I named Pebbles because when I was a little girl a very long time ago, I used to love watching the Flintstones. Gaby already came with his name as the breeder had named him. I really wanted to call him Bam Bam. |
I love these stories!!!!! I spent quite awhile on websites trying to come up with a good name. I was going to name her Mackenzie, after a girl at Rice who died in a car crash.. She had a scholarship dedicated in her name and I won it, so I thought it would be a good one... But I knew I had to keep it short, and that I don't call ANY of our animals by their acutal names... Indy=Inny, Libby=Libbers, Charlie the cat=chucky... so I wanted something cute that I could play around with. The breeeder told us that she would come to "honey", so we wanted an "EE" sound at the end of her name. I liked Roxy because it had a little kick to it. She's the alpha female, so it fits perfectly. Although she barely gets called "Roxy". It's either Rox, Roxer, or Roxy Dox!!!! |
My yorkies name is chloe, and my old roomate had a beautiful persian cat named chloe and I just loved the name. My chihuahuas name is Tinkerbell and for some reason I always loved that name for a dog. Even before it became popular. I am the type of person who will have my dogs names picked out like months before I ever get the dog. I have had Tink for a 1 1/2 years now and I did not even know or care about Paris Hiltons dog at the time and now it kinda sucks because everyone thinks my website is named after her dog :( |
We went to get a boy. We had a name picked out and everything. We were gonig to name him Emmitt, after the great Emmitt Smith. But we got a girl and was at a complete lost for a name. We took her to the groomers within the first hour of having her and the girl that groomed her was named Katia so we just gave her that name. |
It's so interesting to see the origin of everyone's babie's names! At first, I wanted to name Fred "Tyson" because I love that name but my boyfriend insisted to name him Fred because he's a game fanatic and that's his nickname he uses to play all of his games. He's used that nickname for years and he loves it. Plus, when I thought about Fred, I thought about Little Ricky's dog named Fred from I Love Lucy! It's such a cute and unique name. |
MMMM those Brownies made me hungry |
Jack & Mandy I liked the name Jack( Ok, I will tell you why because I liked the character Jacks on General Hospital) . It seems easier for me to name boys. Mandy, I picked because she had the name Tianna when I got her and my sister-in-law that told me about YT and posts on YT has a Morkie. Her name is Tia. :) and since we spend quite a bit of time together playing with our pups I figured I would change it to Mandy. It was a bit difficult at first. But she looks like a Mandy to me. Jack & Mandy's Mom :animal-sm |

Jack and Mandy's Mom :) |
Hmmm...How did Sammi get her name... When I went to look at the puppies I had 2 names in mind for a girl, Bianca and Bailey and 2 for a boy Milo and Sam... So Ivan took her (Sammi) out of her pen...and put her one the floor she didnt wanna do anything but go back in and finish her food :) So I picked her up looked right in her face and said "Excuse me Sammi, is that anyway to treat your new mommy" and that was it...I dont know where the name came from it just came out...Maybe because I had the name Sam in mind when I was going there...Who knows...But I love her name :) and when I am angry at her or she does something bad I call her Samantha Jean (which is her full registered name) |
"Mia", the youngest yorkie in our family, was named after her mother who is also Mia. My 9 year old yorkie is named "Lizzy". I got that from our favorite movie "Legends of The Fall". The girl on there was named Elizabeth, but Brad Pitt called her Lizzy. "Cutter" was one of those names that just popped in my head. Kinda an odd name for a little yorkie, sounds more like it should be a name for a dog that works cattle or something, lol, but he is a bit of a cut-up, so I guess it works. I named my Boxer "Beau" It just sounded like a name fitting for a handsome dog with a masculine looking jaw, and dark eyes who walks with a strut and looks ever so regal while doing so. |
