Is $5000.00 to much for a pure breed Yorkie?
 
My neighbor wants to buy a Yorkie, she said that she found one and it cost $5000.00. I told her that I thought it was too much. So I suggested that she takes a look at YorkieTalk and check the web-sites breeder's list first before buy this yorkie. Do you think she is paying to much?

Yes I think thats too much. The most I have paid for a yorkie is $1200. She could get a biewer for that amount of money

Yes I do. Have her check YTCA's list of breeders and have her contact one of them or at the very least ask questions and see what other people say about spending $5000 for I assume a pet.

Where I live a female is around 2000,00. I guess if you had a very high quality show dog it would be higher priced but that seems too high to me.

:) Biewers don't cost that much either. You should get two for that price.

You will see breeders that are simply breeding for a living sell their dogs at that price and they are not breeding to better the breed, they are simply breeding for greed. Show breeders who are breeding to better the breed do not charge that much for a pup unless it is a Champion etc.
There are many wonderful breeders to choose from.
I would suggest giving her this link www.ytca.org and search breeders on that site. Also I have seen some wonderful breeders on this site.
tell them to take their time and really research this because they are adding a family member and should want it to come from a responsible loving breeder and not a breeder of greed.

Honestly, yes... but I've done it. I think if she takes her time and looks around she will find exactly what she's looking for without paying that much. I found a gorgeous tiny little champion girl for $2,000 from a reputable breeder. I didn't end up getting her because I'm already at my limit with what I can handle right now. They are out there though and for $5,000 she could get more than one ;)

Please realize even show breeders will have pets available. Not all dogs can or will make it for show.
So don't let the fact that she isn't looking for show stop you/her from inquiring with show breeders.

That's far too much and WHY so many yorkies are being stolen from people - as long as these people 9breeders) get these kinds of prices - we'll just see more people breeding for money and more yorkies being kidnapped and re-sold. That's a very high price
