Bored Yorkie..what are your favorite games to play with your furbabies? Piper has SO much energy at 8 months! We go for walks twice a day (weather permitting). We play fetch inside a lot (I don't have a yard). We play tug games. And I have no idea now what else to do. She's SO energetic! I'm trying to come up with tricks or just little games to engage her with because she is always on the move! She's got enough energy for 5 dogs. I'm looking into doggie daycare presently...one that will specialize in small dogs. I want to send her a couple of times a week because she just loves to play. But, aside from daycare, I need some suggestions for playtime at home. So...what are some games/tricks/activities your babies like? My thought is that if I keep her occupied she will be more apt to stay out of trouble. I swear, having a Yorkie is so much like having a toddler. :-) |
Lil' Miss Izzie loves to play Hide n Seek.....I tell her to sit n stay in the kitchen while I hide a few of her toys in the living room, then I will call her and tell her to go find a specific toy....she goes nuts trying to find out where I put it....but I am quickly running out of hiding places as she is finding them all.... |
Brooklyn will play fetch forever. He likes Kongs filled with treats. He and the cat play together a lot too. Britney just prefers laying in my lap. :p |
Chase !! I pretend I'm after his toy & chase him. He runs forever through the dining room & through the house waiting for me to catch him wherever he is. He wears me out trying to get his toy he's carrying. |
We play hide and seek with our two babies. Usually I have hubby wait upstairs with them and then I hide somewhere downstairs. Then we get them excited to "go find Mommy!!!!" and they tear down the steps and search for me, then when they find me we all dance around...they are really good at it! :) Wow, just realized that if I mentioned this to someone "outside of Yorkie world", they might think I was a bit coo-koo!!! |

The boys like their squeaky toys and will play fetch with them. They also love Amber's krackle jax toys, twist and treat, hide-a-squirrel, basically anything they have to dig stuff out of. Otherwise they sleep, or sit in the window waiting for stuff to go by to bark at. |
Ah, that brings back memories. I remember thinking Eddie would never get over that stage. Fortunately, he started mellowing out at about a year. He still has a lot of energy, but a couple walks a day make a difference. You might try some more brain games. They tend to tire them out too. Teach some basics. Sit. Down. Stay. Then come up with some tricks. Shake. Roll over. Whatever. If you spend 5 minutes three times a day, they'll learn a lot, have fun and tire themselves out to boot. Check into an obedience class too. We also play chase games, but it's hard to beat fetch. You get to sit while they do all the running. |

odie really just loves to bite! we'll put workin gloves on and he goes absolutely NUTS attacking our hand! i swear he would bite for days if we let him =] |
Rusty likes to play Mouse Under the Covers Rusty loves to play Mouse Under the Covers... after we eat our evening meal, he will sit and whine for me to follow him, and he goes and jumps on the bed. I stick my hand under the covers and move it around like a mouse. Rusty leaps, jumps, pounces on the mouse and play bites it, while I move the mouse around under the covers. He play growls or digs etc, just like my hand was a real mouse. I think he knows it is only my hand but you never know. |
Hide n Seek is very good game for play. I like this game very much. ............ Online Fighting Games | Puzzle Games Online |
Buddy will sometimes fetch a ball 3 times, then he loses interest, wont play on his own very often, need interation, why i dont know, but I have found something he does like, old card mediciene box, empty of course, put a few treats in and depending on the ends, I either seal with a little tape or leave, then give it to him, the enjoyment he gets trying to get to his favourite treats, as they rattle about, he loves it |
I hide her balls under a blanket and squeek them, she will dig pull tug etc till she gets the ball, she will play this forever, the digging at the blanket and pulling tires her out sooo much she is panting after a 20 minutes... |
Isabella & Masten Isabella love to fetch. I made the mistake of buying the small tennis balls for her. Very easy for her to handle since she is so small-5lbs. The problem is she drops them and under the sofa they go. She will stand and stare at me until I get down on my hands and knees and get them for her. Masten has a rooster that he loves. The minute I get home he runs and gets Rooster and plays with it all evening. He will spend an hour running around the house with Rooster. |
Agree with everyone else and want to agree with Mike on the trick training. On a rainy, boring day... nothing beats wearing Jackson out mentally than a few trick training sessions! We do at LEAST 10 minutes per night but usually it's more. He loves it (we use clicker training) and it's mentally draining to do it. We also do the chase and hide/seek type games as well. :) |