This is kind of funny, but I named one of my puppies (just a litter name) Steven....after my brother. When we were kids, he was a Mama's sorta boy. He'd sometimes pick like crazy then when one of us went after him he'd run yelling "I'm telling Mommmmmmmmmmmm!". Little Steven (or Stevie) does the SAME THING! He loves to be loved, the first to want to be picked up, even if I have them all outside, and if he gets himself into trouble with his littermates, he comes running to me yelling "I'm telling Mommmmmmmmmm!" :D |
It is funny how you can pick a name before you even get your pet, but when you do get them, sometimes they puppy whisper to you what their real name is. |
When I was 12 years old, my bestfriend's sister's nickname was Tia. I always thought it was so pretty and named my first female Yorkie Tiah (well, that is her nickname also, her real name is Tea Leaf). The name Tea Leaf came from a book I read about a Hawaiian man who loved his wife dearly and his pet name for her was "Tea Leaf" because he thought she was very beautiful and delicate. That is how I feel about my Tea Leaf. |

Kim ~ I LOVE that movie too. We just named our son Tristan. From the moment I saw that movie I said if I was ever blessed with a son his name would be Tristan...fits him to a tee. Just wanted to share that with you, from one Legends of the Fall movie lover to another :D |
Ok I got my name for my chihuahua mix Brownie just because she was brown when she was a pup, but now she is totally blonde so now I say it still fits her cause she is so sweet like brownies. Thats how she got her name, Princess well the breeder had her named that, I wanted to name her Emma Rose but the hubby said keep Princess cause she was going to be our baby so I did but I added to it with the name I liked so her reg name is Princess Emma Rose. Well we just got another pup a few days ago and had no idea what to name him till I told my husband he was so fluffy you couldnt see his little nubby tail and looked like a little bear cub, so I said what about Koda the little bear cub from Disneys Brother Bear so his reg name is Koda's Bear Hugs. He is a little snuggly and always up around my neck so I thought hugs fit. Thats how they got there names. I also have 2 cats named Snuggle and Snowflake. Snuggle just cause she loves to snuggle and Snowflake because she is or should I say was white as a kitten now she is a seal point with blue eyes so pretty.. So there is our story. |
I have 5 so bear with me a little bit. LOL First was Pirogue. My hubby had bought a Johnny Horton cd and there is one song on it that I love. "I've got a hole in my Pirogue". It's kind of a cajun song. Anyway I'd press the repeat and listen to it until it drove everyone crazy. We were listening to it as we were driving up to see some puppies. I had planned on getting a girl. The lady only had 2 little boys for sale and neither one was very out going. The gate to the kennel run was left open and they kept running back inside. I don't remember why I chose the one I did now. On the way home I was listening to the song again and decided his name would be Pirogue and when I got a girl she would be called Cajalina. Next was Lady Galahad. We were in Little Rock, AR for a dr's appt at the big VA hospital and were looking in the paper to see what Yorkies might be for sale in that area. We found a lady with 2 little girls about 6 months old half way back up state. Her name was supposed to be Cajalina but she wasn't that type. What type? I don't know, she just didn't seem like a cajun. So we batted a few names around and hubby came up with the idea of the dog that looks like a Yorkie in the movie Labrynth. At first he thot the name was Ambrosius(sp) but I knew it was Sir something or other. The name that popped out of my mouth was Sir Galahad and it stuck. Later I remembered the name was Sir Lancelot. We just call her Lady, and she is. Next was Autumn. I went to look at 2 little girls. Really, I just went to LOOK! We were in Ar again and there's a road we always pass, Mist something or something Mist. I wanted to use it but couldn't think of anything that sounded right. I like the word Arbor but then I realized that Arbor Mist might be copyrighted and didn't want to run into any trouble over that, but wouldn't Arbor Mist make a beautiful name for a Yorkie? So, Autumn was the time of year and Autumn Mist just didn't have the