Running lose outside without supervision So many people are doing this now it drives me crazy!!! Does anyone else do this and not worry?? We live in a smaller trailer park and I am telling you there are dogs and cats that just run the neighbor hood! We have a big germanshepard next door that used to be let loose all day while his owner was at work and he didn't get in trouble till enough people complained ( nearly six months!) and they saw little puppies running loose as he never fixed his animals and they had babies like crazy. I let my shelties out to potty but they are trained to come right back to the door and they only go out for about 3 mins. without supervision. Today I nearly ran over a little yorkie down the street from my home. I have seen this little guy/girl out for weeks now just running free and he has a little dog house on his owners porch. There is no fence though and I am just schocked he hasn't been ran over yet! But like I said, everyone but a few of us in this area seem to do it!! Am I the only one who is feeling like people are getting away with to much of this. Where are all the fines and dog/cat catchers? To me it's the same as condeming the animal to death with all the traffic. Maybe it'd be different if you lived on lots of land but ... I don't know. I am just to afraid to let my dogs out of my sight, especially little Milo. |
Wow that sounds sooooo dangerous for the little Yorkie! Can you try to do something about it? |
Bailey is never unsupervised! I agree, I don't understand how others can let their dogs run free. |
My dogs are never off leash and unsupervised unless in a fenced off-leash dog park, and then they are still supervised. |
Unfortunately, some people are ignorant. It would be a shame if someone's pet had to die because of their owner's stupidity. |
sassy does not get out of our sight she is on a leash when she goes out to potty |
I would have stopped and picked up the Yorkie...then posted flyers to see whose it belongs too...there is no need for a little one (or any others) to be running loose...especially w/ traffic!!! |
I live in KS. What in the world is a Yorkie doing running around loose in this weather? Where is animal control/those who are to protect animals? That is pure and simple animal abuse for that Yorkie to be running around in rain, sleet, snow, slush, freezing temps, and the nasty KS wind! If there is a dog house on the porch does that mean that the Yorkie is outdoors all the time? Good heavens! By the looks of what the weather is doing on the west coast, we are in for another round of nasty weather. Yikes!!!! |
We live in an apartment complex and my next door neighbors usually just open their door and let their dogs out to do their business. They open the door again when the barking gets ridiculous. They have two chihuahuas that are the loudest, yappiest dogs I've never heard. They also have a little Yorkie mix. It's crazy that they would let their dogs go unsupervised, considering they own dogs that are in high demand. I'm surprised they haven't been stolen. |
The ONLY time my dogs are allowed outside unsupervised for a minimel time (potty time which ranges from 3-10 minutes for all of them) is in our FENCED IN backyard. And even then, I leave the door open so they come in as soon as they've done their business. I could NEVER leave them unattended somewhere without a fence. Even if they're well trained, you just NEVER know what could catch their attention at any moment and have then dash across the street and not pay attention to possible car coming. And as little as our guys are, they can be easily missed by someone driving and get hit accidently. |
omg! that's so irresponsible. i think it's a problem that occurs all over the usa..we were actually chased by a big dog all the way home on a walk. then i started to carry mace. |
i would never dream of this... there are hawks around here and they are always circling around when my dog is outside.. |
Sounds like a lot of stupidity. Animals get hit by cars and stole. No one likes to have to clean up after their dogs all the time but I guess that is how these people circumvent that. Doesn't sound like they love their animals that much to me. |
I live in the city and although I have a fenced yard, Demi is never outside unless I am with her or standing in the doorway watching her. My neighbor made fun of me for this, but he doesn't understand -- somebody walking by could easily grab her and run. A man in another neighborhood in my city was walking his Manchester Terrier last fall when four armed men jumped out a car and stole the dog. Demi is not allowed out of my sight. |