We only have a very small yard, too. Pepper likes to play 'fetch the ball' along the side of the house. When it is raining, we play the same indoors in the living room, but then with a cat's tunnel. This makes it more interesting for him, since our room is rather small. Pepper runs through, around, under, behind... the tunnel, and has 'a ball'! And I enjoy this game, too. I practise my accuracy in throwing the ball around or over Pepper (who is usually dancing right in front of me), aiming at the 2 holes cut in the side of the tunnel. |
laser light!!!!! bring out the laser light oh boy oh boy. i dont care about your milk bone just give me the laser light! |
Lazer light! I also teach my dogs tricks not to have them perform (okay that's fun too) so they are mentally stimulated via learning... started with the usual sit stay roll over and obedience and turned into dance, walk, wake up the kid with kisses, getting them to identify their toys and bring me various ones, holding a toy and having them find it...fun for the kids and myself. Agility basics too, up over under... |
as i've said a million times, and yes it is still true, princess loves to play fetch! i usually don't mind, but sometimes she asks me at the most inappropriate times! lol. i also chase :animal37her and make these "scary" sounds, we both get exercise doing this! she gets so worked up she'll try to grab anything she can to start running with::doghop: a big boot, a rug, full sized blanket, shoe, sock, wii remote. it's so funny. i just recently got her a laser pointer and she LOVES that thing! i've never seen a dogs tail wag sooooo fast!!:D she's obsessed with any kind of playing and will "ask" me to play with her alllll day long! i oblige, as i love this lil baby soooo much!! |
:) anything to do with one of poppys several balls ;) she will play with them all day , love jill n poppy xx :aimeeyork |
Heidi's favorite game is to practice her tricks. She LOVES it, and often in the evening she'll come to me and "ask" me to do her tricks, or offer one looking at me expectantly. Its funny how you can tell what they are wanting. She does the clicker training. She enjoys Hide n Go Seek a lot too. Its funny to peak and see her walking around looking for me and she acts so proud when she finds me. |
Molly likes to play guess what hand her toy is in, she also likes tug, but her fav is races around the coffee table. |
how do you teach them to play hide-n-seek? i just did some spring cleaning/remodeling & want to put all that empty space to use!:p |
Carmel- His favorite game is tuggle-war. He also likes to chase your feet and try to bite it :p If you shuffle your hands in front of him, he will also like to try and bite it. Emma- ONE THING- SQUEAKY toys that mommy makes for her. SHE LOVES THEM. She loves to fetch it (to a point that drives you crazy!). Every time I make a new toy, she will stare and wait for you to finish. Then, she goes crazy over it :D It's SO cute. She often have staring contest with her toys. She wants you to throw it so much that she will start shaking and whining. Together- Emma will entice Carmel to play. She will jump around in her play position. She will also bit Carmel's neck to try and get him to play with her. I love it! I adore them SO MUCH! |
Tibbe loves hide and seek but he goes and hides his chewbone in the living room for me to come find it. He loves all kinds of tugoway, fetch, seek, playing with toys but his favorite thing to do with me is train. He does lots of tricks and loves to do those over and over and over. By the end of a training session with so much jumping and rolling over repeatedly, etc., he's pretty tired. Plus, I throw a treat across the floor, he runs after it, finds it and returns for another. Over and over. That tires him out, too if enough repetitions. He's practically indefatigable though. |
Me and My Mitsi play chase. She tags Me and I chase Her around under Our tables and such or Me and My Fiance take a tennis ball and kinda play monekey in the middle with Herwhich tires Mittles out pretty quick. |
So many people here listed fetch and this came to mind, I should say I'd honestly be a little concerned over safety with a dog being unsupervised with this, but I'm sure some safety measures could be taken...this guy built this himself and doesn't seem to sell them that I can find...this is just such a kewl idea to me though for the never ending game of fetch, my arm gets tired after awhile with three here. Self entertainment at it's best and obviously a little training to get Jerry or any dog to do this themselves. |
Hide and seek!!! We also play a LOT of fetch inside, AprilLove especially loves it. Small training sessions too  They also love to place, but I never chase them, only have them chase mommy :) |
Sometimes I take a papertowel tube and cut it in half. (Toilet paper tube would do.) I stuff a rubber ball in one end, put in a treat and then block the other end with a small stuffed toy. Copper loves to get the treat out. If the paper tube gets torn up in the process, that is part of the fun. :) |
