Is my puppy full Yorkie?! Help! 4 Attachment(s) I feel so perplexed. After thinking about what kind of pup I'd want for over a year, I knew I wanted a yorkie when the time was right. My boyfriend and I got our puppy late December from this older couple who had a litter of 4 puppies. They said that it was their dog's first and last time having babies so they're not breeders, but I think they said their daughter was. Anywhoo, their ad said the pups were yorkies and didn't mention that they were mixed. They also told me they were AKC reg but wouldn't give out papers because they didn't want breeders. In retrospect, I should have asked to see the papers but we simply didn't know better - that, and they really seemed sincere and I trusted that. When I took Jamie to the vet yesterday, I saw another yorkie pup there and saw just how different he looked to him. I asked the doc as well, and he didn't think he was full either. I'm so confused and upset - we spent a good deal on him as well. His face nor his body isn't as square and taut, and I was told his ears stand up too much to be a yorkie. Either way, I love this pup, but if he is mixed, I feel like I should know with what. Here's a few pictures I just took of him, we'd really appreciate your input and what you make of all this. Thanks! |
you didnt see the parents? maybe chihuahua also but someon else maybe know alot more than me |
Yorkies ear stand up straight (or are suppossed to) so that is normal and desired. There are a lot of variations on the look of yorkies, so really, they don't all look "alike" anyway. As far as papers go, they could have registered with akc as limited, so they either didn't know better or lied to you about that. She is darling and as long as you are happy with her, it shouldn't really matter. I do understand paying for something and not getting what you paid for though. |
He looks like a yorkie to me...but you never know. Honestly, yorkies are so overbred now that most don't meet the standard and are hard to recognize as yorkies. My baby has a coarser coat than she should and it grows very slow. I wouldn't trade her for the world though. I'll be much more careful in the future though to make sure I get a yorkie that meets the standard. Whether he's purebred or not, meets the standard or not, he's your baby and all you can do is love him :) |
well said and he does look yorkie! |
All I can say is......He is a cutie! :animal-pa |
I did see the parents briefly, but most of the adult yorkies i've seen have long hair, and the hair was cut fairly shorter than what I'd been seeing, so it was hard for me, (the inexperienced eye!) to tell. When we got him, his face was a little more square than it is now too. I do love him no matter what, though, and you are right~ that is def. what counts in the end. |
Take a look around this site and you will see so many different looks, shapes, sizes...:p Your baby is absolutely adorable.:D |
I think he is beautiful...I think he looks Yorkie to me but others might think differently. Question. Are you selling him? I seen a picture up of him before recently for sale. |
i love how quickly these forums foster replies! you guys are the best, it's heaven sent that i found YT, thanks everyone so much~! i feel better already =) |
btw, i think he looks quite yorkie! let him grow into himself, you might be quite suprised how yorkie he looks down the road. |
Hi Parker! Oh no no, I'm definitely not selling him, my boyfriend and I are too in love with him! =) your yorkie's a cutie though! |

If you want to know what he is, you can do the Wisdom Panel. http://www.wisdompanel.com/ |
Looks yorkie to me too... Joyce |
You totally love him and that is all that matters. And if someone didn't tell you the truth well that is something they will have to face. Enjoy him and don't get upset about thinking he might not be a full yorkie. Believe and let him finish growing up and look at all the different ones we have in YT. They all have there on personalities. And you just have to love them. They are loyal to us, they deserve the best from us. |
look at your avatar, how precious is that....:D |
1 Attachment(s) he reminds me of my boy! He is a chi/yorkie mix! But mine has a 1/2 sister that is full yorkie- and they look a lot alike, too! so it is hard to tell- ask the breeder to give you a limited registration! He is probably full, you saw 2 yories! A lot keep hair shorter for easier care! Of courde I think he is a doll! here's mine;s pic- he's kind of chunky!:) |

long legs There are long yorkies with short legs, short yorkies with long legs, square faces, narrow faces, up ears, floppy ears, every type of yorkie you can imagine on this site alone. He looks like a yorkie with a more narrow face and long legs. He doesn't look like a mix to me, but like labs, if they have yorkie in them it seems to usually be dominant. I wouldn't worry. It's a yorkie. And best of all you love him! |
I don't have an answer but he is adorable! He has a lot of character in that face:p |
He looks full Yorkie to me... He is a cutiepie! I would take him in a heartbeat!:D |
looks mostly yorkie to me! and how could anyone resist those eyes?:aimeeyork |
  Ditto all the other replies! How old is your baby & what is his name? He is adorable and I'm quite certain that the seller was counting on you falling in love with him. After we had our Toto for five minutes, we could've cared less if she grew the size of a St. Bernard and had an extra tail! :p She would have to be pried from our cold, dead fingers ... we love her, "warts & all"!! ;) BTW ... welcome to YT and I hope you & your precious little Yorkie like it here! :) |
you can still get akc papers if their parents are reg the litter owner can check the restriction box if they don't want them used for breeding |
Looks like a chihauhau yorkie mix to me, ears also stand on the chis, but I think it is most definitely a chi yorkie mix. Long hair chi that is You should have insisted to see the papers. |
There ARE all shapes, sizes, and hair types for yorkies, and yes their ears are supposed to stand very erect so he's fine there:p How big were his parents and how old and big is he now? He is a doll and I would say he looks full yorkie to me. He may not have the total look of the yorkie standard, but that doesn't make him any less of a yorkie. I have 3 and they all look different. |
i'm still quite a novice but he doesn't look like a full bred yorkie to me, he looks too long and his face does look yorkie like. He is very cute though. I wish you had ask to take a look at those papers. If he isnt a yorkie, his owners were wrong and misrepresented you. What did the vet say? How old is he? and how much does he weigh, they may give some indication of how far from the yorkie talk he will be - to help you determine whether he is a yorkie or not. I'm sad for you as I am nervous for when I buy by yorkie it seems alot of people have been sold silky terriers as opposed to yorkies and because it is difficult to tell the differences especially when they are babies it is very worringing. once again he is adorable though. Hope you get the answers you deserve |
