie for (And this is figuring cheap) is $600. Now, add the shots and vet appt. and add another $200 or so for that (Figuring low - i live in NJ where the prices are high) and then top that off with having it fixed. In NJ the cost for a spay is $350. PLUS the money you put into adopting a rescue goes back to helping those still in foster which are often old dogs that are not placed but require high vet bills.
Lilly our newest rescue we got at the age of 13 weeks old. We had a home visit and we had our vet as well as personal references checked out. The rescue had well over 100 applications the first day she was posted. Her fee was $400 and her vet bills when with rescue were $900 so they lost money on her. She was also given a pediatric spay (Which I have to say I do not agree with but do understand the rescue's point of view on that). We had to pay really nothing in vetting because it was all done for us. $400 was a steal.
