Male versus Female Yorkies? Hi everyone! Ive been having a lot of back and forth between deciding whether to get, as my first Yorkie, a male or a female puppy. I've heard tons of different things from different people, but what is everyone's opinions on the issue? What do you think are the major differences/pros/cons of both? Thanks!!:D |
I think that while there are some general differences, a dogs temperament ultimately depends on the dog. Some say that males can be cuddlier than females and that females are more prone to mood swings. It kinda just depends on your personal preference. Good luck! |
I love my boys :-) I've never had a female and I wanted one before I got my first yorkie, but I would NEVER trade my boys for a million girl yorkies. |
Welcome To Yt I Can Only Say No Matter Which One You Get You Will Fall In Love With Him Or Her And Then You Will Get The Opposite.. You Will Want Both In My Opinion... You Cant Just Have 1 I Tried It It Does Not Work Haha!! Hugs |

I have one of both and think they are both sweet. |
Which one is easier to train? |
I got a male Pom first and so decided I wanted a female in a Yorkie. She is the first female I've ever owned. I think each dog has it's own personality so I would spend some time with the dog you're considering before buying. In my personal opinion it is way funner to dress up a female dog if you're interested in that. I'm not sure I agree with the consensus that the males are cuddlier and less aloof. My girl is a real lap warmer and pretty laid back, but has a feisty spirit. Either way you probably can't go wrong. |

thanks to everyone who replied! if anyone else has more to share, please do! |
I have a male yorkie, and I have to say that he is the sweetest and most loving furbaby!! He was potty trained VERY quickly, and I just can't say enough great things about him. He's a total cuddle bug. By the way, he loves to get dressed up. When I take out his sweaters or t-shirts or even harnesses, he goes wild!! I think you have to look at the dog individually though. As someone already suggested, if possible, spend some time with the pups and see which one you prefer. Who knows....You might go there looking at a female, but end up buying a male!! Go with your gut. Pick the dog that you connect with the most, regardless of sex. |
I had a male first, and had behavioral issues... marking, humping, etc. Now I have females and none of those problems! |
my first dog ever (my current) is a female.. I love her to pieces and wouldn't trade her for all the money in the world!! Yes females ARE moody BUT unlike sassylikemom said.. my Kayah (right now in heat) has her favorite *pink* toy that she humps at like crazy:rolleyes: All of my friends have had or have males.. and they are all so sweet.. BUT the one thing that turns me away from getting a male is his "package" sometimes dropping by for a visit.. I dunno.. it just weirdens (if that's even a word) me out.. So ultimately... it's YOUR decision.. Good Luck |
