Sad Trucker Story

Oh, that's so sad I'm so sorry for him You'd think that whoever transported the dog to the shelter would have made it clear that the owner was hospitalized

I think truckers are awesome, it's a hard job and they tend to get stereotyped as dumb hillbillies and such If it weren't for them, we'd all starve to death and the economy would grind to a halt. So bless your husband for providing a very valuable service to all of us So y'all dress however you like, being comfortable is a top priority for me, so I can't imagine driving a big rig all day long dressed to the nine's

I got the email address for OOIDA it is ooida@ooida.com Now I do not know much of the details on where they were or anything .. I am not even sure I asked. Nor am I sure writing to them is the right place to start but it is a place What I am saying in my letter is basically that it has come to my attention of a wreck and how the drivers baby was lost due to ingnorance and please lets help correct this.

Thinking about writing to this other group not sure what they were called but they were fighting against tired drivers... maybe your dad would know ?

this is off topic but will give a laugh for a sec.. one night I decided to drive in my Tshirt and undies ... and I got pulled over and the cop told me to get out I tried to explain to him it was not a good idea but he didn't listen he opened the door and saw the problem with both of us red in the face he just you know just go on ... i stopped you because there was a light out on the trailer but you are in no shape to fix it.

ROTFLMAO you learned the hard way to!!!!

I can ask him but i doubt he would he has been off the road for about 20 years now and on top of that he had a major stroke over 13 years ago that left him with not such a good memory I am going to ask the truckers i know though and see what i can find out there has to be a way we can do something so that this never happens again.

Another thing I learned real quick is not to try to shave your legs when hubby is driving ... gets a bit painful

he probably would not remember. I have to take morphine for my pain and I get really foggy and forgetful or else I could think of more places to hit.

You know I am not to sure they were not near Indy ....

For some reason Indy is in my mind but could be wrong. I know it was at night and she lost control of the truck on ice and it flipped.

I am so very sorry for so many things here..... for your accident that has prevented you from truckin', for the accident that insured your friends, and my heart is just breaking for their little friend who was lost.

I sincerely hope that someone comes up with an idea to help. Maybe even a simple window sticker that says "Please Save My Dog" with a name and description of the dog and a phone number to call. At least that way someone could coordinate a rescue effort.

A sticker is an excellent idea. We have stickers for our homes in case of a fire, why not one for our vehicles. A tiny furbaby could easily get overlooked in wreakage if it were injured. I have a truckdriver friend that looks like something out of Deliverance (long black hair, long black beard, beer belly, very unkempt) but is the sweetest, gentlest, warmest, caring person I've ever known and the last guy you would expect to be traveling with a little dauschund named Two Bit Whore (2 Bit for short) and it would kill him if anything ever happened to 2 Bit. I truely think a window sticker would be the perfect solution for any vehicle. Maybe with a phone number to a central site with any information needed to see that the furbaby would rescued and sent to a safe location. It would have to be set up so that no babies could get stolen.

I'm so sorry about your friends. That never should have happened. My heart goes out to them.

I am heartbroken to hear about your friends. I can't imagine their pain.

It sounds like several balls were dropped here. I would find out where the accident occurred and contact the media in that area -- because their story needs to be told, to draw attn to this problem. The police messed up, the trucking company and the shelter. Perhaps if the story is told, this will help with making some changes in the industry.

That ticks me off. I'm with another poster who said that whoever transported the pet to the shelter should have advised them that there WAS an owner who was hospitalized. I'd be all over that shelter. And for that matter why didn't one of their family member go pick up the dog?

I feel so bad for the dog and your friends I used to have a Cavalier also..i hope something is done about it. That's not right that they put her to sleep! btw i never have looked down on truckers.

Well I am not a good friend as I have yet to call them ! I really do not know what to say to them.

I did get some info on it. The wreck was week ago Wed and was on I80 in NE. Lacy was gone by friday. The family was in OK and was not EVEN notified of the wreck for 3 days... now remember I am getting this info 3rd hand and from a trucker ... even though that is my trade Max's Mom can tell you a trucker can get a story bigger than it was even though we are all dear friends. Ok the family did not think about Lacy until last Sunday and could not get any info on her until Mon. If I know Paul the issue will not drop and after the shock wears off I can imagine all you know what is going to break lose. I read some of the suggestions here and they are all great. As for the stickers on our trucks we have them but the stickers did not save Lacy as some idiot just did not care. I like the getting the story to the news and did pass this on to my trucking friends. So come Monday Morning there will be calls made.

You know the Hunt Corp transports all those poor babies in Semis I wonder what happens to those babies when something goes wrong ?

Lacy was not microchiped so mommies and daddies MICROCHIP that baby.. I am wondering if that would have saved Lacy