same sound as Arbor Mist and we came up with Autumn Rose. It didn't quite fit but it stuck. Mr. Big, now... His registered name will be(when I get around to sending in the papers) "You Can Call Me Mr. Big". Yeah, it all fits in the boxes on the form, it even leaves a few. LOL We knew we wanted a small male, Pirogue was at or over 8# buy then, almost 9 I think. (4 months ago) We were hoping by getting a 5th generation small that he would stay small(so far so good, fingers crossed) and we wanted a big name for such a small dog. Gargantuan? I think not! Hubby's idea. And then something from Greek mythology, don't remember now. Nope! Then I remembered from Lion King, Pumba saying "You can call me Mr. Pig". Hubby thot I said Mr. Tibbs, from that movie "Heat of the Night". So we changed it a bit and he became Mr. Big. We were going to call him Yucan but "you can" is such a big part of our vocabulary that he was confused, poor baby, couldn't have that. LOL Lacijo is our unexpected baby. She is Mr. Big's half sister and we got talked into taking her when we made the last pmt on Mr. Big. Her registered name is from a helper at the kennel. "Myah's Asia Girl", I'm not sure but I think it's from a Billy Idol song. The breeder called her Spidy Woman and said she didn't really answer to anything. The breeder had cut her coat way back, twice and while I was holding her I decide she looked lacy, and the name Lacijo just popped into my head and out of my mouth. It's sort of an elegant name and it seems to fit her. She seems to think she's royal so I call her our little princess. My first dog I wanted to be a girl and have her a while before we got a male so she would be in her second heat when he was old enough to breed. Pirogue was 8 weeks when we got him. A month later when we found Lady I was beginning to worry that I wouldn't find a girl older than Pirogue and was kind of desperate. We bought Pirogue for $450 and he is around 10#. Lady was $600 and her living conditions were not the best. I would not recommend her breeder to anyone. Now, Pirogue would be a champion show dog if it weren't for his ears flop, he weighs 10#, his coat is short and very light colored. His good points are he holds his tail erect and always has, his top line is excellent and his body structure is beautiful. He's my 10# bag of sugar. Lady has bad knees and I know nothing about her background as I was not knowledgeable enough to ask. I have paid more for Autumn and more for Mr. Big and even more for Lacijo. I bought Pirogue in June of last year and Mr. Big and Lacijo the last week of March of this year. Let me say this, as much as I love Pirogue -- YOU GET WHAT YOU PAY FOR. No offense meant to anyone, I love all my babies but my better dogs I paid much more for. Sylvia |
Well, before we had even got Shelby we picked out the name Daytona because my boyfriend races cars. Well right after we got Shelby we brought her over to a friends house and no one like that name, they said it didn't suit her and so on and so forth. So, that gave me some doubt and we weren't really certain about it in the first place so when we got home, my boyfriends mom printed off a list of name and checked the ones she liked, but out of the whole list I didn't like any of them. I wanted the name to mean something so I thought about it and I came up with Shelby because we had just drove to Shelbyville to get her from her breeder who lived there. I am happy with it because it reminds me of where she came from and the first time I saw her. |
All of my kids had to have unique names. The deal was, if I brought them home, my husband had to name them. Bailey - On our way to pick her up we started with A's then B's and that's where we stopped. Ulla - After his german aunt Ulla Freya - The Norse goddess of love, beauty & war Mr. Big - Sex & The City!! When my husband grows up, he want to be Mr. Big! Boy - We found Boy, and in the beginning it was 'come boy, here boy' and it stuck. I do like to call him Bouy (the gangsta pronounciation) cuz he came from the streets Abby - I actually got to pick this one. I just loved the name. It's such a little girls name. |
My little guys name is Harley because my husband always wanted a Harley and I told him that this is the closest that he is ever going to come to getting one. He loves him to death , so I did good. HEHE. :D |

