different types of yorkies? Hi everyone, I was out with my puppy yesterday and someone came up to me and asked what kind of yorkie it was...I didnt know that there were different types, I felt really stupid that I didn't know what kind my own puppy was so I said "umm shes a purebread?", and the lady just said, no there are lots of different types. So now I'm confused because I thought there was only one kind of yorkie. Any thoughts? |

 I don't think you're the confused one . . . sounds like the woman is confused. |

Someone did that to me yesterday too - now I KNOW better but they were adamant that I was wrong and it wasnt' worth a fight (besides, I know I'm right LOL) But the other person said that her mom had a yorkie but her mom had a "short haired" yorkie. She said she thought her hair would grow long but it never did. I suggested that there was "something else" in her mom's dog's bloodline other than yorkie. |

Yep...only one "type" of yorkie unless she was referring to the Biewer but not many people are aware of this off shoot. |

I have had this question asked me "is that a yorkie or maltese?" in both situations where I have had only my yorkie or only my maltese with me. Could they look any more different??? Some people are just not all that brilliant. :p |

With Bunny have had so many people ask me where I got a "Pocket Purse Yorkie"???? HUH? I'm sure you all know what my response was.... "There's no such thing!" Bunny is compact, but I know she is within the standard weight. No teacups here! |

I think a lot of people think the silky terrier is a Yorkie. The Maltese/Yorkie conversation mentioned above is different. However, I have always thought other than the color and tail they are quite similar. The "short haired" Yorkie is kind of funny :D |

Theres biewers and particolors but most people aren't even aware of that. I don't think she knows what she is talking about. |

This http://www.dogbreedinfo.com/images/s...rrierstand.jpg is a silky and you couldn't tell he's not a yorkie if you didn't know. |

My biggest question... is my 3 lb Tucker a teacup. I'm really tired of addressing that question. And, after I explain there is no teacup, they ask, well how do I get a little one like him? I really don't have an answer since my breeder never addressed the size issues. We just picked him out of a playpen of 4 puppies and he grew to his size and he is perfect :D |

confuse them worse tell them its a yorkshire terrier but yours is a special one called a "Yorkie" :) |

Thanks everyone...i didnt think that there were different types...but she was quite sure of herself that there were "lots". now i feel better! |

If someone were really interested in learning about the Yorkie as a breed, that would be one thing. If they were asking just to stir the pot and show off what they do or do not know, that is another story..If I were asked about the Pocket Purse or whatever, I would just reply " I got her out of my wallet or my checkbook!" Or tell her you bought your puppy on line, or won her in a contest. Often people ask those questions and never hear your answer.. |
