yorkie size hello all, I am currently looking at a baby yorkie to buy. The breeder told me that the parents of the puppy both weigh about 4 lbs. The mother felt alot heavier to me maybe 51/2 to 6 lbs. Right now the puppies are 4 weeks old and weigh 1 lb. Does anyone know how big these babies will get? How big was everyones babies? :aimeeyork |
Chachi my dog was 1lb at 7 weeks old and he is 6lbs now. |
yorkie size how old is Chachi now? :) |
He is 6 months old. |
do you think that the breeder lied about the mommies weight??? IMO i think that honesty is the best policy, a breeder that lied about the weight of the mommy (a stupid thing to lie about really) i dunno......... sounds a little fishy do you think you could have been mistaken in your assesment that she may weigh more???? the reason i say this is because people charge an arm and a leg for dogs that are supposed to be smaller than the usual yorkie, and breeders often lie about weights to achieve their ends..... how much are you planning to pay for your little girl? and what is the health guarantee like?? |
Yea I think shes telling you some tall tales on the weight also. I have another girl thats almost 4lbs and she was like 12 oz at 8 weeks old. My guess is that the puppy will be in the 6 to 7 lb range. |
yorkie size I had a yorkie for about 5 years. I was told her parents weighed 41/2lbs dad, and mom 51/2lbs. At the time i had zero experience with yorkies. In fact i met the breeder in a parking lot (big mistake) and bought the yorkie puppy on the spot. I wanted a 4 or 5 pound yorkie at the time. She was precious and we loved her from the start. However she grew to 9 pounds!!! About 2 months ago she died from liver cancer and everyone in our family was just devastated. After much thought i decided to buy another one. But this time however i would do my homework. I really wanted to find a reputable breeder that i could trust to tell me the truth. I got this breeders name from someone i felt to be reliable and went to visit her yorkies. I felt funny asking her to weigh her but i'm pretty sure she doesn't weigh 4 pounds. I'm used to my 9 pound yorkie and i know she's much smaller than that. I just think that 1 lb at 4 weeks is pretty big. She is asking 700.00 for females and 600.00 for males. I paid 400 for my first yorkie 5 years ago. The price ranges i have found in my area are from 500 to 1200 of course depending on size. :aimeeyork |
Thats a good asking price. Their weight can also be influenced by grandparent weight. How much does the dad weigh? |
yorkie size She said 4 lbs. I would guess around 5 or 6 lbs. I saw him but did not pick him up. I wish i had now. I did ask her if she had seen some adults from these parents. She said no. I felt good about her the first time i went ( i have been twice) but now i'm not so sure. |
I would ask her to take the puppy to the vet and have it weighed on their scale and ask for a signed statement of weight on the doctor's letterhead. There is a scale for determining approximate adult size at 8 and 12 weeks but it is a 100% guarantee. Usually you triple the weight at 8 weeks and double it at 12 weeks. I am not sure about 4 weeks but the member with the username femistr has a chart on her website you can refer to. There is no guaratee excpet to buy the yorkie already full grown at 7 months or more. All adult teeth in. Welcome to Yorkie Talk and good luck in your search. :D |
I got gus when he was 11 weeks and was 1.4 lb. Now he's a year and 3 months and he's 2.8 lbs. His dad was 3 lbs and his mom was 5 lbs. |
If that puppy is 1lbs at 4 weeks, it most likely will be about 5 pounds full grown. I have had 4 yorkies now all under 3 pounds and I don't consider the parents at all. I just know when I see them if they are going to stay small. Any litter can produce a tiny, it is in the genetics. I don't even take seriously the weight till 8 to 12 weeks, then I take into consideration bone structure and maybe a big meal. Sue |
yorkie size 5 pounds would be fine with me. I just don't want a 7 or 8 lb dog. The problem i'm experiencing is if i wait until the puppy is 12 weeks or even 8 weeks old they are already sold. I'm trying to be paitent but i want a baby right now!!!!!!!!! :) |
yorkie size Sue, How much did you pay for your Yorkies? :aimeeyork |
I Was told Gracie would be no larger than 5 pounds by the breeder. She weighs in at 8.2 pounds and has maintained that weight since she was about 7 months old. However, she is a beauty and we adore her so she can weigh whatever she pleases. |
