HELP!! Have I been scammed?? I have a problem. I purchased a female yorkie December 12 under contract. The contract stated that I had 48 hours to have her checked by a vet and that she came with a limited AKC registration (NO breeding or showing rights). Well the vet said she was in great health, but at the time I purchased her the AKC papers were not ready?? The lady I got her from said she was not the puppies breeder, but that she had received the puppy as pick of the litter for payoff for a stud service. The day I bought her the lady told me she was in contact with her breeder and that she would mail me the form for her AKC registration in a few days. Well that was 2 months ago. I have emailed the lady a billion times...at first she said she could not get in touch with the breeder. About a month ago she said she finally talked the the breeder and they had sent the litter registration in to the AKC. Don't most people do this as soon as the litter is born?? What do I do? I want my babies papers! I think four months is ample time to register a litter! |
Yep...sounds like you are being given the run around. Sadly, this happens quite often. You have to be SOOOOOO careful regarding paperwork. A hard lesson learned by many that you should never trust the ole "I dont' have them yet but I'll get them to you" routine.:( |
Some breeders send in the litter registration right away and some don't. It is possible they sent the litter registration in and then found out AKC needed a DNA test done on the male if he had sired more than 3 litters in one year or 5 lifetime. The person you bought the puppy from should have kept you better informed. I know some people that sell with limited registration do not provide the papers until proof is provided that the dog has been neutered. I hope you get it resolved. |
I don't know the answers to your questions but wanted to welcome you to yt. |
I wish that I could be of more help to you. I just wanted to ask if that is her in your avatar? She is sooooooooooo cute!!!! She looks like she already has a nice coat as well. I hope that this gets straightened out for you. Tammy |

When I got my last puppy, she was 11 weeks and the papers were sent with her, but, since I'm not showing or breeding, I just throw the papers in the drawer..I'm not crazy about AKC, and so, i don't give them the money just for mine to have their AKC papers.. |

Here breeders have up to 6 months before sending registration papers . |
I support AKC also, just wish they'd be more helpful in these scamming cases.. |
I hope you get your papers soon. I usually send my puppy litter registration papers in at 4 weeks and love being able to register the litter online. |
I have been through this before. I was promised papers but the lady kept putting me off. I finally got all the paperwork to file in small claims court, let her know what my plans were and she called me the next day with papers in hand. |

you dealt with a broker (a middle man) which is why it's always good to check things out VERY carefully before you put down money on a puppy. Buying from a broker is something most of us advise AGAINST. Good luck getting your papers. |
I realize that she is in breach of our contract, but she lives in a different state, do I have to file court papers there? |

I WENT ON THE AKC REGISTRATION SITE AND PUT IN THE NUMBERS THAT WERE GIVEN TO ME ON THE COPIES AND BOTH PARENTS WERE SUPPOSE TO REGISTERED BUT ONLY THE DAD CAME UP AND I NEVER GOT THE PAPERS, AND MY POOR LITTLE SAINT HAD TO BE PUT DOWN 10 DAYS AFTER I BOUGHT HIM, THE BREEDER DECIDED NOT TO HELP ME WITH THE VET BILLS, OR REIMBURME ANYTHING, SO I SUED HERE AND WON ALL MY MONEY BACK... SORRY SO LONG BUT THERE IS A POINT, WE AS BUYERS HAVE RIGHTS ITS CALLED THE PUPPY LEMON LAW, IN CALIFORNIA THE BREEDER HAS TO BE LINCENSED AND OR BE A HOBBY BREEDER, AND THEY HAVE AROUND 60 DAYS I THINK TO GIVE U THE PAPERS PROMISED OR THEY ARE IN BREECH OF CONTRAT SO THEY EITHER HAVE TO GIVE U 75% OF WHAT U PAID FOR THE DOG IF U WANT TO KEEP IT OR REIMBURSE U THE WHOLE AMOUNT, IF U SURRENDER IT, WELL WE ALL KNOW THERE OUR BABIES SO THEY CANT HAVE THEM BACK... THERE ARE RIGHTS FOR US.. WWW.PUPPYLEMONLAW.COM OR SOMETHING LIKE THAT... |
I have no use for AKC after they put me through pure he double hockey stick a few years back.. |

Wait Wait a minute. you could have been scammed but you can contact the AKC and they should tell you (if they are honest) they are WAY behind on the dna testing (you have to do this after a certain number of litters from the male) anyway... they are way behind on a lot of paperwork. I am still waiting on some myself and the dna test just came in so now we have sent in the litter information. They are behind more than they have ever been according to a few breeders. So, you could be getting the run around but it also could be that. |
The puppy you got is called a "breeder back" puppy, I believe. It's fairly common to get a puppy from a litter instead of a stud fee. Since your puppy came with limited registration, I assume there was also a spay/neuter agreement. Most reputable breeders will hold the papers until receiving proof of the spay or neuter. If you dealt with a reputable breeder, all this is routine and you shouldn't have any problem getting the papers. It does sound like you've been getting the runaround, though, so this breeder may not be on the up and up. Did you request to see the AKC papers and pedigrees of the parents before you purchased your puppy? This should always be done as part of the screening process when looking for a breeder, along with asking for proof of health testing. If all this is done before, there are no surprises or disappointments afterwards. |
I just went through this type of think with my youngest puppy Coco. She was also from a different state (Its takes me a lot to learn I guess since I made mistakes picking both my yorkies). Anyway, the woman I was dealing with told me she was the breeder and had the female, her best friend had the male. She was sold to me with full rights AKC registration. (I'm not breeding her btw) I got her on 12/1, the papers didn't come.. I tried to contact the "breeder" and she never responded back to me. I filed a dispute with paypal and she actually lied about talking to me on the phone and said that she told me there was a hold up with the papers, she had never given me the micro chip information either. I was able to get the litter number and micro chip number from her through there. When I moved it to a claim paypal closed it right down so I figured I would never see the papers. Well low and behold I got them in the mail today.. shocker! Incidently, i'm pretty sure I was unknowingly dealing with a broker as well since the breeders name on the paperwork is not who I dealt with and is from a different state even. |
