My big boy was 4 lbs at 8 weeks. I personally think he was a little smaller than that, but that's what the vet said. he's now 9 weeks and i can tell he's grown a little. his dad was 5 lbs and his mom was 11 lbs (but they looked about the same size to me), the dad definitely did not look 6 lbs smaller than the mom. I wanted a 5 or 6 lb pup also, but i think it's better that he's bigger. he's my first yorkie and i haven't had to worry much about him getting hurt or eating enough. he's a pretty tough little guy. However, i'm thinking about getting a little girl now. |
Welcome to YT. You will have a wealth of info before your pup evenn walks through your front door! My pup is 5 months and 2 1/2 lbs. When he was 9 or 10 weeks he was about a pound, maybe a couple of ounces over. My pups estimated adult weight is up to 4lbs, which I think is generous! I would estimate that this pup you are looking at will most likely be 5-6lbs as an adult, which bear in mind is still a very small dog! Good Luck. |
One pound at 4 weeks If you want a teeny do not buy this puppy. My boys were 2 pounds at 12 weeks and one weighs almost 9 pounds and the other almost 7 pounds. If size is what really matters (and IMHO it should not) then it is likely, again in my opinion, that this pup will weigh around 7-8 pounds. If this pup doubles his weight in the next four weeks, which I have been told is the norm, he shold weigh at least 6 pounds full grown. So if you are looking for a tiny, you should wait til this pup is at least 12 weeks to be more confident about his size and then times it by two. I love my boys and their size does not matter, in fact, healthier more active dogs with excellent appetites would be hard to find. I have had a total of four yorkies, so I do have some experience. And also IMO and in concurrence with my vet and the local ASPCA, dogs do not finish growing until they are one year. |
weights One of Char's two girls was a pound at 4 weeks..now at 6 weeks and weaned she are a pound and 2 oz....I do not pay much attention to weight before weaning. |
