Bella was 12 weeks old when we got her and just a few days after we'd brought her home she was on floor with a chew treat and I came up to her and went to pet her on the head and she growled and snapped at me. I was so shocked (I've had several dogs and have NEVER had a dog even growl at me much less snap at me). Well I bopped her on the head, it wasn't hard at all and it wasn't a consious act, it was completely reactive. It happened so fast I just reacted out of shock. Well, she has NEVER shown aggression towards me again, I can take a treat from her, take her food from her and she's just fine. I've never raised a hand to her again and if she were to show aggression to me again I would use the Ceasar method of pinning her to the ground because I'd be a little more prepared and I wouldn't want to take a chance on hurting her but a dog must be shown who's the boss and that they can't get away with that sort of behavior. Yes, they are our babies but they are dogs too and must know their place in the home just as they know their place in a pack in the wild. |