2nd one, I named Meggie, after Meggie of the Thornbirds.. the Thornbirds, is one of my most favorite movies. 3rd yorkie...Roscoe, was already named Roscoe.... 4th yorkie... Tori, my duaghter named her, short for Victoria.... my 5th yorkie, is named Casino Girl Cassie....and I call her Cassie.... because I won the money at a casino that I purchased her with... Enjoyed reading how we all arrived at the names of our furbabies! Little-Bit, Meggie, Tori, Cassie & Roscoe's Mom :aimeeyork |
names my baby is Ceeby. pronounced SEABEE. When my now-grown son was three or four years old, he had an imaginary friend named Ceeby. Man, the tales he could tell about him and Ceeby. They were so funny. That just seemed like a good name. I thought of Rambo then decided it wasn't very original and there are several Rambos on here. Also, at nine ounces, he just didn't look like a Rambo to me. |
Big name for a little pup When we were looking for breeders... I knew that we were going to try to find a little boy. I went looking for name with great meanings. A big name for a little dog. It was actually a toss up between Truman which means a man's true friend or Winston which means victory place. I liked the thought of naming my baby boy after Sir Winston Churchill. Winston full registered name is "Sir Winston of Kirkman Court". We live on Kirkman Court. :) |
our 1st 2 (Maxwell & Sophie) were rescued dogs so they came w/their names. our 3rd (Frankie) has a 1st name that reflects the breeder's name from where she came. (it was an agreement in the contract.) her second name "Frankie" simply fits her. ...a little tomboy. :aimeeyork |
I had Princess pick out years before I even had Princess. I just knew someday I would have a Yorkie, and I would name her Princess. When I found her I knew she was the one. Now as far as her AKC name, I had nothing to do with it. Princess would tear up paper, all over the house. It was a everyday thing. ( I'm so glad she stopped!) But we had a mess every day. Any way, I filled out her AKC papers with her name Princess, and our son found them, and after Princess tore up his term paper, he added Pig Pen! So her AKC name is Princess Pig Pen!!!!! Kids & Yorkies! Gotta Love Them! :) |
Bitsy's name origin~ Mother: Lil Ms. Bambi 5 pounds AKC Yorkie Father: Itsy Bug 3 pounds Yorkie/Chihuahua (long-haired) Looks and acts just like the Yorkies I had many years ago. Her coloring and temperment is the same. Not much chihuahua in looks or actions. She is a "Chorkie" So we decided to call her Bitsy-- taking the B from the mom and adding the Itsy from the dad. Not so bitsy though. She now weighs 8.5 pounds at 7.5 months. Quite a Daddy's girl. |
I got Kai's name froma "dog names" web site , It means "sea" or "Willow tree" in Hawiian...Yorkies fur kinda reminds me of a willow tree and I am a beach bum (hence "sea") I wanted to name her Puka because the second I picked her up she was eating my Puka shells , Hubby said no..Her full name is Princess of Kai ( princess of the sea" I mostley call her Pooh Bear though :-) Vegas , Hubby and I got married in Vegas it just seemed fitting, everytime I say his name I am reminded of that wonderful day , his full name is Christy's Las Vegas Dreams....But he gets called Vegas , Las Vegas (when he's naughty) and BOO-BOO |
Jade because she is a precious gem . Mitsou because she is sweet as honey . |
Our Yorkie is Fagan. Its Irish for Firey and small...It's a great description of him :animal36 :animal36 :animal36 |
1 Attachment(s) I finally got my little girl. Her name is Layla.....because she always has me on my knees...like the Eric Clapton song "Layla". |
when we picked up Edgar, his name was Dash. (the breeder said he had a "dash" of white under his chin when he was born) i didn't really want to call him that and wanted something more traditional and British for both his heritage and mine. we went thru a few names including Oliver and Winston (yep, my husband and freakin' history channel--Churchill) but when i said "Edgar" he looked at me like, "What?? I'm snuggling here!" and that was it. Ganja's (our lab) name is from my husband's teen years (we're 28 now) and apparently she had a nose and would run off with the uh...goods. I think now he wishes he'd thought about it more :) |
