Pet Stairs/Steps... I'm looking to getting one for our bed. It is quite high (28 inches! :eek: )..somehow Daisy still manages to jump on! DH thinks it's ok...I'm a little concerned. She may have joint problems or something as she gets older. She's only 1 year4 months now.. Anyway, so I'm sure some of y'all have pet stairs in your house--I'd like some info on a good company and/or any comments you may have on them. Thanks! |
jefferspet.com had a few different sized ones. I need to get one for a high bed too. I am thinking to have my dad build me one that I can stain. I want one that is narrow...Zoey is tiny and I won't need a monster sized one. |

The ones we got for our babies are called "doggy steps". We bought them at wal greens for $10. they hold up to 70 lbs and they are very light weight and small. The cover is washable also. |

The reason why I'm asking y'all is because I need reviews from 'yorkie owners'.. I already googled it and read alot of reviews on some.. But most of the reviews were from bigger dogs owners. I dont want something that totally unncessary (i.e. Accomadates heavy dogs, large steps, wide, etc). I need something that's suits my Daisy (a 6.5 lb yorkie..lol:rolleyes: ) |
My daughter has the pet steps for her old kitty. Murfee wouldn't use them. We got them at Linen's and Things. I went to Ikea and got a small storage unit with a cushion on top. That way he jumps on that and then the bed. Oh and also my husband lowered the bed by about 6 inches. Good luck. |
They are so spoiled:p But for a while I was just placing treats all over the steps and I was on top of the bed...If she did it correctly I rewarded her and allowed her to pick up the last treat! It was not easy...Trust me this one goes on top of the Dinning table:confused: go figure! But it worked and when she want to get off the bed she goes down the steps...You have to catch it and reward her!!! Hope it works~ Quote:

I can't remember where I saw them but I saw the cutest decorative steps and there was a space under the steps, kind of like a crate but they were SO expensive. Many wooden/carpeted steps in catalogs are also kind of expensive so I had my dad build some for Max when I first got him. I also saw plastic folding ones at target at one time, which were really cheap, but I don't know how sturdy they are. maybe someone has good reviews for those |
The 3 step ones from Walgreens, Walmart do just fine for my couch. They are smaller and don't take up tons of space. I also got the 4 step Petmate ones at Petsmart for my bed. My husband rolled his eyes but at least I got them on sale for $35. I told him do you want to spend $35 now or thousands for a sugery later...case closed! You have to be prepared to watch thier every move while they are on the bed, and do some training with treats getting them to go up and down. |
Our bed is over 30 inches high. We put our Yorkie up there with us sometimes in the evening. He knows if he keeps jumping down he'll go to timeout back in the crate. So by now we don't need steps. :D |

We have the doggy steps too. Jack uses them, but Rosie and Gracie learned to jump before we got them, and they won't use the steps at all. These steps are perfect for little dogs. We have a couple of labradors, and I wouldn't trust their weight on them despite them saying they could hold 70 lbs. I think once they learned to jump they just figured they didn't need steps. Our cat also likes using them. She is 17 years old and has quite a bit of trouble jumping up on the bed. |

I looked at the pet stairs online, but we decided to make our own. We went to Home Depot and got some plywood and found some carpeting to match our bed and room. It would be a project for the hubby, but they seemed very easy to make. Just wood, carpet, nails and a staple gun! |

I have hardly room in my apartment for ANY boxes on the floor and really need to get some steps so I'll be watching this thread if anyone has any other suggestions ps - a good way to get them to use the steps is leave a treat on each step AS they go up - Chanel only needed me to show her that one time and used them ever since. Much as Cheri loves treats I don't know why she didn't take to them - but she's kind of clueless sometimes :D |
I have a ramp thay runs along the side of my bed and it works great. We just taught Cali and Pixie by using treats and when Roxie came the second day she started following the others up on the ramp. |
