Update on YT's oldest Yorkie - Toby Well its that time of year again. Toby has spent all winter in Florida with my parents. Being Easter is early this year my parents want to come home. Toby had a great winter down there. He had one relapse with the fluid filling his chest cavity which drained with anti-biotics. Unfortunately the vet in Florida wanted to give him Lasix but I told them no. So my vet in Canada faxed all his medical charts and then they realized that he didn't need to take it. For some unknown reason now, Toby can hear a little better as well as see a little better. They weaned him off the Prednisone to every other day. Could that do it? Well anyways I thought I would update on him. 16.5yo and going strong! |
Toby is precious. I love his little tongue pictures. Thanks for sharing with us. |
I am so glad to hear your little fella is doing so much better, and it gives us the hope that our babies can live to a rip old age as well!! You sure must of missed him when he was away though! |
Aww, it's great to hear Toby is feeling so much better! I love to hear about our senior Yorkies.and he's so cute too. |
I have a special place in my heart for all Toby's .... since we have one of our own too. So happy to hear that he is doing better and thank you for the update. |
Toby it is so good to hear you are doing great!!!! |
Awww :) Thanks for the update!! |
Toby is a cutie and still looking great for a senior. My kenji lived to be over 18 with minimal health issues , lets hope Toby outlives Kenji too. |
Yes it was very trying when he was ill. I couldn't get a flight out for under a grand. I was told by the vet that he wasn't going to die so it was good that they notified me before I bought a flight. But am I very excited. I leave on the 6th to go pick him and my parents up. Counting the days! |
Thats awesome that Kenji lived to 18. I sure hope my boy can do the same. When I talked to Toby's breeder (Judy), she told me that almost all her pups lived well into their teens. |
How wonderful that you will soon be together again! Thanks for the update. My 2 are 6 - I pray they can live health lives for at least another 10 yrs! |
Wow! That's great! 16.5 and still pretty healthy. Good for you guys. I hope Zoe is still around in 16 years. |
Wow.. I so agree 16.5yrs.:p That's amazing.:p  I am so happy that you will be seeing Coby soon!:) |
I'm so happy to hear he is doing well! Special boy :) |
I am glad to hear Toby is going strong. My oldest girl is 12 1/2 and I sure hope and pray she can make it that long or longer. |
Toby is precious! thank you for sharing the update. |
1 Attachment(s) Oh.. we should start an old Yorky club... I have one that is going to be 16 April 18..Mukie. My friend has our Cindy that is 18 yrs 3months old doing good sleeps all the time.. Her mom died at just a few weeks of 18 bladder stone. We have quite a few of Mukies kids are alive and doing good too, in their teens .:D |
Yay Toby! Hang on strong little guy. |
Thanks for the update! I was wondering what was going on with him since I haven't seen you post much lately. I have my sister's 15 y/o yorkie with me for a few months, so I totally understand how a visit to the vet can turn into a nervous breakdown. When we went last week I told him that he was breaching our contract of not kicking the bucket while he is here with me. :D Luckily it was nothing major, but we had that discussion again to remind him that he can't die on my watch. |
Gee if Cindy joins she would definitely have the oldest Yorkie. Thats just amazing. I sure hope Toby can make it that long! |
great to hear about the longevity of your babies....gives me hope that my little Smokey will be around for a very long time......he will be 1 year old on the 21st of March...... |
Thanks so much for posting on Toby and that he is doing so well. Wow 16.5 years is fantastic and praying that he has another great year. ;) |
Yay for Toby! I hope my baby is going strong at 16. |
congrats to you & Toby. Lowering the prednisone may have helped with his hearing if it has some of the same side effects on animals that it has on humans...my sister has been on & off of prednisone several times & the last time she noticed a hearing loss & went back to her Dr. He took her back off the prednisone and her hearing gradually came back to normal. |
Excellent News!! WTG Toby!! just keep akicking!!!:) |
Awwwww....Toby (and Mukie) are both so precious!! xoxo |
Nice to see Senior Yorkie in Golden Years Toby gives me hope for my 14 1/2 3 1/2lb. senior. Any suggestions to assist with feeding, caring, etc. My baby sleeps most of the time. Has a puppy like moment every now and then. Never ready to let them go. |

Basically we feed Toby almost anything now. Chicken, Rice, Lean Hamburger, mixed with his dog food. Keep him active with walks. He can't go too far but he goes for a bit. We don't leave him alone for very long either now. And of course lots of attention. These dogs seem to need reassurance. |
He's a pretty yorkie. |
